FreeAgent is cloud-based accounting software targeted at small businesses and their accountants. The company was purchased by Royal Bank of Scotland for £53 million in 2018.[1]

The first beta was launched in April 2007, followed by the official launch in September and referral scheme in October.

FreeAgent was conceptualised because managing company finances was hard for most small businesses and freelancers. Starting back in 2006, the founders wanted to demystify accounting and redefine the relationship people have with their finances.
