Taking the leap out of the classic folklore, the story is set in today's time in Kashmir where Laila Majnu have problems relevant to the youth of today. While dealing with their feuding families a passionate love story unravels.<ref>https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8011276/</ref> Laila, shown as a girl living in her own fantasy world always dreaming of a 'special' person in her life, had an encounter with the Qais (Majnu) on a fateful night when she secretly step outside her house to pray in a graveyard for meeting her loved one. Qais along with her friends find her identity and start chasing her till the time when Laila finally gives her mobile number to him. The story steps forward showing romantic intimacy between the leads, against the background of rivalry between their families. News of their romance soon became talk of the town which eventually reaches the family of Laila and her father warns her to stay away from such person of bad reputation. Laila however keen to meet Qais, despite being warned by her father and sister of the consequences, to break the relationship with him. They met one night where they plan to disclose their relationship to their respective families, and Qaiz promises that he will do whatever possible from his side to convince Laila's family. But before this could happen, both of them were caught red handed by Laila's family, after which her father decided to get her married with Ibban, who is a politically motivated person trying to gasp every opportunity to marry Laila in order to take benefit of her father's repute and position. Laila resist the wedding and wait for Qais to convince her father, but he never turned up. On the day of her wedding, Qais reaches her house and ask Laila in front of the whole family to escape the wedding with him, but shockingly Laila refuses saying that she waited for him and is now convinced that people were right about Qais of him being easy going and playing with emotions of people. Qais left heartbroken. Meanwhile after 4 years, Qais father who is a top politician in Kashmir died of cardiac arrest and Qais is shown to be in London. Qais returns back to Kashmir for her father's funeral where he encounters his sister and her husband greedy of the father's property which left him emotionally disturbed. On one casual day, Qais along with his friends see Laila in a cafe and Qais escapes the cafe in order to avoid her. Laila is now married to Ibban, who is a MLA, a typical corrupt and drunkard man, and is living a disturbed life. News reaches Laila about Qais been in town for his father's funeral, and she decides to meet him. With help of Qais's friend, both meet where Qais collapsed after seeing Laila and Laila leaves him with grief of separation. On one day, Ibban got to know about Laila's whereabouts and tried to stop her forcefully not to step outside the house, where Laila warns him to mallign his reputation in the public which can also lead to losing his position. |

Qais, who now shown to lose his personality, is emotionally frustrated because of endless waiting of unification, leaves for Pahalgam till the Iddat, where is seen to completely losing his mind and starts imagining Laila everywhere and due to which is now been called lunatic by villagers, and beaten up. Laila is informed of Qais's condition and she reaches Pahalgam to see Qais been completely out of his mind and constantly reciting 'Laila' , where she understands that Qais has moved out the circle of the world and has reached far ahead of worldy customs. Heartbroken Laila, commited Suicide meanwhile and Qais is now shown to running and chasing Laila where he finally hitted by the gravestone of Laila. The movie ends with both being together enjoying the moment, which is actually their spirits. |

Laila Majnu (Hindustani pronunciation: [lɛːlaː mədʒnuː]) is a 2018 Indian romance film starring Avinash Tiwary and Tripti Dimri. It is presented by Imtiaz Ali and co-produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor and Preety Ali.[1] The film is directed by Sajid Ali.[2][3][4][5]
The trailer was released on 7 August 2018[6][7][8] and the film was theatrically released on 7 September 2018.[9]

The background score of the film is composed by Hitesh Sonik and songs are composed by Niladri Kumar, Joi Barua and Alif. The lyrics are written by Irshad Kamil, Mehmood Gaami and Mohammad Muneem. The first song "Aahista" was released on 9 August 2018.[12] This was followed by the title track "O Meri Laila" on 13 August 2018.[13]
