Audi A3

You and Letdorf are the top to editors to this article, which has volumes of text and has virtually no references for that text. Can you please cleanup the article by adding references or deleting text that can't be referenced? --David Tornheim (talk) 22:38, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah sure mate. However I do not have good writing skills, but I can dedicate it to this. I am here only on a semi-basis, I have a website now, so I am going to dedicate my time to this --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 00:16, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not so much worried about the writing skills. The big problem is that so much of the material has no sources. It looks a bit like advertising for Audi. --David Tornheim (talk) 00:43, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok sure, do you have any particular sections you want me to focus on, or rewrite it all. I'll get my dad to help out, because my skills of paraphrasing is crap --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 00:44, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would just start from the top. Thanks. Try to make sure every single fact mentioned in the article goes to a reliable source. Keep in mind that we typically use WP:SECONDARY sources that are independent of the subject. Please point your dad to that. Thanks again. --David Tornheim (talk) 00:46, 29 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

Hi Nim, Please don't post comments such as this - Adding Vauxfords images under a "images to avoid" is bad enough but then to call his images crap is out of line,
You're both photographers but Nim you need to remember you don't own any article here and any editor is free to replace your image whenever and wherever they please,
I appreciate a good chunk of articles contains Vauxfords images but me being me I always strive to have a variety of peoples images not just one editors .... however there aren't that many good images around and Vauxford seems to take the best ones so far (although not all are great and on a few articles I've replaced his images and no I would say all this if he was any nationality)
When it comes down to I'd prefer to have one editors good images instead of different editors images where some are excellent and some are extremely poor!),
You've already gone to every Wikimedia project on the planet and replaced every image with your images (something I have a major major issue with) so it may be worthwhile taking a step back from EN for a bit to just chill and maybe concentrate on those projects (apart from Simple and Commons),
As I said take a step back for a while, Enjoy the festive period and come back when you're more relaxed :),
Thanks and take care, –Davey2010 Merry Christmas / Happy New Year 03:08, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Its funny Davey. The problem is that Vauxford appears to be replacing tons and tons of images with his own. I've always strived to use WP:CARPIX. The problem is sometimes Vauxford has extremely vague edit summaries which I don't completely understand. Also I'm a WP:WIKIHOLIC so its gonna be hard to step back. If I were to be blocked here, then suddenly I could go out of control. If Australian photographers such as Stepho-wrs & OSX were able to help and stand up and take my place, then I'd gladly leave but because neither of these two are just static and unable to possess a camera, then I have to step up. I'm slowly getting busier and busier and haven't got the time to do it anymore. I want to retire, but suddenly it appears no one wants to take over. Please, Stepho-wrs, just take pictures of the Australian cars for me, I'm getting tired and tired and unable to do this anymore. I don't know how many people get upset, when in fact I'm the one who gets stressed. In fact, I was going to get Stepho-wrs to do them for me. I want to work on my website and then with that I can leave Wikipedia peacefully. --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 03:17, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nim, This isn't about Australia Vs the World, It's simply about providing the best car images regardless of what country they were taken from,
If you don't want to be blocked then stop edit warring and stop making the silly comments,
Stepho-wrs isn't your lapdog Nim, He has a life as does everyone else and he has different hobbies like everyone else,
Please remember we're the English Encyclopedia which means we're home to the US, the UK, (England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland), Australia, New Zealand etc etc etc .... we're not plainly an Aussie website,
As I said if it's getting a bit much then take a break :), Thanks, –Davey2010 Merry Christmas / Happy New Year 03:28, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Vauxford's car list he gave me is too much for me. Any chance of me not swearing is good, because I cannot seem to find the time to relax. Even with preferences enabling my chances of leaving Wikipedia are completely slim. My images are awful yes, but theres chances I cannot help myself. I haven't edit warred in a while, and I know thats against WP policies. Edit warring means 3RR, and thats against guidelines. It'd be much easier if I'd left, but its too hard to do so. I've also noted you use swear words, which is completely beyond unacceptable, and its getting to the point where I cannot edit in peace. When I began in 2014, yes, I did have a really dumb camera, but as I progressed along, OSX complemented me over the years, yet I've been thinking why do I need to edit, if hes here. How can someone get 'blocked' for making silly comments? I don't understand. Should I just discontinue editing, and just photograph cars for fun and keep them to myself? I keep retiring and retiring, however its not effective as I need to contribute my non-UK shots. However no one else appears to be doing so for the Australian section. See WP:3RR and thats what edit warring is to me. --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 03:45, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Forgive me for intervening and including you in it Dave, but "I haven't edit warred in a while" isn't exactly true You done much more then 3 reverts on these. From the way you are speaking this sound like a form of obsession rather then a hobby which can bring distress rather then enjoyment to one person. --Vauxford (talk) 04:11, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it all gets frustrating sometimes. I can't take pictures for you. I've got decent equipment but unfortunately I don't have the knack for really good photos. More importantly, I don't have the time. I already spend at least an hour everyday on WP and work and family matters take up the remaining time.
