== Peninsular War == |

Hello AE, |
|||
I inserted a couple of words in the article on the Peninsular War to call attention to the various errors in this paragraph: |
|||
"In the meantime the Allies under estimating the size of Suchet's force and believing that 3,000 more men had left for Lyon and the Suchet with the remnant of his army was crossing the Pyrenees to join Soult in the Atlantic theatre start to redeploy their forces. The best of the British forces in Catalonia were ordered to join Wellinton's army on the river Garonne in France." |
|||
There are multiple spelling errors e.g. |
|||
under estimating -> under-estimating |
|||
Wellinton -> Wellington |
|||
and grammatical errors e.g. |
|||
"the Suchet" --> huh? Should be "Suchet" or "that Suchet" |
|||
" to join Soult in the Atlantic theatre start to redeploy their forces" --> cannot even make out what this should be but it is clearly not well formed. |
|||
I assumed an editor would notice these problems and fix better than I could, perhaps by asking the original author to rewrite with correct spelling/grammar. Could you please escalate or fix these errors? Obviously, I can fix some and even try to fix all but it would be better fixed by the person who wrote it. |

This article and publishing about an ongoing court case is outright malice on Mrs Agnes Kagure
The author is looking to tarnish the name of a successful insurance executive because she was nominated for a political seat, why would wikipedia allow such posts to be published when the author is only quoting news paper articles that have mostly been deleted eg the article from the standard newspaper.
Please pull down this article . It doesn't help to tarnish someones name, please note am only disputing the land fraud section. thank you in advance

Regarding poster on The Love Knot: His Excellency's First Love
Hello, if you google the drama: https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=The+Love+Knot%3A+His+Excellency%27s+First+Love&rlz=1C1CHBF_enSG749SG749&oq=The+Love+Knot%3A+His+Excellency%27s+First+Love&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i61j69i60l2j69i59l2&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8, you can see that the poster is used for this drama (also known as Moonshine and Valentine) and not Beautiful Secret in 2015. I believed that the previous editor has made a mistake.
- Ok thanks for the notification. Happy editing :) ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 09:34, 8 August 2018 (UTC)

yes it is constructive because it tells the truth and shows that owen jones flounced out on a false premise This had a major bearing on Marks subsequent career and showed that his judgement to question was sound

