Wikipedia:Missing Wikipedians

This is a list of Wikipedians who, for various reasons, are unfortunately no longer an integral part of our community.

Purpose of this list

The purpose of this list is to provide a reminder to us of those who have left and their reasons for doing so.

Please do not add people to this list who were never an integral part of the community. Most of the people in the list made well over 1,000 edits. Do not add people unless you are certain they have left, and do not add yourself.

• People who leave a goodbye message on their talk page or elsewhere, and then actually refrain from editing for at least two weeks, are likely to have left permanently and may be added to the list.
• Wait about a month before listing someone who has simply ceased editing, unless you have some other reason for being certain that they have left.
• Wikipedians who are considering leaving and those who have very recently left a stress-related goodbye message can be listed at Esperanza's alert page.
• In most cases, editors who have gradually adopted a pattern of occasional editing interspersed with long breaks should not be listed merely because they are on one of their long breaks.
• Editors who return are no longer "missing" and can be removed from the list altogether or listed in the "Not really missing" section.
• Missing Wikipedians should be added to this list by people who knew them well rather than by strangers.
• If you add your own user name to the list as one of your final edits, your addition might be reverted since it is theoretically impossible for a "missing" Wikipedian to make an edit. You are welcome to add your own name to Esperanza's alert page, but be warned that the Esperanza community will accordingly try to encourage you to stay.

• ²¹² (talk · contribs · count) - Missing since 2003 October 24.
• º¡º (talk · contribs · count) aka BigFatBuddha (talk · contribs · count) - Last contribution 4 May 2003. Left comment on Talk page: "I've wandered far afield, and am likely not to return. My illusions were reduced when I found the mailing list, and found how little was thought of me." (Has probably returned as O^O (talk · contribs · count), but what's it to you?)
• 12.144.5.2 (talk · contribs · count) - Louis Epstein, who posted from a fixed IP, left a valedictory address on his user page 2006 January 1.
• 168... (talk · contribs · count) - Blanked user page and was presumed to have left on 2004 March 7 following disputes arising from the handling of "subvandalism" (see e.g. DNA).
• ( (talk · contribs · count) - With one of the shortest names for a Wikipedian, this user had 2,810 edits before vanishing on February 5, 2004.

A

• Abigail-II (talk · contribs · count) - Left 2004 June 12. Blanked talk page and left message on Village Pump, explaining that too many people were deleting material without discussion on talk pages. "I've no interest in working on a system where people break down your work without discussing it on appropriate page."
• AI (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 2005 October 15. Left following an Arbitration Committee case which banned him from Wikipedia.
  • Made a few edits in May and June 2006. His talk page was blanked by Tony Sidaway, who explained AI was banned.
• AlexPlank (talk · contribs · count) - Left initially on June 29, 2004, then returned briefly in May 2006; made 2 edits on July 29, 2006. Since he left, he created Wrong Planet.
• Almafeta (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit on February 23, 2006 (March 5, 2006 on the Interlingua Wikipedia). Stopped editing "due to the political goals of the Wikimedia Foundation", which Almafeta considered to be opposing h** religion and political belief.
• Alren (talk · contribs · count) - One edit on March 24, 2006, but hadn't edited since January 6 before that.
• Android79 (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit March 19, 2006. He made a few edits in August and September of that year.
• Anonymous anonymous (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit September 6, 2006, left a goodbye message on her talkpage.
• Anonymous editor (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit June 19, 2006
• Ankur (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 2005 March 9. Used to make great maps.
• Aranel (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit was on September 1, 2005.
• Ardenn (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 14, 2006.
• Ark30inf (talk · contribs · count) - Left on October 24, 2003 saying "I have found that if you are not here to do battle then nobody will listen to you. Thats not what I am about." He requested de-adminship and the deletion of his user page on 22 February 2004.
• Arundhati_bakshi (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit on August 27, 2006.
• AugPi (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 3, 2006.

