For the 65th edition of the pageant held in January 2017, see Miss Universe 2016.
Australian businessman Troy Barbagallo of Miss Universe Australia organization told the Herald Sun newspaper that he made an offer to IMG for Australia to host the 2017 edition with possible host cities to be either Sydney and Melbourne.[1][2]
On 25 May 2017, the Philippine Department of Tourism stated that the Miss Universe Organization offered to host the pageant again in the Philippines. The country hosted the Miss Universe 2016 pageant. The Miss Universe Organization was accordingly pleased with the Philippines' hosting of the previous pageant claiming it overshadowed the pre-events of the 2017 Super Bowl.[3] On 22 June 2017, the DOT announced that they will officially decline to host the pageant this year.[4]

Curaçao – Nashaira Balentien was appointed Miss Curacao Universe 2017 by Corinne Djaoen-Genaro, the national director of Miss Curacao pageant after this year's edition was not held due to lack of sponsorships. Balentien was crowned Miss Curacao World 2016 but withdrew from the Miss World 2016 pageant citing personal reasons[98].
Greece – Maria Psilou was crowned Star Hellas 2017 at a private casting call organised by Vassilis Prevelakis, the national director of Star Hellas pageant .[99]
Peru – Priscila Howard was appointed Miss Perú 2017 by Jessica Newton, the national director of Miss Perú pageant after this year's edition was not held due undisclosed reasons. Howard was the 1st runner-up at the Miss Perú 2016 pageant.[100]
Replacements
Russia – Ksenia Alexandrova was appointed Miss Universe Russia 2017 by the Miss Russia Organization as a replacement for Polina Popova, the winner of the Miss Russia 2017 pageant, who would compete only at Miss World 2017 due to the conflicting dates of the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants. The winner of the Miss Russia pageant usually participates at both Miss Universe and Miss World pageants. Alexandrova represented Moscow at Miss Russia 2017 and was the 1st runner-up at the pageant.[101]