Olaf the White
What evidence do you have that Olaf the White was born in Ireland ? Also the 'putting aside' of Aud by Olaf - where does that information come from? Is it based solely on the notices of Olaf's other marriages and the theories of recent historians. As far as I am aware there is nothing to say she was put aside - do you have evidence of this ?
- What evidence do you have that talking in article is considered appropriate? Use the talk page for discussion. If you believe the information is wrong, then remove it. If you continue excessively adding "notes" to the article, you'll have a nice trip to ANI for your disruptive editing. Yes, I don't have evidence for that. However, the content was not added by me. I don't have the responsibility for it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 10:57, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
changes to Lora (singer) page
Hi, Abel,
I am trying to update Lora (singer) page as I am a representative of her Label Universal Music Romania / MediaPro Music. My changes seem to revert though I have only uploaded a new picture of the artist and some more info about her. Please advice what to do in order to have my updates accepted.
Thank you, Foolsandkings (talk) 12:30, 8 August 2018 (UTC) Marius (foolsandkings)
- @Foolsandkings: Hello. Welcome to Wikipedia. As mentioned in the linked policies in Kpgjhpjm's talk page, we strongly discourage conflict of interest editing. Please follow the instructions there. Also,
Editors with a COI, including paid editors, are expected to disclose it whenever they seek to change an affected article's content. Anyone editing for pay must disclose who is paying them, who the client is, and any other relevant affiliation; this is a requirement of the Wikimedia Foundation. Also, COI editors should not edit affected articles directly, but propose changes on article talk pages instead.
Thanks. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:36, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
I understand. I only wanted to update the picture as the current one is really old. Also some of the info is not incorrectly written and would like to update the biography as the information is several years old. Please advice how I could do this legally. Thank you!
- @Foolsandkings: You can request it in the talk page, specifically Talk:Lora (singer). Remember you have to explain your change clearly and disclose your COI. Thanks ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:54, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Edits to the Beast in Heat
I am not making disruptive edits to the above article. I was clarifying the film as being in the Nazisploitation sub-genre a of the exploitation film. I amended the article as it stated in error the film contained hardcore pornography. It does not. I also made an edit to the film which the director incorporated footage film and listed the film's title. This edits are not vandalism and are intended to help the article. Your comments are threatening and nonconstructive.
- @HorrorProfessor: You didn't provide a reliable source for it. Please refer to your talk page for further explanation. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:46, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Edits to the Beast in Heat
How am I able to find a source for the fact that the film the Beast in Heat does not contain hardcore pornography besides the film itself? You are in fact directly promoting an error on wikipedia when you re-edit the article to include the fact The Beast in Heat contains hardcore pornography.
- @HorrorProfessor: Then unfortunately it cannot be added. All content in Wikipedia must be written based on reliable source and in a neutral point of view, especially genres. Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:52, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
- I've clarified the statement from the book. It says most films contain hardcore sequences, but not specificly this one. I've edited this to match the source. If there are issues with accuracy, I would bring it up on the talk page unless you have a source HorrorProf. Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:56, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Do not need a response but
I notice that any editing of Wikipedia articles now gets dropped from the article and despite what is said about other editors getting so see these edits the fact is that the public only get to see what the original editor wrote - regardless of whether the article is accurate or not. This removes the worth of wikipedia entirely. You are in effect preventing editing.
- I am preventing disruptive editing. If you really want to change to article, then change it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:25, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Your inability to allow editing
What is the point of allowing editing to a wikipedia entry if you block the edits and then claim that a perfectly reasonable questioning of your article constitutes vandalism. You have made statements about history without any supporting evidence, have failed to respond to reasonable and polite questions about your article and instead make threats. You are clearly unable to accept different opinions. I even entered my comments in brackets in order to leave your article unchanged. You article is historically innacurate and your excessive reaction and baseless accusatiomns and threats leave me in little doubt as to your petty-mindedness and throroughly narcisistic character. You are making this little corner of the internet closed to other thoughts. You should be ashamed of yourself hiding behind your feeble pseudomym and pathetic threats
- The article is not mine. No one owns any of the articles here, not even Jimmy Wales (the founder). Other details are explained below. Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:45, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
- As an additional note, if you raise your concerns in the talk page, I will definitely not revert it. It is considered constructive. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:46, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Preventing editing
You stated:-
I am preventing disruptive editing. If you really want to change to article, then change it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:25, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
Yet you block editing - you do not allow anyone to change the article and resort to ridiculous accusations of vandalism. If you don't want your article editing do not place it on a site that allows editing and do not say "change it"
- If you want to make suggestions, use the talk page, not adding huge amounts of "notes" to the article. Also, your "notes" are also visible to the public. Furthermore, not all new edits are reverted, your edits are reverted because they are misplaced, and you came to me complaining that I am the one who "prevents" people from editing. One of the core principles of Wikipedia is assume good faith. We assume that people are helping the project, content added are correct. I assume good faith in you, I know you want to help the project, but in this case your edits (1) did not help the article (a.k.a. "not constructive") since you didn't change any content (2) confused the public, so I have to revert it. If you make constructive changes to the article, I will not revert it and will appreciate that you are really helping the project. Have you ever seen a featured article that has a "note" like yours? Btw, I am not an administrator, I cannot block anyone from editing. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:43, 8 August 2018 (UTC)
reverting edit to Jubail Industrial College
Hi, Abel; You have reverted a recent edit to Jubail Industrial College, citing factual error. Please see Persian Gulf naming dispute ... the term you have changed the name to is not recognized internationally and is, as a matter of fact, factually incorrect. I will respectfully revert your edit. Regards, 86.98.64.43 (talk) 08:45, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
Kathleen Folbigg
I am Kathleen Folbigg's paralegal and I wish to make changes to her wikipedia page. These edits are completely non-controversial and reflect an accurate account of her life and case. I trust that wikipedia wishes to be a reliable source of information, and therefore would ask you please allow me to edit this page. As it currently stands, it is not accurate and conveys a bias message, which yet again I trust Wikipedia does not endorse. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dooey11 (talk • contribs) 09:16, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Ian Swingland
"I have just been informed that any mention of the trial is a breach of the Order and is therefore potentially a contempt of court. I want my entire entry deleted, as I requested in the first place, otherwise Wikipedia is putting me in severe danger and possible legal action against me and you." All this was explained at length in my first message today. Why don't you understand . A Court Order prevents any mention of the trial and anything to do with it.

Whatever I have written is true to my best of knowledge
Dear sir,
The thing that i have edited by adding more information is taken from my unpublished research. i have been staying in Daltonganj since 2012 doing my research in this Palamu language. We have made lots of written, audio and video materials in this language. But Government has not yet recognized this as a language different from Magahi and Bhojpuri. We are on the process to inform government authorities regarding the vitality of this regional language spoken by 3 million people of Garhwah, Palamu and Latehar. Since mu research is not yet published I cannot give any citations. But you can view the status of this language by visiting our website palamu.net/
- @Suraj4palamu: Please read WP:OR.
Wikipedia articles must not contain original research.
(The phrase "original research" (OR) is used on Wikipedia to refer to material—such as facts, allegations, and ideas—for which no reliable, published sources exist.)This includes any analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to reach or imply a conclusion not stated by the sources. To demonstrate that you are not adding OR, you must be able to cite reliable, published sources that are directly related to the topic of the article, and directly support the material being presented.
I have no reason not to revert it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:39, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
Disapproval of links
Just because something seems inappropriate in an encyclopaedia to you this is not the arbiter vide the Franklyn B Paverty page - this page has any number of links within it so your reverting of those links is arbitrary and inconsistent. That is vandalism of the page.
- @Urac Huntmal: No. It is indeed inappropriate in Wikipedia. You complain this to me because you didn't even bother to read the messages (and policies) I've sent to you on your talk page. External links should either be put in the "External links" section or cited using inline citations. Easy to understand, huh? ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:46, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

AE, I was reading this article Adam Brown and I was looking at the reference to see that there is only one reference, but there are a few external links. Because you taught me not to put {{unrefrenced}}
templates on articles with no references but they do have external links what is the right tag to apply for this article? – Yanjipy (talk) 17:57, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yanjipy: If the references covers all the content in the page, then there's no need to tag with unreferenced. If some content is being covered by external links, then Template:No footnotes is what you're looking for. If not, then tag with unreferenced. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:34, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