My suggestion is to relax a bit. Concentrate on taking a few quality shots instead of a massive number of mediocre shots. I know you can do it but it takes time and effort. The biggest fault in your images are that you are taking opportunistic pictures of cars on the street. This means no choice in lighting, distracting backgrounds of beautiful Fremantle and often cars in dirty condition. Attend some car shows (Toyota at the Quay was real good last month) and take pictures of cars where you can setup a shot carefully. Chat to the owners and often they can organise a photoshoot on another day in some local park where you get to pick the time of day for good lighting (near sunset is good) and natural background (area 13 at Whiteman Park is great for this with plenty of grass parking area that not many people go to). PS I live next door to Whiteman Park but there are probably other areas that do just as well south of the river. Anyway, aim for quality, not quantity.  Stepho  talk  06:22, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I live in Nedlands Stepho-wrs (It'd take 30-45minutes to Whiteman Park). Unfortunately, Vauxford does the same thing of picturing cars on the street (rather he has narrow streets, in historical areas, such as Leamington Spa, Whitnash & Warwick, wheres my areas, such as Fremantle, Nedlands, Gosnells etc. aren't historically. If I were to do historic, I'd go to Guildford, but get less of a yield). I usually carefully upload what I think will be used. I don't just randomly picture vehicles and upload them, I usually take a lot of time to picure them. I've talked to my friends on Facebook, and they are willing to give me a tour of their suburbs, such as Floreat, West Leederville & Dalkeith. Normally i do it with friends, and Nedlands, vehicles are all locked up in garages, so Fremantle has the best volume of vehicles, along with the CBD. Also I use two lenses, and its dangerous to do it on the road, in Fremantle cars come charging like bull horns. If I were to do this, I'd have to hire out tons and tons of cars, which'd cost a lot of money. Unfortunately the street is the only option I have, due to the fact the cars are parked there. I'm guessing I should sorta reduce the aperture. My camera is nearly 5 years old, and is wearing out. I would also like to comment some of Vauxford's earlier examples are not the best, but I think they are sufficient. I guess, now its time to make sure that my camera settings are adjusted to focus. I always used f/7.1-f/9 because I assumed it was the best. I'm always open to discussion, so Vauxford is allowed to talk to me on why he reverted my edits. I'm in anytime. Also to add, if Vauxford can give me suggestions, such as different camera settings for me, I can use that , but the 'gain' bit isn't as necessary as other stuff I've seen. This can even help me with my website I'm creating. --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 06:35, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
From Nedlands you can get to Kings Park - they have some nice verge parking that is good for photoshoots. Same for the foreshore along Mounts Bay Road. Chat to the owners at car shows. Often they are willing to do a photoshoot for free if they know the pic will be on WP. Opportunistic pics on the street will always be a compromise out of your control.  Stepho  talk  07:03, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What about suburban areas, such as Cottesloe, Nedlands, Dalkeith etc. I think OSX pictured vehicles that were parked on the verge amongst suburban areas. My friends wanted to go to Fremantle, more often and university for me is there. I don't often do that, its a rare occassion (like a treat), so I don't get the chance to. With a family tragedy, now its a lot harder to find time, as we have to do religious ceremonies. I also don't understand why we needed to get of NRMA's photos that were from Flickr. With those, I didn't even need to worry about picturing and did my own thing and pictured something else. There wasn't any need to do that, but Wikimedia insisted so. I could work on car reviews --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 07:22, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Vauxford, please see your talkpage. I've made a revert, and I've informed you with enough detail. Do not revert, until we have discussed this :) Cheers --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 10:06, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Follow up comment

  • Comment: I haven't read all this, but I see what's going on above. As far as I am concerned, we put the best pictures in Wikipedia based on what the WP:CONSENSUS says is the best picture. No, this is not correct: any editor is free to replace your image whenever and wherever they please. We work on WP:CONSENSUS. If the consensus says keep the current image and do not replace it, then the current image stays. WP:BOLD edits are fine, but if they are violating consensus, they will be reverted. If there is disagreement on what picture is best, we have to find consensus. If no new consensus is found, the old picture stays.
So, please do not talk about who is the better photographer and try to let some people have more or fewer images than others. We should always use the best image. If you want to learn to take better pictures, I am all for that too. If you want my opinion on some pics, I am fine to give it, but not too many, please. You can go to dispute resolution for 3rd opinions or even launch an WP:RfC if necessary... --David Tornheim (talk) 04:25, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Alright thankyou David. OSX also advised me on July 7 2016 "...Be very careful about adding personal photos when quality is lower than other images." From there, I have been using my DSLR for 90% of my photos. I could maybe improve my 2019 shots. Sure, can I email you them? --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 04:27, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome. I would rather not receive a bunch of pics in email. If there is a way you can post them anywhere online, that would be better. If more than one editor is telling you the quality is inferior and no one is saying your photos are better... then I wouldn't try too much harder in getting your images on Wikipedia until you can fix the problem with the photos.
