Kiara Alia Advani[3] (born Alia Advani on 31 July 1992) is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Hindi films. After making her acting debut in the 2014 comedy film Fugly, Advani went on to star in several commercial and critically successful films, such as the sports film M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), the Netflix anthology film Lust Stories (2018), and the Telugu political drama Bharat Ane Nenu (2018).
Early life and background
Kiara Advani was born to Usman Advani, a Shia Muslim[4] businessman and Genevieve Jaffrey, a teacher of Punjabi, Scottish, Irish, Portuguese, and Spanish ancestry.[5][6][7] Born as Alia Advani, Advani changed her first name to Kiara prior to the release of her first film, Fugly.[8] The elder of two children, Advani has a younger brother, Mishaal. She is also related to celebrities via her maternal family; specifically, Shaheen Jaffrey and actress Juhi Chawla, who are her aunts. She is in affair with actor Varun Dhawan since 2015. She says that she is a muslim.[2]
Career
Advani made her acting debut in Kabir Sadanand's comedy drama film, Fugly (2014), opposite newcomer Mohit Marwah, Vijender Singh, Arfi Lamba and Jimmy Shergill. The film opened to mixed reviews. For her performance however, Advani received generally positive reviews, with Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama saying she "catches you completely unaware" and has the "combination of looks and talent".[9] Mehul S Thakkar of Deccan Chronicle noted her performance as being "very striking" and said she "shows a lot of promise," along with praising her versatility and range as an actor.[10]
After playing the leading lady in Abbas-Mustan's action film Machine, Advani starred in the Telugu film Bharat Ane Nenu, opposite Mahesh Babu.[11] She later appeared as a shy bride in the Netflix anthology film Lust Stories.[12] Her masturbation scene in the film, using a vibrator, was praised for its frank portrayal of women's sexuality.[13]
Advani will next star opposite Ram Charan in an as-yet-untitled Telugu film.[14] She has committed to feature alongside Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, and Diljit Dosanjh in the romantic comedy Good News, and will feature in a music video alongside Shahid Kapoor.[15][16] She will also play the lead female role opposite Kapoor in a Hindi-language remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy.[17]
