Leyla Uluhanli is a Russian interior and furniture designer.

Design Career

Interior design

Leyla has started working on residential interiors in early 2000, both on her own commissions and in collaboration with international interior designers[1]. In 2005, she has established her own interior design studio, completing projects in Baku, Moscow, New York, Dubai and other metropolitan cities all over the world since[2].

Furniture design

In 2014, Leyla Uluhanli launched her first furniture collection inspired by Mid-century modern style and the Swinging Sixties[3]. In 2016, Leyla Uluhanli Collection was showcased at the Maison & Objet exhibition in Paris[4], with the second collection previewed during Downtown Design exhibition in Dubai in 2018[5].

“Mosques: Splendors of Islam”

In late 2017, Rizzoli International Publications, Inc. have published the “Mosques: Splendors of Islam” book[6] by Leyla Uluhnali composed over 5 years of research and travel. The book is a collection of original and archival architectural photography of 53 ancient and modern mosques from around the world, accompanied by essays by some of the more prominent scholars on Islamic culture and architecture[7], including Sussan Babaie, Andrew W. Mellon, Walter B. Denny, Heather Ecker, Mohammed Hamdouni Alami, Renata Holod, Philip Jodidio, George Michell, Fatima Quraishi[8]. In June, 2018, the book received the GOLD status in the Foreword Indies Book of the Year Award in the Architecture category[9]. In late 2018, the book was donated to a number of cultural and educational centers in United Arab Emirates, including the Sheik Mohammed Center for Culture and Understanding and the Juma-al-Majid center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center in Abu-Dhabi.