Help with Licensing in the Commons
Hey AE, as a part of this mentorship, will it be possible for you to give me some guidelines about licensing pictures or logos (that aren't my work) that I upload from the commons because apparently, I'm licensing the articles wrong according to John from Idegon. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 23:18, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
- No input is needed from me here, so there is no reason to ping me. If I leave a message on your talk page, you can also assume I've watchlisted it, so there is no need to ping me there either. Thanks. John from Idegon (talk) 01:22, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yanjipy: I have only uploaded two pictures to Commons, all are my own work. I am not too familiar with the licensing files. You may read Wikipedia:Non-free content, the relevant guideline. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:29, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
- Maybe you do need some input here, Yanjipy. First, the image in question is unequivocally NOT in the public domain. First, the PD template you added is only for use in very limited cases. The state of Florida has the authority to declare its work in the PD, Its highly doubtful they could compel a city to do the same. Second, schools are not units of government at any level. Public school districts and state universities are quasi-governmental corporations. In any case, most of that is overthinking. Just know that school logos are copyrighted. I do not see the image on the website listed on the file where you got that from, or I would do it right as an example for you. So I will attempt to explain, but know that copyright is damn complicated.
- Commons can only accept images that are released (licensed) under CC BY-SA 3.0 or a less restrictive license (like PD).
- There is something called "fair-use" exception to copyright which applies in certain situations to logos. The guideline for using them is cited above by AE.
- Fair-use logos must be uploaded to En.wiki, not commons.
- If you use the upload wizard, it is relatively easy. The only tricky part is the fair use rationale, which you can just copy from another logo file. File:Miramar High School crest.jpg would be a good one to copy.
- If you have any questions on copyright, leave me a message. Either myself, or one of our resident experts on copyright, Marchjuly, will answer. I was a professional photographer for many years, so I have a fair working knowledge of all the intricacies. John from Idegon (talk) 02:50, 11 August 2018 (UTC)

How to Deal with these Types of Articles and their Creators.
Hello AE, I've been working on WikiProject Swimming and I've been practicing my tagging skills with Twinkle. I keep finding these biographies of swimmers created by User: Lugnuts and basically they all look like this. And there's something like a few hundred of them. So, I did the appropriate thing (I believe) and tagged them with a {{one source}}
tag. Apparently, the creator of all these articles, Lugnuts went ahead and deleted all my edits. I didn't know what to do, so I contacted the user and asked them why they deleted my edits and if I did something wrong... he never responded so I'm here to ask you. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 22:57, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yanjipy: One source is NOT used in very very short articles. In your case, since the article is very short, there are too little context, so one source is enough to cover all of them. Therefore, tagging them with one source is inappropriate. Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 00:52, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, I see so would there be any appropriate tag for an article like this? Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 01:10, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

How to Start Fighting Vandalism
Hi AE, I would like to start fighting vandalism and I wanted to know where I should start. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 01:17, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yanjipy: You may download Huggle. You can see patrol recent changes easier than using Wikipedia’s recent change feed since you can directly see the diff. However, in order to “use” Huggle, you need to have rollback flag which you don’t have now, but you can still use read-only mode. After you spot a unconstructive edit, you can open the browser and revert it. After some time, you may request rollback right here so you can actually use it, but such tool should be used in caution since you can make tons of edits in a minute. Huggle Help
Hello AE, I've recently installed Huggle on my Mac and I'm having some issues. First of all, there is so much going on on the screen in front of you you get kind of lost. Also for some reason the Queue tab where it presented the live edits got deleted and I'm not sure how to get it back. Could you please explain what all the tabs are and their functions, while also telling me how to retrieve my Queue tab back? And on another note, for some reason I cannot connect to the Huggle IRC channel... it says I'm blocked, and I've never even connected to that channel before. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 20:45, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yanjipy: Go to Huggle preferences (Command + ,) -> Interface -> Restore Layout. Also, make sure you check all the boxes in here. Regarding the IRC, it's not necessary since it's only a chat, people (including me) seldom use it although I can connect to it. You can basically ignore anything else besides the queue and the diff. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 00:38, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

When Should I Apply for Extensive Rights
Hello AE, I just leveled up to an extended confirmed user and I have been reading the user group guidelines. I see that there are some other groups and permissions that you could request for. What would be the first (recommended) group that I should request for, and when? (Pardon my typing, I'm typing through my phone). Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 02:21, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Yanjipy, it rather much depends on what you're interested in doing. I see that you've assessing articles and adding content, so NPR might be eventually appropriate. Of course, most of the permissions require a minimum of 500 article space edits, of which you only have ~200, so that cuts off the majority of them (including NPR). Personally, my advice would be to apply for permissions when you need them, not simply because you can; if you cannot demonstrate why you need a perm, you will likely not get it. kamoha undo
Hi Abel, - I noticed you undid a change that I recently made on the Kamoha page which I am watching, I am hoping you can lend me your thinking on this, I am sure to agree with what makes sense. I feel that the top of this page should reflect what the word means, and not the organisation, if you look at the history on this page you will see, that the Hebrew version of this page was not permitted / taken down for breach or WIKIPEDIA rules and a motion to remove this English page has been made years ago, but most likely to the obscurity of this organisation no one even noticed. I think the word kamoha itself should be respected, but the word/page as it stands is debatable whether it stays in WIKIPEDIA or not? The word itself would fit a word dictionary better. The very small and virtually totally unknown organisation promoted on this page should not receive such coverage from WIKIPEDIA it seems to me from my understanding of WIKIPEDIA rules that self promotion or little known companies,individuals or organisations is not permitted. Please let me know your thoughts on this?, as you said we are all human and can make mistakes. All the best, Oracle4.
- Firstly, like any other articles, materials in Wikipedia must be written in sentence case. Secondly, the article seems to be talking about the organisation instead the literal meaning of the word. Thirdly, the content you added is not supported by reliable source. Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 10:01, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Hello
If you're looking for a source, just look at entry level job adverts, the posts by unemployed youth on sites like studentroom or do a search for something like entry level jobs require experience.
If none of those are good enough, then what would be?

