Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! -- Francs2000 | Talk 02:05, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)

You seem to have a good grasp of Dragon Ball history, would you care to help me finish Dragon Ball (franchise)? I'd like for it to eventually be the main DB article, or at least one that is less fanboyish. Too many DB articles here are written by the fans, for the fans. Not really good Wikipedia. Megapithicanthropic

I'm not convinced this is a word, but it sure looks impressive. JRP 17:05, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I coined it, actually. As werewolves are considered lycanthropes, from the Greek lükos (wolf) and anthropos (man), I consider Saiyans to be megapithicanthropes, from megas (great / large), pithikos (ape), and anthropos (man). If you don't like it, feel free to remove it, but I'm rather fond of it myself (maybe it works better as a noun than an adjective, though). --Julian Grybowski 17:15, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe some explanation of the word on the page may be in order, but it seems applicable enough. Someone may eventually remove it, if left unqualified. Since the oozaru form is occasionally referred to as the "wereape" form in English, you could maybe use just pithanthropic... though I'm not positive I'm spelling that right. One Piece Summary

One Piece Infobox

The infobox is looking good. Care if I add a few more additions to it? (i.e. Crew member positions, devil fruit, pirate allegiance, voice actor/Seiyu)

As of now, I'm still experimenting with the infobox. I've removed the devil fruit listing (I missed you already had a seperate box started), also I was considering on shortening up the "name section" of the header. Since the names seem to be pretty much the same between the english manga and anime, how about we remove the seperate headings? Let me know what you think of the changes.

Hamilton College "College Songs"

Thanks for adding the Hamilton College fight song! I was just about to hunt down the lyrics after adding Carissima (my first Wikipedia contribution)

Deletion of 'liberal wikipedians' category

Hi. I saw you're (like me) listed in this category which is up for deletion. Hoped you'd like to vote in favor of keeping it... Thanks! Larix 23:58, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Daizex copyvio

Just saw this: [1]. You might want to go through the other DB Movie pages to see if any other ones violate Daizex copyrights. JRP 14:47, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. I figured if anyone was gonna come to the Japanese language's rescue and save it from my substandard attempt at romanizing "Thousand Island" that it'd be you. Heh. Papacha 17:30, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Third opinions wanted ~~

I'm going to various contibuting editors to DragonBall articles to receive help and third opinions on a dispute between Zarbon and myself on the List of Frieza Related Characters in Dragon Ball. And lucky, lucky, you just so happen to be one... and an authority, at that. ^_^ Any input/discussion on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Papacha 15:05, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that all of the steps for putting it up for merge and deletion ahve not been completed. Please see this page for a list of everything that needs to be done in order for it to be properly listed. Thanks! --日本穣 17:19, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:DBAF-SSJ5 Goku.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stan 15:54, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Omiyage / Souvenier

To quote your good self on the Yotsuba&! article: "the Japanese concept of ritual gift-giving is not fully encompassed by "souvenir," particularly in this case." Seeing as the current translation for this edition of Yotsuba&! uses this word, you might want to find a more approproiate alternative. If you are unable to, and you still feel that the differences between the Japanese form of omiyage giving and the western style of souvenir giving are considerable enough to be worthy of note, you may want to add a translators note explaining the inadequacy of the term souvenir in this case. Akira Toriyama

You said that Toriyama never mentioned spending time with his family. I do not know if you know this, but I read in an interview that was a reason he quit Dragon Ball and started doing more one-shots. And mentioning his family, I only know his first sons name, Sasuke. Did he ever release any other information about his family? Thanks

Modular templates?

I noticed that you have been using a modular system to construct the character infobox for the One Piecce characters, and while I am a template newbie myself, I am wondering why exactly. Is there any particular advantage to use of modular templates as opposed to those which simply do not show any blank field?

For an example of what I'm talking about, look at Template:Bleach character info. This template, while it has more complex code, is able to be used for all characters in the series, regardless of how complete a biography they have, as it auto-hides any blank field. For example, Ichigo Kurosaki's article displays the full list, while Ulquiorra's displays nearly nothing, but the template being used is identical.--tjstrf 19:50, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dragon Ball canon

Can you help us out here? The big issue, and one that I admit that I don't have an answer to, is whether Toriyama or Toei or anyone ever actually officially stated what was canon or not. There are very well-developed fan ideas of what is canon vs what is not, and we can cite some of those, but are there any official sources in the daizenshuus, etc? (Even a references to the movies as being "What Ifs" establishes that Toei knows they are not canonical to the series, for example.) If anyone knows of such in original Japanesde sources, it would probably be you. JRP 12:32, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your input. One more thing: Do you know which of the Daizenshuus contains the DB timeline? I don't know if it is one of the ones that I have. If I remember right, though I'm not sure I've ever seen the original, that doesn't have the movies in it. Which is a nice way of saying (other than they don't fit, of course, but I'm doing what I can here...) that they aren't canon to the anime. So, I have a source to cite. Yes, much of the canon discussion is fanwank, but there is some small value to it... Thanks. (JRP, can't log in from here) 209.202.205.1 17:01, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to 4Kids Entertainment.

