WLKT, also known as 104.5 The Cat, is a Top 40 (CHR) station broadcasting in Lexington, Kentucky. It is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc.. It specializes in Pop music, some Rock and some Hip Hop product. 104.5 The Cat's coverage area extends from Louisville, Kentucky in the west to Sandy Hook, Kentucky in the east and from Cincinnati, Ohio in the north to Somerset, Kentucky in the south. It can even be heard on parts of Pine Mountain in Tennessee.
WLKT-FM is the fourth station to be broadcasting HD Radio in Lexington after WUKY, WKQQ, and WBUL-FM.[2]
History
The station signed on the air on July 30, 1992 under ownership of Newport Communications, who also owned WLRS of Louisville. It was purchased by Jacor in 1997. The station ran an Adult Contemporary format until Jacor was purchased by Clear Channel Communications, Inc. (now renamed iHeartMedia on May 4, 1999.[3] After the purchase, the station has been airing the Mainstream Top 40 (CHR) format ever since.
WLKT-HD2
On July 21, 2011 WLKT-HD2 changed its format from New CHR to Urban Contemporary, branded as "Wild 103.9" (also broadcasts on FM translator W280DO 103.9 FM).