Hello, what's wrong with my edit? It wasn't vandalism. Seriously. I implore you to actually read the Donald Trump article, which states in the special counsel section that In August 2018, Trump wrote that Attorney General Jeff Sessions “should stop” the special counsel investigation “right now”; he also referred to it as a “rigged witch hunt”. starship.paint ~ KO 12:40, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Since there is a specification in the paragraph you mentioned, so I think it's redundant to have it in the lead section. Sorry for identifying it as vandalism since most of the time it really is. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 12:44, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- By your logic, nothing should ever be mentioned in the lede, since everything in the lede is (or should be) specified in the body of an article, so it's redundant to have it in the lead section. starship.paint ~ KO 12:46, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

RE: kamoha undo
Hi Abel,
Thanks very much for your reply earlier today.
This was it: "Firstly, like any other articles, materials in Wikipedia must be written in sentence case. Secondly, the article seems to be talking about the organisation instead the literal meaning of the word. Thirdly, the content you added is not supported by reliable source. Regards " I will now look at each of the 3 points you raised:
1 - "sentence case" - Thank you for pointing that out I'll be sure to remember that next time I edit page, always appreciate constructive assistance.
2 - "article seems to be talking about the organisation instead the literal meaning of the word" - Yes I agree with you, so that brings up three points, 1) the question on whether the page should be allowed under Notability rules, I agree with the Notability issues posted on the page, who is kamoha org, have they got any substantial notability in the English world? 2) If point 1 is invalid, then should the Article Title not be renamed to 'The Kamoha Organisation in Israel' or something of that ilk. Or 3 the page remains Titled in current form, but we first discuss the meaning and origin of word, and then point out the organisation.
3 - "The content you added is not supported by reliable source" - Possibly my writing was not correct, however, https://translate.google.com/ will translate kamoha, from Hebrew to English as "like you", and it will also translate the word kamoha from Hawaiian to English as "collection", the wording can be changed as per 1, and firmed up against the evidence supported by translate.google.com
let me know your thoughts to my reply. all the best, Oracle4.
Warning Users with Twinkle.
Hey AE, I found this IP user, 47.8.242.194 through the RTRC tool and most of his edits seemed to be unconstructive, and probably disrupting Wikipedia as well. I undid two of their edits that were evidently wrong but, I'm wondering what I should do as a vandal fighter. Should I report them? Or warn them? Hopefully, this also applies to my further knowledge and experience. By the way, thanks for the response on my Huggle help I actually got it to work again but I find the system quite useless since I can't rollback edits yet. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 17:50, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if I did the right thing but I actually refreshed the IP's contribution page and began to see that he has made some useful and appreciated contributions. I went ahead and welcomed the user for their edits but I'm not so sure if I should have done that. Like you said be bold. Yanjipy (talk) 17:58, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yanjipy: No, the user is not vandalising Wikipedia. So let it go, no need to report. If you came across a vandal, revert their edits and leave them warnings (start from level 1, increase a level everytime). If they have been given the 4th warning and still vandalising, report them to WP:AIV using the way I’ve taught you before (how does it work). Note that long-term abuses MUST be reported and blocked ASAP, you will learn more about them as you deal with vandalism for a longer time. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 00:46, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- Ah, I see so when a user is vandalising you must warn them until they have received four warnings? (When I was reverting today, sometimes I skipped the warnings because I didn't realize it was important) Okay, so today I came accross another IP user who was blanking large content parts of a long Good Article. The user seemed to blank random sections and then reverted them back to normal. I wasn't sure of what exactly this type of behavior would be classified as but I assumed the user was possibly testing the page be he did this a numerous amount of times. I reverted one of his blankings and then Twinkle directed me to the users talk and I gave him a general warning about testing articles. What exactly was he doing and what was the right action to do? Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 01:02, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) When you try to identify vandalism, you should ask yourself a question: is my revert improving Wikipedia? If no, then the user is not vandalising. Vandalism is deliberately making Wikipedia worse. Other problematic edits that does not fall into this category are disruptive edits. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:12, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- Then you should leave edit test warnings. Blanking content and reverting it is editing test. No it’s not fixed that you should report after four warnings, but that will make use that the user is sufficiently warned. If the user still vandalise after the 4th warning, that means the user is deliberately making Wikipedia worse - vandalism, so you can report the user to AIV and they will enjoy their block. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:16, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

