Sharice Davids (born c. 1980) is an American attorney and politician from the state of Kansas. She is the member-elect for the United States House of Representatives for Kansas's 3rd congressional district.
Biography
Davids is a member of the Ho-Chunk nation. She was raised by a single mother who served in the U.S. Army. Davids attended Leavenworth High School, Johnson County Community College, and University of Missouri–Kansas City, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2007.[2][3] In 2006, she began to fight MMA. She tried out for ‘’The Ultimate Fighter’’.[3] She had a 5–1 win–loss record as an amateur and a 1–1 record as a professional.[4]
Davids earned her Juris Doctor from Cornell Law School in 2009.[4] She worked for SNR Denton[5] and on community development for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. In 2016, she was a White House Fellow.[2]
Davids ran for the United States House of Representatives in Kansas's 3rd congressional district against Kevin Yoder.[6][7] On November 6, 2018, Davids won the race for the United States House of Representatives in Kansas's 3rd congressional district against Kevin Yoder.[8][9] This made her the first LGBTQ member of the Kansas congressional delegation, as well as one of the first indigenous women to serve in the United States Congress.[10]
