Yvonne Cherrie (Monalisa) (born August 19 1981) is a Tanzanian actress, film producer, director and a Radio host[1][2]. In 2010 she won Zanzibar International Film Festival for best Actress award[3]. She has also been nominated for 2011 Nigeria Entertainment Awards for Pan African Actress Of The Year.[4] She is sited as the one of the best actresses and pioneers of Tanzania Movie Industry[5]
Early Life and Education
Monalisa was born August 19,1981 at the national hospital of Tanzania Muhumbili in the family of two children ,Her mother who is also a legend actress is Suzan Lewis (Natasha) and her father is Mr Lewis.She had a her early education at Luanda,Angola where her father was working and later returned back to Tanzania and she started her primary education at Muungano Primary School in Temeke,Dar Es Salaam and she had secondary education at Zanaki Girls High School before heading to Tanzania Public Service College where she studied secretarial studies,In 2002 she joined British Council Tanzania for Pre Advance level to study English language after that she joined Wilnag Media Training College from Nairobi,Kenya where she graduated with Diploma in Mass Communication
Career
- Yvonne began acting in Kenya and Tanzania professionally around the age of 16,the prospect of becoming an actress was always her dream.
- Her 1998 powerful performance as a young lady struggling to reconcile her life with her multiple lovers, in the acclaimed series Mambo Hayo where she got her nickname “Monalisa”[6]
- In 2002 Monalisa made her first feature film debut in the film called Girlfriend where she played as Tumpale a TID'S girlfriend Tumpale who is forced to turn her life around after being kicked out by her dad for seducing the maid against their deals.She then played many movies includes Sabrina (2003),Dilemma(2004),She Is My Sister(2006),Kwa Heshima Ya Penzi ,Binti Nusa and Network.One of her notable performances is from Black Sunday that earned her Best Actress awards from 2010 Zanzibar International Film Festival[7] and nomination for Pan African Actress of The year 2011 Nigeria Entertainment Awards[8].
- She is also a director,she has directed number of films such as Binti Nusa ,Kaburi Moja,Chanzo Ni Mama and Where Is God.
