Alexander Emerick Jones (born February 11, 1974) is an American radio host, conspiracy theorist,[1] and filmmaker. He is best known for questioning the standard accounts of the September 11th terrorist attacks,[2] his filming of the opening ceremony of an annual gathering at the Bohemian Grove,[3] and his regular bulletins on the "New World Order". Jones claims to spend at least 4 to 5 hours a day contemplating how to defeat the "New World Order".[4]
Views
Alex Jones claims that certain elements of the United States Government are intent on weakening the United States and its sovereignty. These elements, he believes, are "paid off" in an effort to shift the balance of power toward the European continent,[5] which is in turn under the control of the World Bank, beyond the scope of nation states.[6] Jones refers to the World Bank and their "minions" as Globalist forces, military industrial complex or the Illuminati.[7]
Career
Originally from Rockwall, Texas (a suburb of Dallas), Jones began his career in Austin with a live call-in format cable access television program. In 1996, Jones switched format to KJFK, hosting a show named The Final Edition.[8] In 1997, he released his first documentary film, America Destroyed By Design. In 1999, he won that year's "Best of Austin" poll as radio host, voted by Austin Chronicle readers. Later that year, he was fired from KJFK-FM. According to the station's operations manager Jones was fired because his viewpoints made the show hard to sell to advertisers and he refused to broaden his topics. Jones argued:"It was purely political, and it came down from on high," and, "I was told 11 weeks ago to lay off Clinton, to lay off all these politicians, to not talk about rebuilding the church, to stop bashing the Marines, A to Z."[8] Alex started working for Republic Radio with John Stadtmiller and his shows were broadcasted on shortwave as far back as 1997 as "The Alex Jones Show". "Republic" was bought and became GCN and Stadtmiller later split to form Republic Broadcasting in spring of 2004. Jones is still on WWCR Nashville shortwave and www.GCNlive.com as of late 2006. As well as his Austin access TV show. Jones later started a new show InfoWars which is broadcast via Internet radio through the Genesis Communications Network and on public access television in Austin.[9]
In 2000, Jones and an assistant infiltrated the annual gathering of the Bohemian Club. In June 2001, Jones launched Prisonplanet.com. On July 25, 2001, Jones predicted that an imminent and large attack was going to be directed against the United States. Jones also predicted that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) might blame the attack on their asset Osama Bin Laden.[10] He urged listeners on his radio show, and viewers on his cable access television program to call the White House switchboard.
In July 1,2002, Jones started the Save The Bill of Rights Campaign to repeal the Patriot Act.[11] Further in 2002, Jones released 9-11: The Road to Tyranny. In 2005, he released another film, Martial Law: 9/11 Rise of the Police State.
On March 20, 2006, he had Charlie Sheen as a guest on his talk show. The interview received mainstream media coverage and commentary by CNN Showbiz Tonight, Fox News' Hannity & Colmes and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Al-Jazeera stated that it "provoked a media storm."[12]
On June 8, 2006, Jones was stopped and detained at the Canadian border while on his way to cover a meeting of the Bilderberg group in Ottawa.[13] On June 24-25, 2006, Jones organized the "9/11 + The Neo-Con Agenda Symposium" in Los Angeles, California.[14] Charlie Sheen addressed the audience and introduced Jones.[15]
On August 10, 2006, Alex Jones predicted "a massive staged false flag terror attack, blamed on Hezbollah or Al-Qaeda, that will light the blue touch paper for World War Three...before the end of October unless a gargantuan effort to prevent it is launched."[16] On August 16, 2006, Fox News reported on his warning and mentioned his pre-9/11 warning. Jones commended the attention and proclaimed that the new awareness this causes might hopefully have the effect of the staged attacks not taking place.[17]
Websites
Jones runs an extensive network of websites. His main site is infowars.com. In April 2004, Jones debuted prisonplanet.tv. He offers free access to all his documentary films, radio interview archives, clips from his cable access television show and access to digital versions of books he has written. His affiliates run infowars.net and infowarsnetwork.com, a hosting service. Another site in Jones' Internet arsenal is jonesreport.com (a take off of the Drudge Report).
Videos
Jones has produced a series of videos about what he believes is the emergence of a totalitarian world government, the erosion the United States national sovereignty and its civil liberties, the misuse of government power, corporate deception, and cohesion between disparate power structures. He allows his movies to be to freely distributed on VHS and DVD, as well as via the Internet.
