Hi Shalor
Hi Shalor

Hope you are well today, as you know I've been assigned to do edit a wikipedia page for a class. To be quite honest I'm not tech savvy and I very confused on what's expected of me. I have chosen to edit the page "callao" since is my city of birth. I have found a lot more information about this through Callaos's municipality website. I guess my question is do I type any contributions in my sandbox along with the citation and wait to add it to the page? Do I edit directly on the page? It worries me that I might type something wrong or cite something incorrectly and get backlash or in trouble for it. I know this might be silly but I'm honestly freaking out. Thanks in advance for your help. I'm attaching the website I plan on using for information for you to revise.

User:CalebPhelps99

Hi again Shalor. I think CalebPhelps99 is another one of your students. He's trying to write an article about a video game at User:CalebPhelps99/sandbox, but he's having problems with images like File:The Heist.jpg. Caleb might not fully understand that any screenshot he thinks he's "creating" is almost certainly to be copyrighted by someone else, unless he's the actual designer/creator of game. FWIW, in an article about a video game, one non-free image of the product packaging is generally allowed for primary identification purposes and then one in-game screenshot is generally allowed for representative purposes in the gameplay section; any thing beyond that becomes much harder to justify and almost always requires some specific sourced critical commentary about the screenshot for it to meet WP:NFC#CS usually because of some technical/controversial aspect about it that received covered in reliable sources. Non-free screenshots are not really going to be accepted just to "show" plot points or certain features, especially redundant screenshots. It appears (at least first glance) that Caleb has otherwise done quite a good job with the draft outside of the images, but the images are the things which are going to create problems if he continues to upload them without proper licensing. Anyway, the image notifications are going to start adding up on Caleb's user talk if he continues to try and upload/add images to his sandbox; so, it might be a good idea to suggest he focus on the other stuff and leave the images until after the draft has been approved as an article. I was going to suggest this to him directly, but I wanted to run it by you first since you have more experience at interacting with these students. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:49, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need help request from Laylaserna (talk)

Hello.

I need help with what I have so far for my wikipedia article. I would like to know specifically what I must do to improve, and whether my information is too statistic heavy. Additionally, I am not too sure what is going on with my first source if you would be able to explain what has occurred. Thank you!

Need help request from Fariha34 (talk)

Hello.

I hope you are doing well. My name is Fariha and I wanted feedback on my Sandbox page. The other members of my group are Anna Wohlin, Ashley Davidson, and Isabelle Shegog. I have not yet posted this to the talk page, but I will be doing so.

I need help with organizing my page, your opinion on the words I chose for hyperlinks, if my sources are good, and anything else you think I should add or change! Also, the link to the page I plan on editing with my group is in the title of my Sandbox.

Thank You!

Hello.

My name is Montana Nelson. I am in a group with Barbora, Rebecca Lee, and Morgan Atherton. I am seeking advice on what I could improve on, what I could add in, and what still would not make sense to the audience. I have not yet posted my work to the talk page, but I will after I have gotten enough help with my work. Thanks so much.Montananelson (talk) 17:07, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need help request from Rebxlee (talk) Professor Azar's student

Hello.

My name is Rebecca and I am a student of Professor Azar for University Writing. We are working on a Wikipedia Project and my group is rewriting the Wikipedia "Feminism in China" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism_in_China. My group members are Barbora Lehka, Morgan Atherton, and Montana Nelson. I have not posted this to the talk page, but I will. I would appreciate if you could look over my article and examine my language. I tried to remain as neutral as I could. Please let me know if I need more sources as well. Thank you so much. Need help request from Caranlee (talk)

Hello.

My name is Cara Lee and I am in Professor Azar's class. My portion of the "haunted dolls" page is pretty much finished, maybe some minor edits. My other group members are Sam Wolff, Maddy Wright, and Graham Hurley. I haven't yet posted my contribution to the page in the talk page for haunted dolls but I plan to soon. I was wondering if I needed any clarification on my information included such as the history and psychology. I chose not to dive too deep into both topics since they were not specifically in relation to the haunted dolls themselves. Thank you!

Need help request from Miaeschlidt (talk)

Hello Shalor!