• Bcrowell (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 13 March 2006. "Wikipedia was fun for a few years, but at this point I think it's entered a stage where it's just not fun anymore.... I've intentionally munged my password, so I can no longer log in." Apparently reappeared briefly as Bcrowell2 (talk · contribs · count).
• Benc (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 23 December 2004.
• BM (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit May 2, 2005; gave no reason.
• Bmicomp (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit was on December 15, 2005.
• Boothy443 (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit June 2, 2006.
• Bornintheguz (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit October 3, 2005. A very prolific contributor to articles about soccer.
• Brat32 (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 24, 2006; blanked their userpage and replaced it with the message "I'm gone."
• Brossow (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit July 28, 2006. Left a message on his userpage on July 4 declaring he was "taking a self-imposed WikiBreak and will be back when I feel like it. Don't hold your breath...." Made one edit on September 10, 2006.
• Bushytails (talk · contribs · count) - His father died, and he went on wikibreak until "I'm no longer crying all day". Last edit was on November 12, 2005. He came back to make one edit on March 2, 2006, supporting User:Karmafist's RfA, and then two more to (of all things) Strap-on dildo on August 16, 2006.
• Buttered Bread (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 25 December 2005. See Possibly deceased Wikipedians.

C

• Captain Jackson (talk · contribs · count) - From his talk page dated 08 April 2006: "Captain Jackson is far too disgusted with Wikipedia members and administration to continue contributing to this site. He has therefore decided to commite Wikisuicide".
• Carbonite (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit February 11, 2006.
• Camembert (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit February 8, 2006, stated "I don't edit here any more. I don't anticipate editing regularly again."
• CanadianCaesar (talk · contribs · count) - Deleted his userpage and has not edited since September 4, 2006, perhaps due to a conflict on the Administrators notice board.
• Cantus (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit April 23, 2006. Had over 21000 edits until being blocked for a month on that date due to violating a previous ArbCom decision.
• Carmelapple (talk · contribs · count) - Announced they were leaving on August 13, 2006; made 2 further edits on August 18 reiterating this. After a month of absence, the account was blocked on September 21.
• Catamorphism (talk · contribs · count) - Taking an indefinite break from Wikipedia, according to user's userpage.
• Cautious (talk · contribs · count) - Edited only sporadically from September 2005. Last edit May 8, 2006.
• Chameleon (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit December 23, 2005. Also edited as Chamaeleon (talk · contribs · count) and Helpful_Dave (talk · contribs · count).Alpha
• Chan_Han_Xiang (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit was 1 January 2005.
• CheeseLover (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 24 September 2006.
• ChicXulub (talk · contribs · count) - Blanked talk page on 7 September 2004 and hasn't edited since.
• ChrisDJackson (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 21, 2006. Elected as member of Democratic Party.
• Chronographos (talk · contribs · count) - Missing since 14 October 2005. Made one edit to his user page September 6.
• Cje (talk · contribs · count) - Last edited April 25, 2006. Since then, he made 11 edits to several articles. Last edit October 10, 2006.
• CLW (talk · contribs · count) - Last edited 7 April 2006.
• Colin Kimbrell (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 5 May 2006. Left over concerns about the Wikipedia:Reward board, saying, "I'm going on Wikibreak, maybe forever, due to WP:RB. I no longer wish to contribute my labor to the project under these conditions, as I feel that this tremendously misguided proposal deals a critical blow to the credibility of the project...If it dies, I might come back. Otherwise, best of luck, y'all"[1].
• Cortonin (talk · contribs · count) - Missing since shortly after 26 June 2005 six-month ban from certain articles by ArbComm. [2]
• CrazyTalk (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit on 5 November, 2005. Left a departure note on his user page. "Closed up shop. The three months I was a Wikiholic have sucessfully served their purpose (postponing my career change) and have now run their course. I have also arrived at this conclusion: [3]."
• Crotalus horridus (talk · contribs · count) - Having over 3,000 edits, in February 2006 he petitioned the ArbCom committee in the Tony Sidaway RFaR. When Crotalus was put on probation and banned from userboxes, he placed a goodbye notice on his user page.
• Curps (talk · contribs · count) - a most active administrator, has not edited since June 8, 2006, he made a few bot edits until June 25; no further explanation. He will be sorely missed.
  • Declared a long-term vacation on August 1, 2006.
• Cryptic (talk · contribs · count) - Deleted his user page and blocked himself indefinitely on May 30, 2006, later unblocked himself and made a handful of edits to his talk page in early July. Last edit October 10, 2006
• CryptoDerk (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit January 30, 2006

• The user modified his userpage to "I'm not really active on Wikipedia anymore," with the edit summary of (lalala what's up it's derk :P) on July 14, 2006.

