Bernard Challandes (born 28 July 1951) is a Swiss professional football coach and former player who is the current scout of Basel.
Coaching career
Clubs
In 1977, after retiring as a player. Challandes became coach of Saint-Imier, except this he was coach of many other teams in Swiss championship as Le Locle, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Yverdon Sports, Young Boys, Servette, Zürich, Sion,[1] Neuchâtel Xamax and Thun. Mostly it became successful during the time it was coach of Zürich and Sion, when he was became champion in the 2008–09 season with Zürich and won the Swiss Cup with Sion in the 2010–11 season. From 2015, he is currently scout of Basel.[2]
National teams
Armenia
On 28 February 2014, Armenia signed with Challandes to a two-year contract to lead the team during UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying after former coach Vardan Minasyan decided in October not to sign a new deal with the Football Federation of Armenia despite encouraging UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying and 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification campaigns.[3] On 27 May 2014, he made his first match as Armenia manager was a 4–3 home win against United Arab Emirates. On 30 March 2015, he resigns after failed to qualify the Armenia in UEFA Euro 2016.[4]