When to apply for roll back rights
Hello AE, today really turned out pretty good. I began to start getting the gist of fighting vandalism through RTRC and I have reverted numerous amounts of edits today and gave a few warnings (as I wasn't aware of the importance of warnings before). RTRC for me, is very inconvenient because I have to click the article, then click View History then click on the user's edit diff and prev and then reverted what they did through Twinkle. I've been browsing through Huggle and I'd like to use it hopefully sometime soon. However, in order to use it's reverting features I assume that I need roll back rights as you have said in the past. I read WP: Rollback and I looked at the request for Rollback rights page and looked at the various amounts of application who tried requesting for roll back rights. Now, with my previous block history, in two weeks let's say, if I were to request the roll back rights what do you think my chances of getting approved would be? (If I continue to revert vandalism throughout these days consistently). Cheers. Yanjipy (talk) 01:15, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- You can apply for rollback rights after you have built a meausurable track record of vandalism-fighting edit history which is not problematic. What I mean by "not problematic" is your edit history shows that you have a good understanding of what is vandalism and what is not. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:19, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Shen Xue date format
Hello, I do not understand why you reverted my edit on Shen Xue's page. I changed dates from an American format to the international one, which I thought was correct as she is Chinese. Also, the WP:INTDATE page says "Date formatting should be consistent within an article" – my edit made hers consistent and now it no longer is (the international format is already in place for her daughter's D.O.B. in the "Personal life" section, and all dates in the "List of world record scores set by Shen/Zhao" and "Detailed results" sections). Thank you. —Abbyjjjj96 (talk) 03:40, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Changes to Christ's Hospital Sexual Abuse section.
Dear AE,
Thank you for your message. I was the victim of James Andrew Husband. The indecent assaults that he was convicted on were when I was between 14 and 15, still under the age of consent in the law (and believe me, there was no consent to any of it). The rape that he was convicted of was when I was 16 years old. The were other rapes, but this is the only one that he has actually been convicted for. The age is an important distinction because as I was over 16 (by 9 days) while it was still rape, it was not rape of a minor (i.e. child) in the eyes of the law. I think the whole section on sexual abuse is terrible enough reading and I would not like any legal inaccuracies to be the reason for the school or others to demand that it is removed, or claim that it is incorrect as in all other areas it is 100% accurate. This is why I changed the age from 15 to 16.
The Chaplain, Father Gary Dobbie, knew that Husband was abusing me right from the beginning. He did indeed abuse me later himself, and he has been convicted of indecent assault for that abuse. There was some confusion in the press because I disclosed all the abuse to a totally different chaplain, Kate Powell. She did nothing at all about it and had to answer for her silence in court, where she came up with some waffle about Dobbie being her superior...
AE, if you have put together the section on sexual abuse on the Christ's Hospital web site then you have done an enormous service to me, to the other victims, and to the many ex-pupils who were disgusted to find out what had been going on at their school. I am very, very grateful to you for the time you took to write the section. What you wrote is a totally accurate representation of what was in the press, it's just that what was in the press was inaccurate and I think these corrections are important - let us retain the high ground.
I hope that this is helpful and gives you the information that you need that explains why I made the changes that seem minor but are legally important. Sorry if this message is too long, I have never changed anything on Wikipedia before and I am new to the processes.
Again - if you took the time to put together this section on the Christ's Hospital page then I applaud you and I know many, many others do too. Thank you so much.
Best wishes, Joanthecat (talk) 21:40, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
VS Naipaul article
Hello Abel, I wanted to know why may change to VS Naipaul’s article was removed? The article clearly states that he was born and educated in Trinidad, published books in Trinidad and then moved to the UK in his adult years where he continued to publish. In the UK, we have dual citizenship. He would therefore be Trinidadian-British. He has been and continues to be very well known in Trinidad, in fact, a mascot for Trinidad - and although a very controversial figure, is considered to be Trinidadian. I am not sure why the article wishes to deny his dual citizenship and paint him as simply British especially as the first few lines of the article would be visible to the google public. This is quite misleading and does not capture the cultural context of his viewpoints. Thanks once again. Milashi (talk) 08:06, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- Do you have a source that directly says he's Trinidadian? If yes, then you need to cite it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 08:08, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

- Because you didn't provide reliable sources. Here are reasons why.
- All content in Wikipedia must be verifiable. Any material lacking a reliable source directly supporting it may be removed and will not be restored without an inline citation to a reliable source.
- Citing non-reliable sources such as fan pages or self-published pages which may be biased violates our neutral point of view policy.
- Unsourced or poorly sourced material may damage the reputation of living people or existing groups.
- Wikipedia does not publish original research. Its content is determined by previously published information rather than the beliefs or experiences of its editors. Even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it.
- For information on referencing citations in Wikipedia articles, see Help:Footnotes, Wikipedia:Inline citation, and Help:Referencing for beginners.

What's the difference between reverting edits with Twinkle and having Rollback rights?
Hi AE, I have another question about what the differences are when you are granted rollback rights on WP rather than rollbacking edits in general. I could not find my answer on WP:Rollback rights so I'm here to ask the expert. Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 01:24, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yanjipy: There will be an extra button that appears next to the undo button (in edit history). When you click that button once, then you will rollback all edits by the user. In mobile web view, there will be a notice asking you to confirm such action to prevent fat fingers misclicking the rollback button. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:35, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
- Generally, if you are not granted rollback, you cannot perform rollback. Twinkle’s rollback is actually undo, not real rollback. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 01:40, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks again, AE. Yanjipy (talk) 20:09, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

