The Springfield College is a joint initiative of the Anglican Church of Australia and the Uniting Church in Australia, and along with:-

• Forest Lake College,
• Mary McConnel School,
• The FLC International Centre, and
• The Lakes College,

is operated by EDUCANG Limited.

The current campus, on Springfield College Drive, Springfield, eventually will house just the Junior School (Prep to Year Six) as a centre of Excellence in Early Childhood Education.

A separate campus is being established for the Middle School (Years Seven to Nine) and for the Senior School (Years Ten to Twelve) on the Springfield - Greenbank Arterial. Construction is to start in early 2007 with completion by 2008. It will have an ultimate capacity of 1050 students.

History

The Springfield College (TSC) was established in 1998, with an enrolment of eleven students. Student numbers have grown quickly and it now has an enrolment of 600 students, from Prep (pre-school) to Year Twelve.

College Clans

The Springfield College has four clans, named in honour of some of Scotland's proudest and most historic families. Each clan has its own crest, which is displayed on the student's sports uniform.

Curriculum

The Springfield College's approach to education seeks to develop well-rounded young men and women with a thorough grounding in the academic, cultural, social, spiritual and physical domains. It delivers a 'child-centred', developmental approach, where each student is treated as an individual whose progress is closely monitored.

The Springfield College's academic curriculum offers a broad range of science, humanities and vocational subjects, carefully selected to prepare graduates for the technological world of the 21st century.

The Springfield College believes there are three discrete stages of a child's education:-

1. the foundation studies of early childhood,
2. the middle years of development and growth, and
3. the final years of preparation for adult life.

The College structure reflects these stages of individual development, rather than the traditional Primary and Secondary Schooling distinction.

Mandarin Chinese

Mandarin Chinese is the College's official Language Other Than English (LOTE) and is taught in all classes from Prep (pre-school) upwards.

In Years Eleven and Twelve, it may be taken as an elective subject.

Music

All The Springfield College students from Prep (pre-school) onwards learn to play an orchestral musical instrument.

Students in Prep and Years One, Two, Three and Four receive instruction in the violin.

From Year Five, students may elect to continue with the violin, or they may prefer to choose from a range of other string, woodwind, brass or percussion instruments. Students will be guided in their choice by the College Instrumental Music Instructors.

Academic Performance

OPs or Overall Positions, provide a statewide rank order of students (on a 1 to 25 scale, with 1 the highest) based on achievement in Queensland Studies Authority subjects and the Core Skills Test. They are used by universities for selecting students for courses.

Sport

TAS (The Associated Schools) Sports

The Springfield College sporting program is centred around membership of-

• The Associated Schools (TAS) for students in Years 8-12, and
• Junior TAS Competition (JTAS) for students in Years 4-7,

the premier co-educational sporting associations of South-East Queensland.

The College participates in TAS Saturday Sporting fixtures over 3 trimesters. Each trimester is approximately nine weeks. The College also participates in Interschool Carnivals in Swimming, Cross-country and Athletics.

Coaches and managers look for students who not only have good skills and fitness levels, but also those who are punctual, reliable and cooperative. Both experienced and novice players are encouraged to participate and enjoy the challenges associated with skill development and improvement.
