Robert III of Sablé founded the Abby of Gaut outside of Bois-Renou [2] in 1189. He married Hersende with whom he had a daughter, Marguerite,[2] and a son, Robert IV de Sablé.[3]

His father was Lisiard, Lord of Sablé, and both fought against Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou.[4] The battle lasted until 1146, when they signed a treaty.[4]
