Current: 2018–19 Serie A season |
The Serie A has 32 teams (6 Liga MX Reserve Teams, 3 Ascenso MX Reserve Teams and 23 Serie A Teams) divided into two groups. For 2018–19 season, it will be one long tournament (playing each other home & away) for 30 matches being played. Top 4 teams from each group at end of season will play for promotion to Ascenso MX and the stadium must met the requirements to promote as well. It was created in the second half of 2008, with the participation and approval of the owners of the teams of Second and Third Division, being next to Serie B part of the Liga Premier.
For the 2018–19 Season, 6 of 18 Teams from Liga MX and 3 Ascenso MX teams (no promotion) will be played to Liga Premier to make youth players to play in the professional league. Also, as of 2017–18 the word 'premier' for 6 of 18 Liga MX teams will not exist, it will replace as the way the teams names the way it is.
