Leo Cornelio (born 14 March 1945) is the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bhopal.

Early life

Bishop Leo Cornelio was born in Kallianpur, in Udupi on 14 March 1945 to Mr. Valerian Cornelio and Mrs. Rose Cornelio. At the age of thirteen he joined Divine Word Missionary (SVD). He completed his minor seminary studies from Rajeshwar Vidhyalaya, Mhow in Madhya Pradesh in 1962. He completed his graduation in Philosophy in 1968 and Theology in 1972 at the Papal Athenaeum, Pune[1]

Education

He obtained his Master's degree in English Literature from the State University. He also completed a course in theology and spirituality from Rome in 1983.[citation needed]

Priesthood

He was ordained a priest on 14 November 1972.[citation needed]

Episcopate

He was appointed Bishop of Khandwa Diocese by Pope John Paul II on 3 June 1999 and Ordained a Bishop on 8 September 1999. He was appointed Archbishop of Bhopal by Pope Benedict XVI on 15 June 2007 and installed on 16 September 2007.[2][3]
