W. R. Berkley Corporation (NYSE: WRB) is a Fortune 500 company founded in 1967, and based in Greenwich, Connecticut, United States.[7][8]
W. R. Berkley Corporation is a commercial lines property & casualty insurance holding company. In 2012, W. R. Berkley's total revenue was $5.82 Billion, of which $3.94 Billion came from the company's Insurance-Domestic segment, $678 Million from Insurance-International segment and $732 Million from Reinsurance-Global segment.[9] In 2017, the total revenue was $7.68 Billion.[10]
Overview
W. R. Berkley Corporation operates worldwide in two segments of the property casualty insurance business:[10]
- Insurance - predominantly commercial insurance business, including excess and surplus lines, admitted lines and specialty personal lines throughout the United States, as well as insurance business in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, South America, Canada, Mexico, Scandinavia, Asia and Australia.
- Reinsurance - reinsurance business on a facultative and treaty basis, primarily in the United States, United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Australia, the Asia-Pacific region and South Africa.
As of December 2017, the corporation consists of 54 operating units, 47 have been organized and developed internally and seven have been added through acquisition.[10]
Management
W. R. Berkley Corporation was founded in 1967 by William R. Berkley who currently serves as Executive Chairman.[8] On October 31, 2015, Mr. Berkley's son, W. Robert Berkley, Jr., assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer and President.[11]
