Raymond Stuart Kelvin CBE (born on 11 December 1955[2] in north London)[3] is the founder and chief executive of the retail clothing retail company Ted Baker.[4][5] He started working in his uncle's menswear shop in Enfield at the age of eleven[6] and founded the Ted Baker brand in 1988,[7] when he opened a shop specialising in men's shirts in Glasgow.[8][9] He has continued to expand his business and Ted Baker is now an internationally-recognised brand.

Early life and education

Kelvin, who is Jewish,[10][11] grew up in Edmonton, north London, and was educated at JFS.[8]

Awards

Kelvin was awarded an honorary doctorate in business administration from the University of Bath in 2007.[12] In the 2011 New Year Honours, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the fashion industry.[8][13]

Personal life

Kelvin's ex-wife is the actress Georgia Slowe. They were married for six years before splitting up in 1999 and divorcing in 2000. They have two sons. Kelvin married his second wife in March 2012.[14]

In his spare time he enjoys fly-fishing.[9][15]

Controversy

A former employee created a petition in 2018 to put an end to stop to his "hugs" and allegedly inappropriate activities with staff, as a result of an unconfirmed lack of support from Ted Baker's HR department.[5][16]