D

• Dachshund (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit was November 21, 2005.
• Danakil (talk · contribs · count) - This extraordinary user edited for only one and a half months, from 1 August to 13 September, 2004, yet during that time he amassed 3,009 edits. Many of these were controversial, although he was responsible for the systematic and correct categorization of hundreds of programming languages and other software related articles.
  • An anonymous user, User:201.135.18.50 claimed on December 26, 2005 that, as Danakil, he had returned. However Danakil has not made any edits since September 13, 2004.
• DanMS (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit December 30, 2005
• David Justin (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit April 26, 2006. Possibly the most prolific contributor on the topic of drinking. A god (specifically, Bacchus) among men.
• David91 (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 12 April 2006. See Possibly deceased Wikipedians.
• Dawud (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 28 January 2006 (i.e. this very post, a self-sign-off.) "My experience has convinced me that the Wikipedia will never be a quality source of information on many of the religious subjects which I edited. Put bluntly, why should I devote time and energy on improving an article, when I know my contributions will probably be overwritten by the ignorant and opinionated? (No doubt others make the same complaint about me--and lacking any serious mechanism for scholarly review and critique, we can never really establish which of us is justified.) Wikipedia's central conceit--that an informed consensus will emerge--just doesn't hold up in practice. For example, take a look at Jesus, and then tell me that this article will ever be anything other than pure crap. Granted, there are many good religion articles out there too, but the bottom line is that Wikipedia is not reliable, and cannot be made so."

• Doron (talk · contribs · count) - Contributed since August 2004. Last edit January 11, 2006; stated on User page "Took some time off."
• Dsmdgold (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 13, 2006.

• E Pluribus Anthony (talk · contribs · count) - Massive amount of edits, last one on June 3, 2006.

• Eequor (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit February 16, 2006 in which she left a note at Esperanza that said "I don't expect to come back again."
• Efghij (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit November 17, 2003.
• ElBenevolente (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit January 08, 2006, arbitrary departure occured after acknowledging a user with the {{welcome}} tag. As of April 21 2006, all attempts to contact user in question have been unsuccessful.
• Ellmist (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit June 23, 2006. Only a handful of edits since December 2005.
• Emax (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 18 February, 2005. Disappeared without any notice or indication of reason.
• Encyclopedist (talk · contribs · count) - Once one of Wikipedia's prized editors, Encyclopedist stopped editing regularly after March 13, 2006 and was later indefinitely blocked twice after heavy vandalism against John Reid and his appearances as the "CIyde vandal." He later claimed that "Wikipedia is Fascism" [4] in his final edits on July 31, 2006 and left fury comments on his fourth unsuccesful request for adminship [5]. His final words on his talk page were "history will absolve me, Wikipedia is Fascism."
• Evadb (talk · contribs · count) - Left a goodbye message on his talk page on July 9, 2006, saying he had become discouraged and disillusioned. On July he voted to support the John Brook-Little FA nomination.
• Evilphoenix (talk · contribs · count) - Missing since April 25, 2006.

• Faedra (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 1 January 2005. "This contributor is currently under the impression that Wikipeia is a complete waist of time. (except for a spelling lesson)."
• Fenice (talk · contribs · count) - Left January 18, 2006 after an editwar.
• Fennec (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit June 7, 2006.
• Filiocht (talk · contribs · count) - After falling ill earlier in the year, he declared himself "away indefinitely" on June 6, 2006.
• Finn-Zoltan (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 9, 2006.
• Firebug (talk · contribs · count) - Left due to the Userbox controversy. There is a rather, um, explicit goodbye message on his user page.
• Fonzy (talk · contribs · count) - Retired May 2004: "I don't like change much (which some will probably know or guess why). I prefered Wikipedia more when it was smaller and I felt part of a small community, now Wikipedia has got bigger (which is great) but I dont feel as useful, or as important, I just feel like part of a mob." Made last edit on the 26th of that month.

Made 3 edits on November 9, 2006 to confirm he was the anonymous editor who was instrumental in starting Wikinews.

• Francs2000 (talk · contribs · count) - Left on July 15, 2006, after a lot of stressful things were happening in his life, both on Wikipedia and off.
• FuelWagon (talk · contribs · count) - Had over 6000 edits from April 2 to December 23, 2005 before receiving a six-month ban from the ArbCom, and has not edited since, even after the expiration of his ban.
• Func (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 10 October 2005. "My apologies, I am away from Wikipedia for an extended period of time." Made two edits on April 11, 2006.
• Funnybunny (talk · contribs · count)- Left August 13th, 2006. He has told me by email he had officially quit. He will be missed by many.

