Revision as of 03:15, 11 October 2006

This is a list of Wikipedians who, for various reasons, are unfortunately no longer an integral part of our community.

Purpose of this list

The purpose of this list is to provide a reminder to us of those who have left and their reasons for doing so.

Please do not add people to this list who were never an integral part of the community. Most of the people in the list made well over 1,000 edits. Do not add people unless you are certain they have left, and do not add yourself.

  • People who leave a goodbye message on their talk page or elsewhere, and then actually refrain from editing for at least two weeks, are likely to have left permanently and may be added to the list.
  • Wait about a month before listing someone who has simply ceased editing, unless you have some other reason for being certain that they have left.
  • Wikipedians who are considering leaving and those who have very recently left a stress-related goodbye message can be listed at Esperanza's alert page.
  • In most cases, editors who have gradually adopted a pattern of occasional editing interspersed with long breaks should not be listed merely because they are on one of their long breaks.
  • Editors who return are no longer "missing" and can be removed from the list altogether or listed in the "Not really missing" section.
  • Missing Wikipedians should be added to this list by people who knew them well rather than by strangers.
  • If you add your own user name to the list as one of your final edits, your addition might be reverted since it is theoretically impossible for a "missing" Wikipedian to make an edit. You are welcome to add your own name to Esperanza's alert page, but be warned that the Esperanza community will accordingly try to encourage you to stay.

  • The user modified his userpage to "I'm not really active on Wikipedia anymore," with the edit summary of (lalala what's up it's derk :P) on July 14, 2006.

D

  • Dachshund (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit was November 21, 2005.
  • Danakil (talk · contribs · count) - This extraordinary user edited for only one and a half months, from 1 August to 13 September, 2004, yet during that time he amassed 3,009 edits. Many of these were controversial, although he was responsible for the systematic and correct categorization of hundreds of programming languages and other software related articles.
    • An anonymous user, User:201.135.18.50 claimed on December 26, 2005 that, as Danakil, he had returned. However Danakil has not made any edits since September 13, 2004.
  • DanMS (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit December 30, 2005
  • David Justin (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit April 26, 2006. Possibly the most prolific contributor on the topic of drinking. A god (specifically, Bacchus) among men.
  • David91 (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 12 April 2006. See Possibly deceased Wikipedians.
  • Dawud (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 28 January 2006 (i.e. this very post, a self-sign-off.) "My experience has convinced me that the Wikipedia will never be a quality source of information on many of the religious subjects which I edited. Put bluntly, why should I devote time and energy on improving an article, when I know my contributions will probably be overwritten by the ignorant and opinionated? (No doubt others make the same complaint about me--and lacking any serious mechanism for scholarly review and critique, we can never really establish which of us is justified.) Wikipedia's central conceit--that an informed consensus will emerge--just doesn't hold up in practice. For example, take a look at Jesus, and then tell me that this article will ever be anything other than pure crap. Granted, there are many good religion articles out there too, but the bottom line is that Wikipedia is not reliable, and cannot be made so."
  • Djinn112 (talk · contribs · count) - Only a handful of edits after June 12, 2005; the last was on April 19, 2006.
  • Dlloyd (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit January 31, 2006
  • DO'Neil (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit July 4, 2006
  • Dori (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 20 March 2005. "I've gotten tired of the English Wikipedia. It's gotten so big that I would have to spent most of my time reverting bad edits to pages on my watchlist, and that's not fun. I'll probably be back, but not until a stable branch is launched."
  • Doron (talk · contribs · count) - Contributed since August 2004. Last edit January 11, 2006; stated on User page "Took some time off."
  • Dsmdgold (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 13, 2006.

  • OmegaWikipedia (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit November 27, 2005.
  • OneGuy (talk · contribs · count) - last edit was on February 27, 2005.
  • Optim (talk · contribs · count): Administrator and Bureaucrat. Missed since 19:00 PM (UTC), March 6, 2004. Optim came to Wikipedia in 2003 because he wanted to help with the creation of free educational material. He started 115 new articles and contributed more than 19 photos he took using his digital camera. He decided to leave because he felt fed up with some particular Wikipedians. He wishes to everyone Good Luck and PEACE PROFOUND. Optim 19:08, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • He blocked himself for a period of one year. We'll be very lucky to have him back, whenever he decides its worth it. Like all of us, he has a lot of things to do, and when he tallied up the stresses and satisfactions... The stress-o-meter was a multiple of the satisfaction meter :( Let's try to make this profoundly beneficial contributor feel as welcome and happy as possible, if and when he returns. • Oven_Fresh (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 17 Aug 2005. His account made edits on June 4, 2006.

  • Vancouverguy (talk · contribs · count) - "I think I've officially "disappeared" now. You can call me a "missing Wikipedian" although I might edit anonymously." Vancouverguy was previously absent from Wikipedia in February 2004. He edited a bit in October 2005 and has not posted since.
  • VeryVerily (talk · contribs · count) - Banned at one point in 2004 for edit warring, he returned for a few months in 2005. On December 27, 2005 he started an appeal at requests for arbitration to "clear his name" from his previous block. He has not edited since February 28, 2006.
  • VivaEmilyDavies (talk · contribs · count) 4721 edits, last edited December 30th 2005

W

  • WCityMike (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 2, 2006, left a retired notice on his userpage.
  • WHEELER (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit March 25, 2006.
  • Wiglaf (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit December 30, 2005, left a sign on his userpage saying "Good bye forever".
  • Wikiacc (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit July 7, 2006. Left a message on his userpage stating "This user has permanently left Wikipedia." Deleted his userpage on July 23, 2006, but recreated it on the 24th to change 'permanently' to 'indefinitely', possibly suggesting a return in the future.
  • Witkacy (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit September 15, 2005. Disappeared without any notice or indication of reason.
  • WojPob (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit: June 8, 2003
  • Wyss (talk · contribs · count) - Stopped editing regularly after March 28, 2006, but made 52 edits in the month of July, the last on July 27. On August 19 she made edits to her user [12] and talk pages [13] apparently expressing her wish to become involved in Wikitruth. She has made no edits since going over to the dark side.
Made some edits on September 24, plugging her new heroes on her user pages and at Village Pump News.

X

  • Xiong (talk · contribs · count) Last edit, 20:33, 4 April 2006. Officialy left the project around 19 September 2005, leaving a note that he is disappointed with the treatment of his work by vandals.