- @Gurugranthgurupanth: Verifiability is one of the most important policy in Wikipedia. All content here must be supported by reliable sources or they will be removed. Thank you so much AE for your help so far. With your mentorship, I have came a long way from being a "disrupting " editor to a vandal fighter, and an okay contributor. I couldn't have thanked you more. Yanjipy (talk) 20:15, 16 August 2018 (UTC) |
- You're welcome. It's a good start, but there's still a long way to go. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 23:35, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
About lions
You are making a mistake so i let you know. Central African lion, Asiatic lion and West African lion are one subspecies not a group. North African lion (Barbary lion) is Sensu scrito so it should not be redirected to Northen lion. Lion is a species that include two subspecies: P. l. leo and P. l. melanochaita, and this subspecies are not a group! Please redirect it there because I cannot. Central African lion is also redirected there so West African lion must be redirected there. Ask Leo1Pard for more!1 Punetor i Rregullt5 (talk) 05:25, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Please explain your revert of edits on Columbia University
You reverted a series of clean-up edits on the Columbia University page for no given or justified reason. Please provide justification for this reckless editing behavior. Thank you. Hellishscrubber (talk) 09:49, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- No I did not revert "a series" of edits. I just reverted two, and I believe it's a Huggle misfire and have undone it just now. Making one minor mistake is not a reckless editing behavior. Btw, editing warring is a reckless editing behavior. WP:AN3 Regards ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 09:55, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Trump Talk page
My edit is on topic and completely legitimate. To say that others posting that Trump should be classified as a "racist" is legit but me posting that he should be classified as a race realist is disruptive is censorship and bias of the highest order.107.77.221.160 (talk) 10:43, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Deleted edits in XTools?
Hey AE, I've been using XTools alot to view my edit summaries and other article summaries and I find it to be a very useful website. On my page for the website it seems like there is a section called "Deleted Edits". Apparently I have 23 deleted edits but I know that I had many more edits undone before. What are thryand why can't you see them? Yanjipy (talk) 00:55, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Yanjipy: Deleted edits are edits made to a page which was deleted. You cannot view them since you cannot view the edit history or content of a deleted page. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (alt) (talk to me) 01:14, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. Yanjipy (talk) 03:17, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
That wasn't a non-constructive edit.
You should thoroughly check before making an accusation like this. Nishkarsh1 (talk) 08:58, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
Cumulative warnings?
Hey AE, I've been cleaning up vandalism today and I've been warning users (the general vandalism and warning process). I have a question, and that is; Do warnings expire over a certain amount of time (like a month) or are they cumulative throughout their "editing lives"? Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 01:38, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- Warnings do not "expire" after some time. The headings (e.g. August 2018) are just for other's information. If the user still vandalises or removes content without explanation after the 4th warning in the same month or in a short period of time (a week?), then they can be reported at WP:AIV or WP:ANI. Even if the user repents and stop being disruptive, the warnings still exists! However, since the user is willing to change their editing behavior, they may not be further templated. You have been templated (and blocked) a few weeks ago, but you have tried to learn and improve, so I will not template you (perhaps, by now). Instead, I will leave a note written in my own words to remind you sth you've done wrong or "less-than-ideal". ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 05:02, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Creating Userboxes and furthur questions
Hey AE, I have a question about how to create userboxes.Is there also a guideline for that? Also, I see that is user pages, and some tempates they have this thing where you can click [Show] and a drop down appears. You also have it on your user page. What is that and what is the code for that. (Pardon my grammar as I'm currently typing on a tablet). Thanks. Yanjipy (talk) 03:11, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hello. Regarding the design of userboxes, you can visit WP:USERBOX.
- The drop down box is actually a collapse box. You can use
{{collapse top}}
and{{collapse bottom}}
for it. You can put whatever you want in the middle of the two templates. Btw I am taking a short wikibreak until late August, so I may not reply to your messages ASAP. If you have any problems, you may ask Ian.thomson, Mz7, Ritchie333 or any active administrators in this list. They will be happy to lend you a hand. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 05:12, 19 August 2018 (UTC)

Adoption
Hi I am interested in being 'adopted' by you. Apparently, I am a 'rude' and 'uncollaborative' editor (according to an admin) so I have to 'change my ways' otherwise I will be booted from here. I need help in recent change patrolling so that I can refine my skills enough to be granted rollback in a month or in two months (I have studied the Wikipedia space article on rollback for like 3 weeks for hours each day to get ready for if I do get it). In particular, I need help in knowing when to tag an edit as 'good faith' when using Twinkle. I also may need help in CSD and PROD tagging since I tend to be stuck in those areas on occasion. So you can look at my entire edit history and point out specific areas for me to improve in and how to improve in them so I can be trusted with more rights in a month or in a months time. (I try hard to be good). Thank you. JC7V-constructive zone 21:31, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- @JC7V7DC5768: Hi I am fine with adopting you. Incidentally, Yanjipy is also being adopted by me.
- My advice to you for your rudeness is try to keep cool and control your temper. When someone criticises (or reminds) you for what you've done wrong, just take them to your heart, remember and learn from them, apologise if needed (this makes you a better person), work to improve your editing and avoid future issues. Don't let the words frustrate you or you will continue to be rude. Politeness is important here, especially to newcomers.
- Remember that all editors here are build the encyclopedia, so collaboration is needed. RCPing also requires collaboration (e.g. you report vandals and administrators block them). If an admin or experienced editor tells you not to do something, then don't do it. They have more experience and better judgement.
- I usually tag edits adding unsourced content (but factually correct) or other minor WP:MOS mistakes (such as moving the period after the reference which is "wrong" according to WP:CITEFOOT) as good-faith edits. I've looked at your recent edit history, and I think you should read WP:VANDTYPES, WP:PASG and WP:IDT. You need to have a better understanding of what vandalism is or is not.
- I use Huggle mainly and sometimes Twinkle for maintenance. You can see patrol recent changes in Huggle easier than using Wikipedia’s recent change feed since you can directly see the diff. However, in order to "use" Huggle, you need to have rollback flag which you don’t have now, but you can still use read-only mode. After you spot a unconstructive edit, you can open the browser and revert it. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 03:18, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- Ok thanks for the adoption. If you see me doing anything that I shouldn't or anything that isn't correct, don't hesitate to correct me and I will work hard to change it. I've read those links you gave me about vandalism spotting (I also read Mz7's essay about what Vandalism is not). I will also use AGF more. Also I will work on less customized talk page warnings (don't want to go off the deepe end) Happy editing. JC7V-constructive zone 04:52, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- I'll add your page to my watchlist. Maybe you should add mine to your watchlist too? ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 04:58, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- I know you can watch pages, but you can watch editor contributions too?? How would I do that?? JC7V-constructive zone 05:21, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
- You can't. If you really want to stalk other's edits, just visit their contributions :) ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 05:35, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

