Vichitra Jeevitham (English: Strange Life) is a 1978 Telugu drama film, produced by Nidamarthi Padmakshi and N. Pushpa Bhatt under the Sri Umalakshmi Combines banner[2] and directed by V. Madhusudhan Rao.[3] It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Vanisri, Jayasudha in the lead roles and music composed by Chakravarthy.[4] The film is a remake of the Hindi movie Daag (1973),[5][6] which itself is based on Thomas Hardy's novel The Mayor of Casterbridge.
Plot
Chandra Shekar (Akkineni Nageswara Rao), falls in love with beautiful Gowri (Vanisri) and they get married. Soon, Chandram gets a job in an estate and they leave there. On the way, owing to bad weather, they decide to spend a night at a bungalow owned by Chandram boss Surendra Nath (Mohan Babu), who tries to rape Gowri when she is alone. But Chandram arrives in time, and a fight ensues, resulting in the death of Surendra Nath. Chandra Shekar is arrested and, later, sentenced to death by the court. But, on the way to prison, the police van carrying him meets with an accident. All occupants are killed. At the time Gowri is pregnant, she gives birth to a baby boy. Years later, Gowri, working as a school teacher and bringing up Chandram's son, finds out that her husband is still alive. He is living with a new identity as Shekar and is married to a rich woman named Ganga (Jayasudha). After escaping from the police van, Chandram met Ganga, whose lover had ditched her on learning of her pregnancy. Chandra Shekar married her to provide legitimacy to her child, in return for her help in establishing his new identity. Now, after so many years, the law is once again at his doorstep. This time, however, there is an added crime to his name: bigamy. The rest of the story whether Chandram would able to prove his innocence.
