I have never been affiliated with this denomination; however, I have read the "WELS & Other Lutherans" entry. It is not a directory, but rather secondary scholarship with footnotes that attempts to explain the relationship (or lack thereof) of each denomination with the WELS. In other words, this book is an independent third-party source of information about the denomination. Although this denomination was deleted, it should to be recreated and fill in a spot on the USA Lutherans template.

The Independent Lutheran Diocese (ILD) is a small Confessional Lutheran Association currently headquartered in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

History

The ILD was originally founded in 2005 as the Old Lutheran Church in America (OLCA), being formed from churches in schism from the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. In 2008 OLCA was renamed as the Independent Lutheran Diocese.

The ILD currently consists of four churches. As of 2015 there are currently 22 Pastors serving in the United States along with 3 International Pastors in Europe and Australia and 3 Lutheran Bodies in Altar and Pulpit Fellowship in India and Myanmar. Conferences are occasionally held with the clergy.

The ILD operates a long distance learning Seminary, the Independent Lutheran Seminary, operating from Klamath Falls, Oregon. The ILD also publishes books.

Worship

The ILD's "Common Liturgy" is nearly identical to the service liturgy found on in the 1941 The Lutheran Hymnal (TLH) and "Setting 3" of the 2008 Lutheran Service Book (LSB). The historic One-Year Lectionary is used in the ILD instead of the post-Vatican II Three-Year Lectionary or Revised Common Lectionary used by most Synods.

Polity

Despite the implications of the denominational name, the ILD practices the Congregationalist form of governance, in which each individual congregation can make decisions based on its needs. Congregations hold legal title to their church buildings and other property.
