Elimination Chamber (2019) (also known as No Escape (2019) in Germany[1][nb 1]) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view event and WWE Network event produced by WWE for their Raw and SmackDown brands. It will take place on February 17, 2019, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.[3] It will be the ninth event promoted under the Elimination Chamber chronology. The event will crown the inaugural holders of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship.

Storylines

The card will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WWE's writers on the Raw and SmackDown brands,[4][5] with storylines produced on WWE's weekly television shows, Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live.[6]

On the December 24, 2018, episode of Raw, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced that a new WWE Women's Tag Team Championship would be introduced in 2019.[7] On the January 14, 2019 episode of Raw, on her segment "A Moment of Bliss", Alexa Bliss unveiled the championship belts and revealed that the inaugural champions would be determined at Elimination Chamber in a tag team Elimination Chamber match, featuring three teams from Raw and three teams from SmackDown, making the championship non-exclusive to either brand.[8] On the January 28 episode of Raw, the team of Nia Jax and Tamina and The Riott Squad's Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan won the first two spots by defeating the teams of Bliss and Mickie James, and Natalya and Dana Brooke, respectively.[9] From SmackDown, the team of Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose confirmed their entry on the January 29 episode of SmackDown,[10] while The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) confirmed theirs on Twitter.[11] The final team from Raw will be decided on the February 4 episode of Raw where the team of Sasha Banks and Bayley will face the team of Alicia Fox and Nikki Cross.[11]

At the Royal Rumble, The Miz and Shane McMahon defeated The Bar (Cesaro and Sheamus) to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.[12] On the following episode of SmackDown, The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) defeated The Bar, The New Day (represented by Big E and Kofi Kingston), and Heavy Machinery (Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight) in a four-corners tag team elimination match to earn a championship match at Elimination Chamber.[10]

At the Royal Rumble, Daniel Bryan retained the WWE Championship against AJ Styles with help from the returning Rowan.[12] On the following episode of SmackDown, Bryan and Rowan threw the standard leather-bound title belt with metal plates in a garbage can and introduced a new custom belt made from hemp and wood. Styles then confronted Bryan, followed by Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, and Mustafa Ali. After an ensuing brawl, WWE Chief Operating Officer Triple H scheduled Bryan to defend the championship against Styles, Joe, Hardy, Orton, and Ali in an Elimination Chamber match at the pay-per-view.[10]
