The Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes (ENBA, or National School of Fine Arts) is the main centre of education and training of artists in the republic of Honduras.

History

Precursors

On 15 April 1878 the first arts school in Honduras, the School of Drawing and Painting. In 1890 it the Academy of Fine arts and of Drawing Applied to the Industrial Arts was founded, directed by Tomás Mur . In 1934, the National Academy of Drawing, was opened under the direction of Carlos Zúñiga Figueroa, and in 1938 the School of Arts and Technology started a section of Artistic Drawing that suggested the creation of the National School of Fine Arts.

The school of Fine arts

The National School of Fine arts (ENBA) was founded in 1940 by the President of the Republic, Tiburcio Carias Andino.

He has given in 1939 a mandate for the creation of theschool to the artists Arturo López Rodezno, Maximiliano Ramírez Euceda, Samuel Salgado and Salvador Posed. The school was situated in the building of arts of the And.N.B.To. 6 street, 2 and 3 avenue, in front of the Park “The Freedom” in Comayagüela, D.C. he students received classes in drawing, painting, and sculpture.

Mission

The ENBA is an educational institution that offers skilled services in the visual arts to formal half level and no formal; with the end to contribute to the development of the plastic Honduran, the appreciate of the art, the national and universal culture.

Vision

The ENBA pretends to be an educational institution leader in the artistic training-visual in all the levels of the National Educational System, promoter at the same time, of the distinct demonstrations of the visual arts and cultural by means of the activities of teaching, investigation and extension. Regarding his politics of cultural growth, academician and of support to the process of education-learning poses to short, average and long term the following put: Concretise a process of reform that define the administrative and academic rule. Establish a mechanism of autogestión financial with the end to strengthen the academic process and cultural extension of the institution. Formulate and promote a proposal of creation of the Career of Visual arts in the degree of Degree with distinct specialitys. Attain the construction of a new building that house the installations of what will be the New National School of Fine arts. And, creation of an interactive didactic Museum of the visual arts.

In 1940, it creates the National School of Fine arts ascribed to the Ministry responsible for public works, Industry and Trade, offering courses and degrees to graduates of the sixth grade in the modalities of: drawing, perspective, painting, sculpture, decoration, ceramic, size in wood and religious sculpture, cursadas these in five years.

In 1953, the School happens to form part of the Ministry of Education. In 1956, it creates the Plan for Bachilleres and Professors of Primary Education awarding the Title of Professor of Drawing and Modelling, same that cursa in two years. This Plan of studies disappears in 1965.

In 1966 it Initiates the Plan of Professor of Plastic Arts for graduates of the Common Cycle of General Culture. This modality substitutes to the one of the Professor of Drawing and Modelling and extends until the year 1975; in this same year, issues the agreement of Legalisation of Titles and Diplomas awarded from 1940.

In 1976 was created by decret National School of Fine arts. In 1976 it Initiates he master plan of Plastic Arts, the one who worked until the year 2005. In 1980 it creates the Bachillerato in Graphic Arts. In 1993, it initiates the Plan for Bachilleres in Plastic Arts, the one who works until the actuality. In the year 2003 creates the Bachillerato in Sciences with Orientation in Plastic Education in the frame of the Transformation of the Normal Schools, substituting in Plan of Teachers in above-mentioned Plastic Arts.

Institutional frame 1940 – 2014

National School of Fine arts, is a public educational institution of artistic training-plastic of the half level, only in his gender and his academic degree. It depends on the Secretary of Education through the Departamental Direction of Francisco Morazán and the direction Distrital No. 9. His currícula is composed by three modalities of study to level diversified:

Academy

The formal academic activity has three programs:
Bachelor In Plastic Arts. This plan of studies pretends to endow to his students of the artistic knowledges theorists and practical that allow them the preparation of the work of art, with regard to that turn into the artists representatives of the plastic national . In addition to forming them like professionals in this field, prepares them to confront the future personal challenges, of participation in the society and to opt to upper studies. Bachelor In Graphic Arts. Teaching in Plastic Arts. Plan of studies that pretends to provide to his students pedagogical knowledges, artistic and scientists to initiate them in the development of necessary competitions in the education of the plastic art, in addition to preparing them to follow upper studies in this field. By means of these modalities of study from the year 1977 until the 2006 has graduate 1,034 pertinent youngsters of the distinct departments of the country. In the modalities of study established in the period of 1957 to 1976 egresó to 154 youngsters, doing a total of 1,188 professionals in this field.

Reforms curriculares specific in the educational training

* Form part of the Jury of the National Prize of Art, Pablo Zelaya. Form part of the Jury of distinct biennial to national level.

* Creation and awarding of Prize ITZAMNA, by a space of six consecutive years. Organisation of three meetings of National and international artist.

* Collaboration in the organisation and setting of the Biennial of the Autonomous National University of Honduras, the Honduran Institute of Inter-American Culture, IHCI and the Anthology of the Plastic Arts.

* Demonstrations in public places of the country of the processes of preparation of the artistic work.

National prize of Art Itzamná

Actuality of the National School of Fine arts

The National School of Fine arts (And. N. B. To.) survive with a small support of institutions and of the government, although his greater contribution to continue existing, bases in the fees paid by students.

Initiated in the anniversary of the 50 years of the School, of 1990 to the 2007, the National School of Fine arts together with the Cultural Centre of Spain in Tegucigalpa and the Office of Culture, Arts and Sports, summoned each 15 November the Anthology of the Plastic and Visual Arts of Honduras for incentivar and document the annual creativity, as well as improve the social projection of the And.N.B.To.
