Sam's Town is the second studio album by Las Vegas-based rock band The Killers. It was released on September 29, 2006 in Ireland, September 30, 2006 in Australia, October 2, 2006 in the UK and October 3, 2006 in the US by Island Records and Lizard King Records. The first single released from the album is "When You Were Young." The second single released will be "Bones"; the music video was directed by Tim Burton and has already been shot. It will feature computer graphics, skeletons, and references to Burton's movies among other things.[1] The album is said to be influenced by the works of Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, among others. Compared to their overall critically well recieved debut Hot Fuss, "Sam's Town" has so far debuted to mostly mixed critical reviews.[2][3]

Fan responses

Fan reactions posted on internet music retaliers such as iTunes have been very mixed, but mostly positive comments twoards the Album. Many fans feel that the Killers have abanadoned the sound that made them famous, while other's believe the sound has changed for the better or not at all.

Trivia

  • The album name, Sam's Town, is a nickname for Las Vegas, the town from which The Killers are all from.
  • The band's lead singer, Brandon Flowers, was quoted as saying that 'Sam's Town' will be "one of the best albums in the past twenty years" in the October 2006 edition of Giant magazine, and "the album that keeps rock & roll afloat" in Entertainment Weekly.
  • The bikini-clad model on the cover of Sam's Town is Felica LaZae.
  • In the week prior to its release, the album was able to be heard in its entirety on "The Leak", part of the MTV website.
