The Cimarron Range, locally Cimarrons, is a group of peaks in southwestern Colorado of the San Juan Mountains. The Cimarrons are within eastern Ouray County and are also oriented north-south.

Prominence

From afar the Cimarrons appear to be continuous with the Sneffels Range. The most prominent peak is Courthouse. From the Uncompahgre Valley the Cimarrons are easily observed.

The most prominent and well known peak of the Cimarrons is Courthouse Mountain, reaching 12,152 ft (3,704 m).[1]

Chimney Rock (sometimes called Chimney Peak)[2] is a tall prominence at the northeast end of the Courthouse Mountain ridge.[3]. Standing at 11,781 feet, this distinctive prominence appeared in the movie True Grit.[2] Chimney Rock is believed by some to be the most difficult climb in Colorado.[2]
