The Londonderry City by-election of 1872 was fought on 23 November 1872[20 3]. The byelection was fought due to the resignation of the incumbent MP of the Liberal Party, Richard Dowse, when he became Baron of the Court of the Exchequer. It was won by the Conservative candidate Charles Edward Lewis.[1]