What would you do with this edit (revert?? let it stand??,) and how would you identify it? (vandalism, non neutral, dispurtive editing, commentary? something else)???

Flag icons in human settlement or administrative subdivision articles

Trying to clean up a page
Sorry I am very new at this, I didn't mean to remove any references as i was just trying to improve the page and remove some less than reliable info. Attempted to clean up the "Natural Remedies" section that was added 00:21, 2 April 2018. I tried to undo it but I couldn't so I revised what I could from what was added. I removed some dubious information including a (broken) link to an outside website selling an "herbal medicine formula" that is claimed as a treatment. Removed the parts that not written properly for an encyclopedia and removed parts giving medical advice. was trying to clean it up following the guidelines on this page

WP
Hey, I just read WP:Don't Be Trigger Happy, and I am now going to go out of my way to be less trigger happy while monitoring RC. But I have a few questions still.
- Q1) If an edit borders on test/vandalism, what should my edit summary be?? And warning be?? (would i summarize the edit as 'test/vandalism' and leave a vandalism warning on their talk page?? or something else?. A vandalism warning mentions using the sand box for test edits.
- Q2) If an editor makes an unsourced change, (ie adds or changes a birth place of a BLP or adds someone that the BLP is dating to an article) but there is nothing in the article that supports the change, should I click on all of the sources in the article to see if one of those websites the source takes me to supports the unsourced info that was added?
for example, editor adds unsourced info into the Joe Schmo article that Joe Schmo has been in a long relationship with Jane Doe,but nothing in the article mentions Jane Doe. Should I click on all of the 15 or 25 references in the article to see if any of those sources mentions Joe Schmo dating Jane Doe?? or should i revert the edit and tell the editor who made the unsourced change to add a reliable source??)
- Q3) I know that 4m warnings are a must in rare times, but in what situations would I start off with a Warning 2 or a Warning 3?? or would I ever need to? My twinkle has a ARV option to report an editor who vandaliszs again after coming off a block in less than 24 hours but wouldn't a 4im warning be more cautious and better than to report them straight to AIV?
- Q4) Can you point me to warnings not listed in the twinkle warning templates??
thank you. JC7V-constructive zone 06:01, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- A1: If it is a editing test, you revert it using the Twinkle [rollback] (blue one, it allows you to leave a custom edit summary) and leave an edit summary like “rv test”. If it is vandalism, you revert it using the [rollback (VANDAL)] (red one, doesn’t allow you to leave custom edit summary). The warnings for vandalism and editing tests are
{{uw-vandalism1}}
and{{uw-test1}}
respectively. WP:IDT is a good essay regarding editing tests by Oshwah, I highly recommend you to read it. - A2: For me, I won’t
wastespend time checking the references and the talk page. I usually revert it and template the user. If it is really supported by reliable sources, then you can “justify” your revert by saying that it lacks inline citations. - A3: Good question. It depends. If the user has a lot of unconstructive edits (simply check their contributions), you can start off with level 2, 3, 4 or even 4im (very occasionally). For example, if a user has 1 unconstructive edit, then level 1 is the most appropriate one. If the user has 4 unconstructive edits and no warnings found on their talk page, you can use level 1, 2 or 3 (I recommend level 2). If the user has 15 unconstructive edits, theoretically they’ve been blocked already, but if surprisingly the user’s talk page has no warnings whatsoever, you can directly issue a 4im vandalism warning template (and ofc, report to AIV). I don't think the "vandalism after recent release of block" is a good option. I never use it. You shouldn't too.
- A4: I can't give you the whole list, but I know
{{uw-sandbox1}}
,{{uw-sandbox2}}
,{{uw-sandbox3}}
and{{uw-sandbox4}}
are not on the list. - ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 06:25, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- If a user vandalises different articles, should we increase the level of warning with each vandal? Knightrises10 (talk) 10:40, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Knightrises10: It doesn't matter which article or page the user is vandalising. If the user makes one unconstructive edit, then you are welcome to revert and warn the user. Of course you need to increase one level after each unconstructive edit. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 11:02, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @JC7V7DC5768: A lot more warnings can be found at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace than the ones listed with Twinkle. However, there are still some missing on that page, such as
{{uw-sandbox1}}
and that whole series. I do think that Category:Standardised user warning templates contains all user warning templates, so you could look through that category for the warning template you need.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 13:43, 22 August 2018 (UTC)- Thanks for your response SkyGazer 512. The ones in Twinkle are just more common and more likely to be used. Or if you are lazy (like me), you can write the message in your own words instead of searching for the templates. Templates are cold and impersonal ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 13:50, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, sometimes it's easier and better to just write in your own words rather than find the template that works perfectly for that situation. For most of the RC patrolling I do, I rarely have to use any warnings that are not in Twinkle already.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:00, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- I use Huggle for RCP. It has a revert-and-warn option which reverts the edit and warn (template) the user with about 20 template options. They are enough for about 99.99% edits. Therefore, I almost never warn users in my own words . Biggest advantage of automated tools.
- I have Wikipedia:Sandbox and Draft:Sandbox on my watchlist, so sometimes I need to use
{{uw-sandbox1}}
. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 14:08, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

