Wikipedia is a great source of information for people from all over the world, it is also the most accessible and detailed source in different languages. There are more than 50 000 articles about civil engineering, it is very important that the data and information are true and neutral. The data should not be out of date, I think people are doing a great job updating the articles and trying to find new and more relevant information to the subject. Wikipedia is free, so people do not get paid to write articles. The NPV and NOR is a good way of keeping the articles neutral and based on real data. The fact that people have to cite their work and stay objective while writing is great.

Citations and sources of work don't include Newspaper articles, magazines or any media work, since most of the time it is bias and subjective also it is distorted sometimes. Media work is always targeting promoting, amusing and distracting its audience. Getting information from bias sources can influence the article and the subject in a very negative way simply by giving wrong information to people. Someone might use that knowledge to build their understanding or to further try to clarify some confusing concept. Some people base their research or school projects on Wikipedia articles so it is extremely important that people get the right knowledge and information and share it to build new ideas. If the information is wrong, everything you learn from it and you build based on it is going to be completely wrong and that is a disaster because after few years no one will make a difference between what is right and what is wrong.

I think that a 100 years ago, people did not have enough information to write about many things. The articles would also have been more bias to serve someone's interest, or to hide some reality. The information would have also been weak and not fully described scientifically, because many of the major scientific discoveries were made and verified on the 30's. People would have not been able to access it, since it was a luxury to go to school, know how to write and read. Technology was almost non-existent, no calculators, no computers, no lasers. 100 years from now we will have so much information on different and numerous topics that we will need many encyclopedias to contain it. The information will be very detailed and always updated, people would have access to it very easily. I also think that we would have it on different forms, as audible sources, videos maybe even translated into braille.

As engineers we can say that a 100 years ago the science of materials, technology and hydrology were not as developed as they are today. It was also very hard to know the topography of any region, which is not the case today because of satellites pictures, lasers, labs etc... In a 100 years engineers will take less time to build infrastructure, and we will also make sure that it wont collapse, no matter what the reason is. We will have a better weather forecast so that we would anticipate the days of work and those of rest. We will have faster and more effective technologies. Hopefully we will not lack material and resources. We will discover new ways to lay concrete, maybe even make concrete out of recycled objects.

About 100 years ago, Wellington, Roberts, Haydon and Campbell, would have talked about civil engineering in a completely different way. Cost accounting was introduced during the late 90s and finance as well. Hydrology and topography are relatively new sciences that were mastered at the end of the 80s. So 100 years ago, all those great engineers would have talked about Civil engineering by bringing up surveyors, immediate calculations with no economic anticipation or expectation. Long sheets of hand made calculations instead of spreadsheets, drawn plans instead of 3D computer generated representations. Errors in calculations and decisions. Weeks of waiting to get the material to the sites, workers with no experience. Different styles of architecture, more into impressionism, low buildings, no basements etc...

In a 100 years engineers will maybe program machines to do the whole process of calculations and decision for them, from the fastest and easiest way to get from a point to another, the types of rocks the region has to the perfect material to use to build a dam in function of the level of pollution of water. Engineers will probably only do check-ups and manage the project. Satellites pictures would be more detailed and useful, factories would produce concrete faster, the ecosystem will be more respected and preserved. Forests will be relocated, the energy used to generate power would be more green.The infrastructure would look very futuristic and solid.

My name is Yasmine khiri, I'm from Morocco and I go to school in Washington DC. I'm a student at Howard university, I study engineering. I love science (math and physics), and sports(tennis). I created this account for one of my engineering courses, I will do my best to edit well some content here on Wikipedia and learn how to write about some subjects.
