A cougar attack near North Bend, Washington on May 18, 2018 resulted in the first human death from a cougar attack in the U.S. state of Washington in more than 90 years.^[1] ^[2] The cougar initially attacked then fled. It came back for the fatal attack. ^[3]

Two cyclists were in a wooded area when a cougar bit the head of one man. The other man pulled the cougar off, allowing the injured man to flee and call emergency services.^[4] The other man was later killed and partly eaten by the cougar, which dragged him to its den. The men were in their 30s.^[5]
