Crüe Fest was a summer 2008 tour by Mötley Crüe, which commenced on July 1, 2008 and concluded on August 31, 2008. It featured Mötley Crüe themselves, Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Sixx:A.M., and Trapt. Crüe Fest was said to be "the Loudest Show on Earth". The tour earned around $40 million and was the most successful, most popular festival of the summer.[1]
Origins
The tour was formulated in January 2008 by Nikki Sixx. Shortly afterwards, the idea was established to involve both bands of whom Sixx was then a member: Mötley Crüe and Sixx:A.M.. Crüe Fest was born: a new touring festival of 'bands that embody the spirit of rock and roll'[2] in the same vein as Ozzfest. Mötley's official website, [1], had promised a special announcement and, on April 15, 2008, the band hosted a press conference, where they announced the tour, premiered their "Saints of Los Angeles" video, and performed "Kickstart My Heart" and "Saints of Los Angeles".[1][2]
"When you've been playing together this long, it comes back pretty quickly," Sixx told Blender on May 29, after the first day of rehearsals. "We've done it all, and it doesn't seem like anything beyond the apocalypse is going to stop us. We must be the evil spawn of Keith Richards. As we breed, we're spreading this indestructible human race. Except for me and Tommy – we got snipped. Nothing like shooting blanks to ensure a good time!… I quit drugs, smoking and drinking, so I'm basically a fucking monk now. I don't even like my coffee that hot. I'm slowly regressing into an emo version of Nikki Sixx. I'm the tree-hugging, Madonna-listening fucking whatever. Although I hate the new Madonna record. When you hit 40 and you're trying to squeeze into those Forever 21 jeans, I don't care how good of shape you're in, you're officially a cougar. But I guess I'd be a cougar, too. I'm still squeezing into tight jeans."[3]
