Mudbound is a 2017 period drama film directed by Dee Rees, with a script written by Virgil Williams based on the novel Mudbound by Hillary Jordan. It stars Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke, Jason Mitchell and Mary J. Blige. It premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2017.[1] Its stream on Netflix premieres November 17, 2017.
Premise
A family who have relocated to rural Mississippi find themselves trying to cope with numerous issues, including racism and a relative's return from World War II.

Production
Development on the film was announced on March 21, 2016, with director Dee Rees hired to direct and actors Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke and Jason Mitchell cast in roles.[2] On May 25, singer Mary J. Blige was added to the cast.[3] On May 31, Jonathan Banks and Rob Morgan were cast, and filming began in New Orleans, Louisiana and commenced post production in the UK by July 2016.[4]
Release
Following its Sundance premiere, Mudbound had distribution offers from A24 and Annapurna Pictures.[5] On January 29, 2017, Netflix acquired distribution rights to the film.[6] It is to stream it on Netflix premieres November 17, 2017.