I am Mia Schlidt and I am doing a Wikipedia project of Social Media in the Fashion Industry. The other girls in my group are Carla Picasso and Egbe Imariagbe. When you're on the page that we are adding to, I am focusing on the use of advertising through the apps.

I currently need help with not using bias, if I am adding useful information or just fluff, and I don't know if I should keep the "instagram" portion out of the brand influencer section or keep it how I have.

Thanks! Miaeschlidt (talk) 18:08, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I hope this note finds you well, I am part of Professor Azar's class at the George Washington University. I am working on an article titled "Social Media in the Fashion Industry" with Mia Schlidt and Egbe Imariagbe. These changes are provided in my sandbox and in italics are just my thoughts on how i am structuring my contribution. I have not yet proposed these changes to the talk space but I will soon. I was wondering if my changes were good enough to add to this article.

Thank you very much,

Hello.

I need help with...submitting my page for review.

--Whitakeml (talk) 03:52, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shalor (Wiki Ed). This appears to have been mistakenly moved to another page in the username space by it's creator Jolynnperez, who seems to be one of the students you're helping. It might be better to move this to the draft namespace instead and submit it for WP:AFC review or merge some of the content into one of the already existing articles on polygamy, Utah or Mormonism since it kind of has a WP:CONTENTFORK feel to it, but that's my personal opinion. Regardless, the page is likely going to end up tagged for speedy deletion per WP:FAKEARTICLE if it's not moved back to the Jolynnperez's sandbox, or to the draft namespace. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:11, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

JJMC89 moved the page back to the student’s sandbox, but the student then re-moved the page once again; this time to Utah Polygamy and Law Since 2000. Putting aside opinions as to whether this is a content fork, there’s some MOS issues that need to be sorted. The title capitalization seems wrong which might mean another move is needed, while the first subsection’s title and article’s title probably shouldn’t be identical and the capitalization of the remaining section headings also needs tweaking. These are relatively straightforward tweaks, but currently there’s also no real lead for the article and there also be the need for some re-writing of other parts as well, which is a more significant change. I’m not sure whether the student understands that their work is pretty much fair game for anyone to edit now that they’ve moved their work to the mainspace, while anyone trying to clean things up may not be aware that their efforts may directly impact the grade the student receives. — Marchjuly (talk) 20:37, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @Marchjuly: wrote,

while anyone trying to clean things up may not be aware that their efforts may directly impact the grade the student receives.

I certainly hope you’re mistaken about that, or that I’m mistaken in my interpretation of it, because this is still the encyclopedia that anyone can edit. If professors are unable to grade student efforts without a hands-off policy on the part of the other 5.6 million editors, then something is rotten in Denmark. If their article is in Draft namespace, it’s still fair game but I might give a student some leeway, but I won’t promise it. If they want to be left alone to edit, they should use a User draft, or leave it in their sandbox. We follow WP policies here, not those of universities or professors. Mathglot (talk) 02:31, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No not mistaken, and this is one of the reasons why I think it's not really a good idea for these students to move their own drafts to the mainspace. There've been cases in the past where such pages utimately ended up deleted because the content simply wasn't suited for the mainspace. It seems that some of these class projects set "moving the draft" to the mainspace as one ot the things they want the students to do. Some teachers apparently do grade on all the steps followed to reach the final submitted draft, not just the final draft; even so, I personally think it would be better for the students to submit the final draft for AfC review instead of moving it themselves, but the time it takes to do this often doesn't not fit the schedule of the course. The WikiEd advisors try to make this clear to the students and teachers participating in these programs, but they can only do so much. This has come up before at Wikipedia:Education noticeboard, but it can be tricky to deal with if the teacher isn't very familiar with Wikipedia since most of the students are going to look to their teacher, not the Wikipedia community, for adivce and it's the teacher, not the Wikipedia community, doing the actual grading. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:07, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Marchjuly, Mathglot, thank you for letting me know about this! We encourage instructors to grade students on their work and effort as opposed to what sticks. By this I mean that they would look in the article history to see the student's original work or they would try to get a copy of the material to grade if it was removed from Wikipedia. We definitely do not want live student work to go without being edited and improved, if it is necessary. I'm actually going to move this back to their userspace, as this looks to be redundant to the existing article on Current state of polygamy in the Latter Day Saint movement, as the article looks to be predominantly about this specific topic as opposed to general polygamy. There are also a number of issues to boot, which I'll address with the student while also warning them not to move the page live again. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:58, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ms. Shalor,