Your revert made the article look much worse than it was before. The idea was to turn that one huge paragraph into several paragraphs a/or areas so that it looks like the information is bunched up. I reverted it back. Don't go backwards in editing, go forwards. --293.xx.xxx.xx 07:28, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding DBZ articles

"English is not one of those languages. Moreover, at Wikipedia we should be striving to achieve a level of accuracy worthy of being considered "encyclopedic." We should not be bowing to the pressure of misinformed fans because they are vocal about their incorrect beliefs. If that were the case, we could easily end up like some of the DBZ-related articles (which I have ceased to bother with trying to keep in line). --Julian Grybowski 12:24, 30 August 2006 (UTC)"

Why not protect them from anons and new users? Then explain to the fanboys that, since the fanboys abused the poor articles, only experienced Wikipedians may edit them.

However I believe we would have to get permission for such a block. WhisperToMe 23:27, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Vice admiral garp.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Vice admiral garp.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Vandals - reverting is not enough

Seriously I made a fool of myself just now reporting that IP adress who vandlise the minor characters list for one piece when hadn't been warned. That doesn't matter, I often jump ahead of myself here so I'm not bothered.

Anyway, can you look up the vandal rules next time you do a revert? I want to catch that vandal who is vandalising that page badly, but I can't get him banned if everyone else doesn't help out here. He needs at least a level 3 vandal warning to be banned... He has only JUST recieved a note of his actions can be consider vandlising. That not even the minium level. I seriously want this guy stopped, so if you see this IP adess: 66.168.104.139 go to this the Wikipedia:Vandalism and see what he deserves.

I'm seriously not amused... Lots of people work on the one piece pages, we recieve our fair share of vandals... But few people actually take action against the vandal when he works his dark magic on us. Angel Emfrbl 08:17, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:DBAF-SSJ5_Goku.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DBAF-SSJ5_Goku.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 13:40, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:DBAF-SSJ5_Goku.jpg

I have tagged Image:DBAF-SSJ5_Goku.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. MER-C 13:40, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kansai-ben

Hi, I reverted your last edit, because there weren't any WP:RS. On the other hand, there are hardly any RS for anything in that article, so maybe it was unfair of me to remove it, I don't know. I do however think that "Oda Mairi's" assertion are not good enough to replace RS - Japanese non-Kansai-ben speakers often have many stereotypes about Kansai-ben - cf a Japanese native speaker who previously suggested "いぬ" (for leave) was frequently used in Kansai. I hope you agree with my revert. Thank you Mackan 08:35, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I wrote the name of the Dic. and its edition on Mackan's talkpage. Isn't it good enough as a RS? Thank you for trusting me.--Oda Mari 17:27, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:OP Logo.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:OP Logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 23:24, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Kujibiki Unbalance TV.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Kujibiki Unbalance TV.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:51, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Change of kanji

Hello, can you please explain your change of kanji in this edit? Thank you, Badagnani (talk) 16:58, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, to make each use of the kanji consistent, I changed the unofficial "extended shinjitai" variant forms to their unsimplified official forms. I don't mind whether one is used over the other, but I prefer that they be consistent. --Julian Grybowski (talk) 17:10, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copying content within Wikipedia

Hello. It seems that you created the article Aogeba tōtoshi as a translation of ja:仰げば尊し. While are you welcome and even encouraged to help out by translating articles from one language Wikipedia to another, there are copyright concerns with doing so without giving proper attribution to the original. Please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. At minimum, you must indicate in edit summary, with a link, the article which you are translating. Dragon Ball companion books

Hey, it would be good if you can add sources for the Companion books section of Dragon Ball. I trust what you added completely, because I know who you are (internet speaking, not in real life), but if some other editor were to come along and challenge it then it could possibly be removed since most of the stuff has no source. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:56, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source/license for File:ElectraSpecimen.png

Thanks for uploading File:ElectraSpecimen.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 21:46, 14 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Osaka Metro Logo.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Osaka Metro Logo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:30, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Julian Grybowski. It would help if you can provide a source url for where you got the image. This makes it easier to verifiy copyright status. You might also want to considered using {{Non-free use rationale logo}} for the non-free use rationale. You don't have to use a template, but it helps keeps things standardized and the template lists pretty much all of the information generally expected to be provided for a file such as this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:54, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Osaka Metro Logo.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Osaka Metro Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:18, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:DwigginsPortrait.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:DwigginsPortrait.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 18:54, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
