Vanessa Kingori MBE is the current Publishing Director of British Vogue. Prior to that, Kingori was the Publisher of British GQ across all platforms. Kingori has worked for media publishing house, Condé Nast UK for nine years.
Life
Kingori was born in Kenya, initially educated on the Caribbean island of St. Christopher and Nevis (St. Kitts) before moving permanently to London to complete her education. She and her sister were brought up by her mother, a nurse.[1] Kingori went to the Royal Holloway College of the University of London and studied sociology and management. She took several jobs before she entered the media industry. She worked on the London Evening Standard [1] She was then the fashion manager at Esquire magazine.[2]
She worked at Conde Nest for six years before she was appointed to be the publisher of the GQ and GQ Style media brands.[2] She was instrumental in the a digital re-positioning of the brand including the introduction of a highly successful "mobile first" web redesign and the launch of the "GQ Video" channel featuring lucrative branded content as well as editorial content.[1]
Since 2013 Kingori has been consistently featured on the 'Power List', an annual celebration of the most powerful Black Britons. She was recognised with an MBE in 2016.[1] In September 2017 she was appointed to be the Publishing Director at Vogue magazine in London. In July 2018, Vanessa was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from University of the Arts London and was placed onto The Female FTSE Board Report 2018 - 100 Women to Watch list by Cranfield University.