G

• Gadykozma (talk · contribs · count) - Stated he was "taking wikivacation, probably permanent" on 22 November 2004. Last edit 21 December 2004.
• GangstaEB (talk · contribs · count) - Left after he was accidently accused of being Willy on Wheels.
• Gary D (talk · contribs · count) - Left a message on February 26, 2005, saying he was "closing up shop";[6] made his last edit the same day.
• Gator1 (talk · contribs · count) - Left April 8, 2006 after harrassment and cyberstalking by a user he indefinitely blocked.
  • He restored a page on July 6, 2006, but has not appeared since.
• Gflores (talk · contribs · count) - Announced an extended wikibreak on April 16, 2006, and left a goodbye message on their user page on June 13.
• Gianfranco (talk · contribs · count) - Disappeared in February 2003 after making thousands of contributions in the English Wikipedia. Edited a little in 2005. Has returned [7]
• GK (talk · contribs · count) - Left on 14 January, 2005 with a note: "It took me way too long to realize the underlying facts about the way the Wikipedia works. In this libertarian anarchy, any process is only as functional as it's most dysfunctional participant. What that means is that in too many areas the inmates are in charge of the asylum."
• Go for it! (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 7 July, 2006.
• Gorrister (talk · contribs · count) Last edit 5 October 2005
• Greyengine5 (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 4 September 2004.
• Graham_Chapman (talk · contribs · count) - On page titles to be deleted on 4 April 2002: "OK, I'm out of here, too many fuckwits and their egos to be bothered with". Made last edit later that day.
• GRider (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit April 27, 2005.
• Gflores (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 13 June, 2006. Left a note on his user page which was originally an extended wikibreak.

• Hajor (talk · contribs · count) - An admin, he stated "It stopped being fun... but it was fun while it lasted. Thanks for the ride" in his last edit on November 22, 2005.
• Hall_Monitor (talk · contribs · count) last edit was March 31, 2006. Oddly enough, the user's last seven articles edited, in reverse-chronological order, spell out the sentence "Goodbye people, I will miss you." This may or may not have been inspired by [8].
• Hapsiainen (talk · contribs · count) has been absent from Wikipedia since December 12, 2005. No further explanation.
• Harry_Potter (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 10 April 2004. Had over 1000 edits, just disappeared.
• Hawstom (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit was to declare an indefinite Wikiholiday on April 10, 2006.
• Hcheney (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 24 October 2005.
• Humansdorpie (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 8 June 2006. Mature, good-humoured editor with special interest in Africa articles. Left in response to legal threats from User: Lightoftheworld.
• Hurricane111 (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 23 April 2006. RC patroller and member of the Canadian law wikiproject, which misses him.

I

• Iam (talk · contribs · count) - Blanked his user and talk pages on August 24, 2005; returned August 3, 2006 to say he was "currently on a permanent wikibreak".
• Imran (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit: 3 November 2004 to say "Note: I am (as of Sept 04) currently inactive on Wikipedia".
• Isis (talk · contribs · count) - In February 2003, got into a legal dispute with another contributor and quit over it.
• Izehar (talk · contribs · count) Last edit January 16, 2006. Made a few user and talk page edits on February 24 of that year.

J

• Jaknouse (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 7, 2006.
• JamesBurns (talk · contribs · count) - Very active AfD participant; last edit 19 August 2005. His user page and his talk page did not give any indication that he was intending to leave the project.

The user appeared on August 4, 2006, to post an indefinate wikibreak template on his space 1.

• Jazz77 (talk · contribs · count) - Stopped editing after August 28, 2004; made a change to his userpage on August 15, 2005, and announced he was coming back on March 26, 2006; however, he has not edited since.
• JCarriker (talk · contribs · count) - Requested de-adminship and announced retirement on September 8, 2006. Made one more edit on September 12, to revert vandalism. Had been on wikibreak since August 29.
• Jedi6 (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit August 2, 2006. On September 23 he left a message at the Star Wars wiki project explaining real life has kept him away.
• Jerryseinfeld (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit July 28, 2006.
• Jesster79 (talk · contribs · count) - Left a message on his userpage on July 2, 2006 saying he was leaving Wikipedia for the time being.
• JHCC (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit May 15, 2006. Left a farewell message on his userpage.
• Jimregan (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 12 February 2005. No longer active around Wikipedia after all and now writes for Linux Gazette(.net)
• John_Fader (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit May 20, 2005 after nearly 5000 edits including regular responses at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Declined an offer to be nominated for admin. His user page and his talk page give no indication that he was intending to leave the project and email contact is not enabled.
• JohnArmagh (talk · contribs · count) - Only a handful of edits since December 29, 2005; the last one was on August 23, 2006.
• JonGwynne (talk · contribs · count) - Left after 26 June 2005 three-month ban by ArbComm. [9]
• Jorge Stolfi (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit March 21, 2006.
• Jose_Ramos (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 23 March 2004; not known why. Now back after a vacation under a new psuedonym, only being disclosed to selected Wikipedians, though.
• Joseph Dwayne (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit May 8, 2006. Known for his humorous vandalism.
• Jwissick (talk · contribs · count) - No edits since July 29, 2006.