I am into photography, and often it is not the resolution that is most important, it has to do with things like angle, colors, lighting, composition, etc. See photography. Good photography is an art form--something you can definitely learn. Some of the best photographers use low tech. cameras. --David Tornheim (talk) 04:36, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. It doesn't seem like our photography article does a great job of explaining great photography. Here are some other articles on the subject of great photography: [2][3][4]. (I may add some more). --David Tornheim (talk) 04:40, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sure – I am making a website, are you from Australia? If yes, help yourself to Australian pictures :) --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 04:39, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
FYI. I am adding other resource(s) about great photography to the above comment.
No. I'm in the U.S. --David Tornheim (talk) 04:40, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You should work with Kevauto. Have fun --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 04:42, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. Those photos could use some work--poor framing. I'm not sure I am up to it with that editor. LOL. I hope yours are better.  :) --David Tornheim (talk) 04:47, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Stepho-wrs You sure this doesn't sound like a obsession Nim is making? The urge that there MUST be someone photographing cars on Wikipedia, this hobby is more of bringing him distress and discomfort then actually enjoying it. I did mention that I try to balance quality and quantity when it come to uploading them and I don't think there that mediocre. One thing I'm disliking though, is how childish Nim is with these accusatory and slanderous comments. Almost every reply he made to someone that isn't me is things like "Vauxford's car list he gave me is too much for me" "Unfortunately, Vauxford does the same thing of picturing cars on the street" "I have told Vauxford" "A lot of Vauxford's images" like I'm the scapegoat. --Vauxford (talk) 17:41, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly. Which is why I suggest a slower pace concentrating on quality over quantity. A quality image should win most of these discussions and therefore have less stress involved. I would offer the same advice to any WP photographers.  Stepho  talk  22:05, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think you all are making this more complicated than need be. Try to ignore the childish, accusatory and slanderous comments, which just reflect poorly on the one making them. Or ask them to be stricken as unproductive. By accusing another editor of making childish, accusatory and slanderous comments towards you, it just continues the cycle of accusations, defensiveness, and recriminations. Instead, just focus on deciding which pics are best. Keep it simple.
If it it's too much work to provide input, you don't have to. Most of us are just volunteers. Maybe try to help new editors to help share the work or request help from other experienced editors. --David Tornheim (talk) 23:38, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
100% – so that means I'm going to improve my images to ram them to QI. I'm purchasing plenty of editing filters and other items to improve --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 00:20, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not new David, however I am a little inexperienced. So thats why with a bit of help from others, I can be nutured --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 00:25, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't referring to you. I mean other editors interested in pics of autos. --David Tornheim (talk) 00:50, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
David Tornheim This is just going to cause more problems. Me and others tried to help Nim with his problematic behaviour but to no anvil and now you giving him a impression that reading a few links about photography going to make any of his mass replacing images justifiable. I was critical of Nim during the Summer and Autumn because of his ego and delusion with his mass replacing as well as his nitpicking CARPIX bogus he got from OSX on perfectly fine images that was there for year, I manged to get across to him that isn't good sport. Now you basically reset that cycle. The thing is, all the things Nim has accused me recently such as doing photographing "for gain" or "for how many from that country" are the very concerns I was expressing to him, it just he cannot think of a decent reason and just simply flip the concerns on me with very little evidences.
Addendum: As I found out, Nim is in yet another edit warring with some user. Isn't this enough to come across my point? --Vauxford (talk) 00:40, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Edit warring Vauxford is three reverts within 24 hours. Please read WP:3RR :) --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 00:45, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It still edit warring regardless and even then, reading the time, the 6 reverts you did are all less than 24 hours respectively. --Vauxford (talk) 00:52, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, getting action on an edit war where 3RR has not been broken is extremely difficult.[5] It's not how policy is supposed to be applied, and it's definitely not "fair", but it's how Wikipedia works. Editors who repeatedly edit-war but never violate 3RR do not, in my experience, get blocked on ANEW, but warned again and again and again; after the fourth or fifth incident ANI might work, but that's kinda beside the point. Hijiri 88 (やや) 01:44, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm not encouraging him to mass replace. If the community wants him to slow down, that's reasonable. Generally, if there is likely to disagreement on a change to an article, proposed changes should be made on the talk page of the article.
If there are objections to mass changes of pictures, they can all be reverted, right? --David Tornheim (talk) 00:52, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't work like that Dave --EurovisionNim (talk to me)(see my edits) 01:00, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
