The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is based in Sheriff Hill in Gateshead, England. It is managed by Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.

History

The hospital was officially opened by the Queen Mother on 18 March 1948.[1]

In 2012, work began on building a new Pathology "Centre for Excellence" which will cover Gateshead, Sunderland & South Tyneside, the funding coming from a £12m grant from the government, which opened in early 2014.

In November 2012, work began on building a new £35m Emergency Care Centre, which opened in February 2015
