Lyndon Dykes (born 7 October 1995) is an Australian professional association footballer who plays as a striker or an attacking midfielder for Queen of the South in the Scottish Championship, on loan from Livingston. Dykes has previously played for a number of clubs in Australia and also the Doonhamers in Scotland.
Dykes has played football for Australian schoolboys and is also eligible to represent Scotland, his parents' birthplace. [1]
Background
Dykes was born in Gold Coast in Queensland. Dykes' parents are from Dumfries in Scotland. Dykes also spent part of his younger years living and playing rugby league in Canberra. Dykes' return to the Gold Coast was the spark for him taking up association football, as he played youth football for Mudgeeraba SC before joining Merrimac FC. Dykes then played in the 2015 National Premier Leagues Queensland with Redlands United and joined Gold Coast City FC the year after but soon departed to play that season for Surfers Paradise Apollo SC for one month.[1] Dykes has dual nationality and is eligible to play for Australia or Scotland.[1]
Queen of the South
Dykes toured England with the Australian schoolboys, after which he visited his relations in Dumfries, the home town of his parents. After returning to Australia, Dykes returned to Dumfries to play for Queens Under 20s team.[1] Dykes scored 22 goals in 14 competitive matches at this level before returning to Australia in January 2015.[2]
On 7 June 2016, Dykes returned to Scotland and signed for Queen of the South, who had Gavin Skelton as their manager at that time. Dykes' senior competitive debut was representing Queens in a 2-0 Scottish League Cup win versus Queen's Park at the Excelsior Stadium on 16 July 2016.[1] On 7 December 2017, Dykes signed an extension to his contract that kept him at the Dumfries club until 31 May 2019. [3] During his two and a half years in Dumfries, Dykes played in 86 league matches and scored 10 league goals and played in 31 cup matches and scored 9 cup goals for the Doonhamers.
Livingston
On 30 January 2019, Dykes secured a two-year contract to join Livingston, however, the Doonhamers reached an agreement with the West Lothian club for Dykes to return to Palmerston Park on loan until the end of the 2018-19 season.[4]
