Template:BTCC season

The 2007 British Touring Car Championship season will be the 50th British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) season.

Changes for 2007

  • In October 2005, Alan Gow announced that the 2007 championship will be contested by cars complying with the FIA's Super 2000 specification regulations.
  • Cars built and raced to BTC-specification will still be permitted to compete, although will be ineligible for outright championship honours.

Drivers/Teams/Cars in BTCC 2007

Since TOCA have not yet begun accepting entries for the 2007 BTCC season there are no confirmed entries as yet. However, a number of teams have expressed their interest in next season:

  • Vauxhall have confirmed that they will continue to enter the series as a manufacturer in 2007, with a new car, built to Super 2000 regulations[1]
  • SEAT have indicated they may be willing to expand their BTCC team to four cars next season. They are planning on reducing their WTCC program to 4-cars, and James Thompson looks likely to make a full time return to the UK series. [2]
  • Eclipse Motorsport with ex-Boyzone star Shane Lynch[3]
  • BTC Racing want to run a pair of Lexus IS200s for Chris Stockton and Darren Dowling.[4]
  • Daniels Motorsport plan to race Nick Leason in a Vauxhall Astra coupe.[5]
  • Team Forward Racing and Mark Jones plan to continue into 2007 with their Lexus IS200.[6]
  • Team Clyde Valley Racing aim to run 2 bio-ethanonol powered Chevrolet Lacettis driven by Dan Eaves and Colin Neill.[7]
  • Tom Onslow-Cole claims to be 85% through a deal that will see him join the British Touring Car Championship in 2007. He won the 2006 Renault Clio Cup support series and has been linked with WSR.[8]
  • Mark Smith and InFront Motorsport are planning to return to the BTCC next year, possibly with a new car.[9]
  • Motorbase have bought 3 SEAT Toledos in preparation for the 2007 season.[10]
  • Richard Marsh has bought a new car he intends to enter next season.[11]
  • Kartworld Racing and Jason Hughes plan to return in 2007, with an as yet unnamed Super 2000 specification car.[12]
  • Team Dynamics will switch to Super 2000 specification in 2007, possibly running BMWs. Steve Neal mentioned more likely Honda Civic Type Rs.[13]
  • West Surrey Racing will also make the switch to Super 2000, and have been linked to running Chevrolet Lacettis.
  • Geoff Steel Racing plan to run upto 3 BMW 320is in next years series, with two new drivers joining Martyn Bell in the team.[14]
  • Synchro Motorsport are aiming to switch cars for next season to a new Super 2000 specification example. They are yet to decide which car to run, but it is almost certain to be a Honda and James Kaye should be driving it again.
  • Xero Competition aim to enter their Lexus IS 200 to next years series, with Adam Jones tipped to drive one of the cars.
  • John George has purchased the Honda Integra DC05 that Matt Neal raced in the 2006 BTCC.
  • David Pinkney has sold his Honda Integra DC05.[citation needed]
  • Arena are planning to return to the series after a years absense, running the pair of BMW 320is E90s that RBM entered to this years WTCC[15]
  • Mike Jordan and Team Eurotech are to return, keeping the Honda Integra used in 2006. [16]
  • Rick Kelly and Moseley Motorsport are planning to enter the BTCC next season with a BMW 1-Series.