The links will be uploaded shortly
Please give time to creators to upload things before quickly placing it for deletion .. it’s s notable page and sources and links will be uploaded, it’s not ok to not give it time and quickly jump to conclusions. Thewikicreator01 (talk) 07:27, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Then better to draft it instead of directly creating it in mainspace. Drafts have a lower risk of being speedy deleted in most circumstances. Once you create an article, it will be immediately visible to the public, and they don't expect to read these kind of articles in Wikipedia. What is the difference
What is the difference between deleting a content page and deleting a Wikipedia page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:B011:800C:1177:ADDF:D157:6681:AEBD (talk) 08:02, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- A content page is a content page while a Wikipedia page usually documents policies, guidelines or essays. I will say no difference since they are both page deletions. However, Wikipedia pages are seldom speedy deleted unless they are vandalism, if you want them to be deleted, you need to go through a deletion discussion first. If content pages (especially new pages) do not meet any of the policies such as WP:N, WP:NPOV, WP:OR or WP:V, they can be deleted immediately without further discussion. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 08:09, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

- As I've said above, that is a Wikipedia page - Wikipedia pages document policies, guidelines or essays. You say the source is not reliable, which is a verifiability issue, and it only applies to content pages. I have also explained the difference between a Wikipedia page and a content page. Please stop asking questions that I've already answered and explained to you. Warning issued. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 09:07, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
Prohibit editing
Why not prohibit all anonymous users from editing Wikipedia pages? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:B011:800C:1177:ADDF:D157:6681:AEBD (talk) 09:22, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Because according to studies in 2004 and 2007, over 80% of edits by anonymous users are not vandalism.[1] As current policy stands, anonymous users have the same rights as registered users to participate in the writing of Wikipedia. However, in your case, your edits are not constructive (as said above), so I reverted it. If you made a constructive edit, then I will not and maybe send you a welcome message. Now you should know what you should know. Fuck off. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 09:29, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

LOL I don't think administrators have the same position as anonymous users. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:B011:800C:1177:ADDF:D157:6681:AEBD (talk) 09:42, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- We are not stereotyping IPs as vandals. I am just saying that your edits are not constructive. If you continue to not fuck off, I will contact an administrator and you will be fucked up. Good luck and goodbye. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 09:45, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
You can contact the administrator or block me but you are still unreasonable and I will report you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:B011:800C:1177:ADDF:D157:6681:AEBD (talk) 09:53, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

May 17 Movement
Hi AE, In the page- May 17 movement , it is a fact that the movement is illegal therefore it can be stated along with prominent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bhavya1333 (talk • contribs) 11:26, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- WP:NPOV. Defining something as illegal or not is a matter of opinion, which may be biased. ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 11:40, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
Wikipidea page for Sindhis - level 4 warning
dear AE, I had made some edits confirmed by DNA reports from 23&me.com in California done in 2016 and 2018, one of my cousins works there. I just cannot share it with any anonymous user in Wiki. We have some European/Middle Eastern looking folk in our family tree and have always wondered about our genetics.
Most sindhis do not share our genes, people fear and condemn what they do not understand and banish my edits as "fake news". It's OK if they/you remove my edits - but calling them unverifiable is short sighted. Ill show my reports if you show me your credentials but not to some random wiki editor.
Meanwhile I risked putting my real name on edits - Sam xxxx. Can I please please request you to remove my name from edits? Let the sindhi people have their day, I want no part of it anymore

- I have requested to hide the revision you mentioned. Yes, feel free the show the reports here. "Geneology DNA surveys 2016-2018" is not a valid reference (I Googled it and found hundreds of reports) since it's not specific, so the content you added is not supported by reliable (and valid) sources (aka not verifiable). ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 13:55, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
Peninsular War
Hello AE,
I inserted a couple of words in the article on the Peninsular War to call attention to the various errors in this paragraph:
"In the meantime the Allies under estimating the size of Suchet's force and believing that 3,000 more men had left for Lyon and the Suchet with the remnant of his army was crossing the Pyrenees to join Soult in the Atlantic theatre start to redeploy their forces. The best of the British forces in Catalonia were ordered to join Wellinton's army on the river Garonne in France."
There are multiple spelling errors e.g. under estimating -> under-estimating Wellinton -> Wellington
and grammatical errors e.g. "the Suchet" --> huh? Should be "Suchet" or "that Suchet" " to join Soult in the Atlantic theatre start to redeploy their forces" --> cannot even make out what this should be but it is clearly not well formed.
I assumed an editor would notice these problems and fix better than I could, perhaps by asking the original author to rewrite with correct spelling/grammar. Could you please escalate or fix these errors? Obviously, I can fix some and even try to fix all but it would be better fixed by the person who wrote it.
