Helloworld Travel Limited is an Australian publicly listed travel company that sells travel services across wholesale, retail, inbound, corporate and tour operating within Australia, New Zealand, Asia, South Pacific and across Europe and the United States. Having started out as the Jetset Travelworld Group (JTG), Helloworld Travel Limited was formed from the re-brand which came from the unification of Jetset Travel, Harvey World Travel and Stella Travel Service in 2013.[1]

History

2018

Helloworld Travel Limited completed the acquisition on 1 March of the Magellan Travel Group, taking on 97 members and 129 agencies around Australia.[6]

In March, Helloworld Travel Limited announced its intention to purchase Flight Systems Pty Ltd, a supplier of web-based flight booking technology whom operates the skiddoo.com.au website[7], completing the acquisition in April.[8]

In May, Helloworld Travel announced and completed it's acquisition of a controlling stake in Asia Escape Holidays, giving Helloworld Travel Limited 60.0% of Keygate Holdings Pty Ltd which is the owner of Asia Escape Holidays.[9]

In late September, two of Helloworld Travel Limited's big shareholders sold a stake to fund managers in order to lift the stock's liquidity and to gather market support. It is believed that Ord Minnett sold 7 million shares at $5.50 each, from both the Burnes family and Qantas Airways. It is believed that this move was step towards being included in the ASX-300.[10]

2017

Helloworld Limited announced in early February the acquisition of Cruise Factory, Seven Oceans Cruising, Cruise Abroad and Worldwide Cruise Centres.[11]

In late February, the company announced it would be changing its listed and operating name to Helloworld Travel Limited. This also entailed changes to the retail and business networks, seeing them change to Helloworld Travel and Helloworld Business Travel.[12]

Helloworld Travel Limited announced an agreement to purchase a minority shareholding in the Hunter Travel Group (HTG) based in Newcastle in August[13]

In December, Helloworld Travel Limited shocked the industry with the announcement that it had entered into a heads of agreement to acquire the Magellan Travel Group for the reported figure of $32.5 million.[14]

2016

The merger with AOT Group Limited was completed on 1 February [15], creating a travel distribution business covering both Australian and New Zealand markets. In line with the merger being completed, Andrew Burnes and Cinzia Burnes both took up their appointments within Helloworld Limited.

World Travellers Group joined Helloworld Limited, within the retail network in New Zealand in October.[16]

Helloworld Limited acquired 50% of Mobile Travel Holdings Pty Ltd and Mobile Travel Agents (MTA), a home based travel consultancy service with approximately 350 members within Australia.[17]

2015

CEO Elizabeth Gaines announced her resignation in June, after seven years of service within the company.[18]

Helloworld Limited confirmed in November plans to merge its business with AOT Group Limited.[19] The transaction would see Co-Founder and CEO of AOT Andrew Burnes take over the role of CEO and Managing Director at Helloworld Limited, with Co-Founder and COO of AOT Cinzia Burnes assuming the role of Executive Director.[20]

Plans for the launch of Helloworld Limited’s retail brand helloworld in New Zealand were underway following the purchase of up to 10 stores from Air New Zealand[21], on top of the 90 stores currently operating under Harvey World Travel and United Travel brands.[22]

2014

Rob Gurney stepped down as CEO and Managing Director after a year and a half of service in the role. Elizabeth Gaines was immediately appointed as CEO, having been with the company and it’s predecessors since 2008 as COO, CFO and an Executive Director.[23]

2013

Helloworld was launched in July 2013 [24] under The Jetset Travelworld Group (JTG), as a result of the unification of existing travel brands including Jetset Travel, Harvey World Travel [1] and Stella Travel Service. The launch resulted in an agent network of over 1,000.

In September, Helloworld for Business was launched under JTG, unifying Travelscene Corporate and JTN Business Select.[25]

On Monday 2 December, JTG was re-branded to become Helloworld Limited.[26]
