Alekseev (Born Alekseev Nikita Vladimirovich) is a Ukrainian singer. He is best known for being a semifinalist on Ukraine's version of The Voice, "Voice Of The Country"[1] and for his chart topping song Пьяное солнце (Drunken Sun),which has over 30 million views on YouTube.[2]

Life

Born on May 18, 1993 in Ukraine's capital of Kyiv. When he was one and a half years old his family moved to Chita, two years later his family returned to Kyiv. Alekseev attended Kyiv Specialized School No. 106.[3] Among his childhood music preferences, Alekseev notes the music of Queen (band), Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, George Michael and Justin Timberlake.

At the age of 12, Alekseev became very interested in music and singing and was taught by Konstantin Pona. A few months later he took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, he didn't win, but instead of giving up on singing he started his own band called "Mova".

In addition to singing, he was also interested in playing tennis and soccer. Alekseev graduated from university with a degree in Marketing.[4]

Career

During Voice Of The Country's blind auditions, Ani Lorak turned her chair for Alekseev, but he did not go beyond the 1st live broadcast. As a consolation prize, Ani Lorak helped Alekseev shoot the music video for his debut single "Everything is in Time". But he didn't gain popularity until after he apeared on Voice Of The County:Reload[5] where he covered Iryna Bilyk's "I'm Drowning"[6] and shot a music video[7] for it. The song stayed first for several weeks on the FDR chart.[6] Iryna Bilyk herself positively commented on the cover even invited him to sing at her concert.

In September 2015, Alekseev released Пьяное солнце[8] (Drunken Sun), with lyrics by Vitaly Kurovsky and music by Rusland Quint.[9] The next month, a music video[2] directed by Alan Badoev was shot in which Alekseev kills his alter ego after breaking up with a girl. In late May 2016, he received the RU.TV award for best song.[10] He also received a prestigious YUNA award for Drunken Sun. His hit Drunken Sun gained the status of a Platinum Single on ITunes[11] and was in Shazam's Top 100 World Chart the following week. No less successful were the subsequent singles "Dreams of Shards", "Oceans of Steel" and "Feeling Soul" whos music videos were also directed by Alan Badoev.

On June 29, 2016,[12] Alekseev performed[13] at Miss Ukraine Universe 2016.

In June 2016, Alekseev won Breakthrough Artist of The Year at the Russian MUZ-TV Awards and Breakthrough Artist of The Year at the Ukrainian M1 Music Awards[14] in December 2016. In March 2017, the artist won was awarded many ZD Awards[15] and Top Hit Music Awards[16] in several categories; "Breakthrough Artist of The Year", "Artist of The Year", "Take-Off of The Year", "Most Frequently Played on The Radio" for the track Dunken Sun[17] and "Most Popular Radio Artist".

On February 14, 2017, Valentine's Day, Alekseev started his first All-Ukrainian Tour.[18] The final show took place on the artist's birthday, May 18, at the Oktyabrsky Palace.[19]
