Other English spellings of the Hokkien pronunciation of this surname include Oei, Ooi, and Uy.[1] The spelling Wee is common in Malaysia, particularly in Melaka; in contrast, the spelling Ooi is more common in Penang, while Oei is more common in Indonesia.[2][3] People with this surname include:
