Alex, real name Alexsandro de Souza, (born September 14, 1977 in Curitiba) is a Brazilian football (soccer) attacking midfielder, who is currently playing for Fenerbahçe in Turkey and is formerly known for his role as team captain on the Brazilian National Team. Alex rose to prominence with Palmeiras. He is a skillful left-footed player who is adept at taking free-kicks and corners for his team and is also a good goalscorer, with numerous goals scored for every team he has played for. He is also known for his flashy dribbling and wise on-field decisions. Alex played in 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship and 2000 Olympics football tournament. On April 9, 2006 he scored 2 goals in Turkcell Super League game against Sivasspor. The second one was his 250th career goal. Alex is 175cm tall and weighs 73kg. Alex is widely recognized as one of the most media under-rated brazilian stars playing today.