• Karmafist (talk · contribs · count) - User appeared and disappeared throughout the summer of 2006 before becoming indefinitely blocked after a series of incidents.
• Katefan0 (talk · contribs · count) - A prolific administrator, she left after Daniel Brandt threatened to inform her employer regarding her work on Wikipedia. See Muddying Sandifer for more details.
• Kelly Martin (talk · contribs · count) - A former arbitrator and very high profile editor, she left on September 21, 2006 after other editors requested she resign her adminship.
• Kevin_Rector (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit January 5, 2006
• Kimiko (talk · contribs · count) - Contributor since summer 2003; blanked her user and talk pages 2005 February 21.
• KittySaturn (talk · contribs · count) - Left a goodbye message on her user page on July 31, 2006 and changed it to Japanese the next day.
• Kokiri (talk · contribs · count) - Blanked user page and talk page on 18 September 2004. Last edit January 14 2006
• KRS (talk · contribs · count) - Inactive since Feb 2005. Made a few sporadic edits since then, last one dating back to Nov 2005.

• Larry_Sanger (talk · contribs · count) (March 2002) - Former Nupedia editor-in-chief, was instrumental in guiding Wikipedia to where it is today. (Letter of resignation). Returns occasionally to edit his own article and to comment on the state of Wikipedia.
• Lifefeed (talk · contribs · count) - Made only a handful of edits after August 2005; his last act was to blank his user and talk pages and replace them with the word "done" on October 10, 2005
• Linuxerist (talk · contribs · count) - Left a message on their userpage announing they would be leaving on August 9, 2006. Last edit August 14.
• Locke Cole (talk · contribs · count) - leader of the winning side in the AUM wars. Last edit on May 16, 2006. Left under "right to vanish" after an arbitration case was filed against him.
• Lommer (talk · contribs · count) see userpage, last edit February 20, 2006
• LordViD (talk · contribs · count) Last edit March 28, 2006

• Mintguy (talk · contribs · count) - last edit: 13 Nov 2004. "It has stopped being fun. The lunatics are taking over the asylum." See his userpage for more information
• MPLX (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit April 28, 2005, left apparently after a conflict at Teach the Controversy.
• Muriel Gottrop (talk · contribs · count) - A former admin, she resigned in April 2004, and three months later declared that she would stop contributing regularly to the English Wikipedia and move to the Portuguese Wikipedia instead. Since then, she has only edited here occasionally up until August 7, 2006, but has edited regularly in the Portuguese Wikipedia up until September 22, 2006.
• MyRedDice (talk · contribs · count) - very few edits since 25 Apr 2005.

• Nabla (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit October 15, 2005 not long after becoming a admin
• Nathanlarson32767 (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit: 26 Jan 2005.
• Nknight (talk · contribs · count) - last edit: 24 Feb 2005 - has decided to leave, see the user page.
• Norm (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 15 March 2005; departed "on wheels".
• Noitall (talk · contribs · count)- last edit October 11th 2005
• Notheruser (talk · contribs · count) left on 17 August 2003 giving no reason, but stating "I'm taking an indefinite break from Wikipedia."

Between January and April 2006, he made more edits, added a vandalism count on his user page and protected his talk page. He came back on May 6, 2006 to update his talk page and has not edited since.

• Endomion (talk · contribs · count) - Very active AfD contributor, vanished after February 25, 2006. Made a couple edits on May 8, and has edited very sporadically since then. Possibly less active due to harrassment.

• Quadell (talk · contribs · count) - left on April 20, 2006 to seek a more meaningful relationship with LiveJournal. Has edited occasionally since then. Returned in August 2006.
• Who (talk · contribs · count) Last edit 8 Aug 2006; I'm buzy with other lifely things.., on trip to Europe. I plan to return soon.
• Kate (talk · contribs · count) - declared an indefinite wikibreak on 9 November 2005 and has edited only occasionally since then.
