The Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA) is a professional American football league in Mexico. In its first season it consisted of four teams, three from Mexico City and one from México,[6] later adding Coahuila and Nuevo León squads as well.

History

Beginnings

The LFA was founded in 2016 with n Football]] (FMFA).[7] It was filed on January 12, 2016 by Head of Government of Mexico City Miguel Ángel Mancera in the east courtyard of the Old City Hall, with Alfredo Castillo, director general of the CONADE and Horacio de la Vega Flores, director of the capital's Institute of Sport.[8]

The first game was played February 21, 2016 and the championship game, called the Tazón México (Mexico Bowl), was on April 10.[9] All matches were played at the Estadio Jesús Martínez "Palillo" of Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City.[10]

Present

On September 28, 2016, the LFA announced two new teams, the Fundidores and the Dinos, which will participate in the 2017 season. The Fundidores will play at the Estadio Tecnológico with Dinos' home ground the Estadio Olímpico Francisco I. Madero.[11]
