The Honda Civic Si is a sport compact version of the compact car Honda Civic built by the Japanese automaker Honda
1986-1987
The 3rd gen Civic Si was released, geared toward those who wanted the performance of the CRX Si but needed a four-seat vehicle. Other perks for the Civic Si hatchback included a removable glass sunroof, a full-width taillight panel and color-keyed front airdam and roof spoiler.
1988-91
The 4th gen civic si shared a chassis with the Honda CRX and sported a 108hp engine, weighing in a 2286lb it pulled a factory 0-60 of 8.7 seconds (http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html)
1992-95
The 1992 Civic Si sported 125 hp, was very light and managed to go 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds (http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html)
1999-00
Its 1999 model revolutionised the Compact Performance car market with its excellent value as well as performance, offering 160 horsepower and 111 foot-pounds of torque in a car that weighed roughly 2600 lb, which made it extremely quick and agile. The car was discontinued after 2000
2002-05
In 2002, the new Civic Si came back as a hatchback again, this time with a new 2.0 liter 160 horsepower i-VTEC engine which also produced 132 foot-pounds of torque. This motor was designated the K20A3. Unfortunately, having lost its dual wishbone suspension to MacPherson struts, the new car's handling took a hit, not being able to corner as famously as the Civics had in the past. Many were also sad to see the new Si get the less powerful of the newly released K-series motors. The RSX Type S received a more aggressive version of the 2.0 liter, the K20A2, putting out nearly 200 horsepower.
2006-
Recently, the car has been redesigned for 2006 (along with all other Civic trims), representing significant changes since the previous generation. The new car comes with a 2.0 litre i-VTEC engine that now produces an impressive 197 horsepower and 139 foot-pounds of torque, while also including a 6-speed transmission with limited slip differential, among other performance add-ons and pulled an impressive factory 0-60 at 6.3 (motortrend.com) seconds. For the first time a sedan version will be offered in the Fall of 2006.