My name is Xavia, I am a student in Professor Azar's class at GW, and the Wikipedia article my group and I are editing is "Acoustics". My group members are Caitlin and Alexis. In my sandbox, I have been working on a subsection called "Psychological Effects of Acoustics", where I have been describing how acoustics has cognitive influences on people. If you do not mind, can you let me know if it is not enough information or if I need to expand any ideas? Also, I feel like I am not writing it the way most Wikipedia articles are written in that I think mine reads like a class essay almost. Could you give me some tips on how to fix this and how to make my edits more direct? I also want to mention I have not yet published what is in my sandbox.

Thank you and any advice you can give me on how to make this edit Wikipedia worthy is very appreciated!

Nowiki tag?

Hello Shalor,

Thanks for helping us with our research lab, we really appreciate it! I moved an article draft out of my sandbox (Neuroprivacy), but deleted most of it as I only wanted to uploaded my lead section to the mainspace. Later, another user undid my deletion, which resulted in my entire article being reuploaded to the mainspace. The same user added my article to the "Neuroscience" and "Privacy" categories, and also tagged my article with the "nowiki" tag. I think my article being reinstated and added to categories is a good thing, but do you have an idea of what the "nowiki" tag means? I tried looking it up but wasn't sure exactly what it meant. Thank you so much!

What the game has given me and the Rainbow six siege community. I follow the creators very well (Ubisoft) and their updates. I have been playing the game for about 4 years in December it will be five. With these two operators together I have around 6,000 kills. But that is not relevant i want to talk about the operators and what they have done. In the game they have a bio section and its a small background of what the creators gave us, but there is a lot of common conspiracy's after what the creators have given us and what we think happens after that, during, and what they are doing now. None have be retired yet, but out of the whole 45 operators there are some old ones, Valk and BlackBeard are in their early and mid thirties. I also want to talk about what we think these two will do after words and what the community thinks. Both of these characters are loved and hated by the community. The developers hate Blackbeard because every season he gets a Nerf ( fixed to make the game better and him weaker) Or a buff ( fixed to make the game better and him stronger) For the past 2 years and 8-10 season he has been changed so much its hard to enjoy playing with him anymore. One season his shield goes from 10 bullets to 2 bullets to break and he gets slower or faster. The shield gets heavier or lighter and sometimes he gets slower because the shield is so heavy but it is weaker, sometimes people can find soft spots in his shield to where it will break after a single shot, and it takes him forever to replace it with his second shield and hes to slow to find cover or get to it.

Hello!

Can you please look over our sandbox (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BerberichA2/sandbox) and see if the changes we are planning are good? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Help Please

Hello!

I used the creative commons website to search for images that can be used, but found images already on wikipedia. Am I able to use these images for my article and just add a link to the source?

problems

Hi, there seem to be problems with Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/Eckerd College/Global History in a Modern World (Spring 2019)

maybe some further attention needed on this one?

Professor question

I am teaching using Wikipedia for the first time and up until now this has been a good experience. A Wikipedia editor MPS1992 has come out this evening and attacked me and my students. On my talk page, he accused me of not being a professional and accused my students of randomly wrecking Wikipedia. They have worked with me for months coming up with the edits that they want to make and their projects are due tomorrow. I know that I will still be able to see their edits if someone deletes all of them, but I am concerned that this user is reacting quite harshly to them and to me.

One student that he seems particularly concerned about is a young woman that I have who is working on Tupac Amaru II. She is a Spanish major and went to great lengths to find a Spanish source (the only one that she could locate) that she duly translated and then put the information completely in her own words. There does not seem to be any warnings about translated material in the WikiEducation pages. I am having trouble seeing how it is different from high-quality English sources that one would use for facts that one is putting into their own words. Could you please explain this to me? Help me!

I'm still confused on how to use the talk page and not sure if I posted my last message in the correct spot. I have some conflicting information with the existing information on the page that I am working on. Also, the information listed is not cited. I'm not sure how to go about replacing the information I have with what is listed. I'm having trouble blending my information with information that is already there.

Need help request from Murgamayra (talk)

I'm attaching the website I plan on using for information for you to review.
