The last Latvian general election were held on October 7 2006. 19 parties were registered.
All the 7 parliamentary parties saved their representation in Parliament with the following results:
- People's Party — 23 MPs
- Zaļo un Zemnieku Savienība — 18 MPS
- New Era Party — 18 MPS
- Harmony Centre — 17 MPs
- Latvia First Party in block with Latvian Way — 10 MPs
- For Fatherland and Freedom — 8 MPs
- For Human Rights in United Latvia — 6 MPs
The governing coalition led by Prime Minister Aigars Kalvītis became the first administration to be re-elected since Latvia regained independence in 1991. (BBC)
