He earned the C-Licence of the national association of Thuringia and later the national B-licence. In 2010, he refereed for the first time a match with professional players during a exhibition tournament in Brugge with Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis and others.[3] In the same year, he applied as a referee for the new Players Tour Championship and earned experience during European tournaments and in qualification matches for the Main Tour. At the 2012 Paul Hunter Classic, he refereed for the first time a PTC-final.[1] At the 2012 German Masters, he refereed for the first time a match in an full ranking tournament.
With the beginning of the season 2013/14, Eckardt, at age 23, became the youngest snooker referee at the A-squad which consists of twelve snooker referees.[4] As the youngest referee ever, Eckardt refereed the final of the 2015 German Masters which was a full ranking tournament. His first Maximum Break, from Judd Trump, he refereed at the quarter finals of the same tournament. He refereed five Maximum Breaks so far (March 2019).[5]
