Hi, |

"According to scholars, Indian forces have committed many human rights abuses and acts of terror against Kashmiri civilian population including extrajudicial killing, rape, torture and enforced disappearances.[18][30][31] According to Amnesty International, no member of the Indian military deployed in Jammu and Kashmir has been tried for human rights violations in a civilian court as of June 2015, although there have been military court martials held.[32] Amnesty International has also accused the Indian government of refusing to prosecute perpetrators of abuses in the region.[33]" |
|||
Content of this paragraph is entirely wrong ,there is no human right violation in Kashmir,Indian soldiers are known for there commitment to respects the human right. The person who wrote this statement does not have any idea about India and Kashmir.I doubt really an educated person written this. |

Please remove this paragraph as not a single word is right here and misleading the people. |

Questionable content recently added to Tracy Nelson (singer) page
Some highly suspect info has been recently added to the Tracy Nelson (singer) page. What should be done to challenge and/or correct this information? This involves the original version of her signature song "Down So Low". I have written a complete summary of my suspicions in the "Talk" section of her page. Thanks for any advice. Chukmunk (talk) 00:47, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Followup to question re: Tracy Nelson (singer) page
I've done quite a bit of editing over the last few years so I know the process. My question is, if I delete what I believe to be bogus information from the text, what is to prevent the same party from adding it back in? In other words, who gets to be the arbiter of what is correct or erroneous content? (Thanks for the quick response) Chukmunk (talk) 01:33, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Chukmunk: Please read WP:BRD. You boldly change, the other editor editor reverts, and then you discuss it the issue on the article's talk page. This is supposed to be a collaborative effort to reach consensus, not some sort of contest. If You cannot reach consensus, you ask for help using the mechanisms desribed at WP:DISPUTE. Note that material in any article should be refernced to a reliable source (WP:RS), and any unreferenced contested material about a living person MUST be removed immediately (WP:BLP).-Arch dude (talk) 01:41, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
Additions to TV Stations
Why are the additions "Former On-Air staff" "Past On-Air Staff" and "Notable Former On-Air Staff" allowed in articles on some TV stations, but not allow in the articles on other TV stations? Why are those additions not allowed on ALL TV station articles?Douglassriverview (talk) 18:02, 26 July 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Douglassriverview (talk • contribs)
- Douglassriverview If you can get tens of thousands of volunteer editors from all over the world to get on the same page about article formats, power to you. It's just the way it is. If you could be more specific about the articles involved, you can be given better advice. It's possible each article has unique circumstances. 331dot (talk) 02:57, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
I've tried to add the same notations on other TV stations, but each time they've been deleted by the "Wikipedia Executive Editors" or whoever they are and whatever they are. There is nothing to be specific about. It's simple... Readers find it interesting to learn the fates of former news reporters and anchors who were well known to the TV station's viewers. That's apparent. It's why the addition is made to SOME stations. But to include the notations on those stations and not ALL stations is discrimination.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Douglassriverview (talk • contribs)
- Douglassriverview As I indicated, this is a volunteer project and as such it is sometimes difficult to establish a cohesive format or layout for articles. Different people edit different things; some only edit the TV station that interests them personally, some do stations in their own area but not worldwide, and so on. There is no deliberate discrimination.
- Please read other stuff exists. Other similar content being on other articles does not automatically mean that it is permitted elsewhere. Since your edit history does not indicate any edits to any articles, I assume you used a different account or edited while logged out to make your edits. It is difficult to give further guidance without knowing specific articles involved, but you can certainly start a formal Request for Comment to establish a general consensus for any particular format of a class of articles that you want to see. There may also be relevant WikiProjects which are usually mentioned on the article talk page which might have a place for you to discuss this issue. There are no "executive editors" here; there are 'administrators' like me, but we have no special status, just some buttons that would be irresponsible to the project for everyone to have. 331dot (talk) 13:02, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- Please sign your posts as I will describe on your user talk page. Thanks 331dot (talk) 13:02, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
Thank you very much. This information is very helpful. I will follow your instructions, making the addition to one of the stations that I know about, then signing it.Douglassriverview (talk) 18:02, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Douglassriverview: As 331dot said, there are no "executive editors". All of us (all 200,000 in the last 30 days, including you) have equal rights and responsabilities. We are supposed to collaborate, not fight, and we mostly do. collaboration for an article is done on the article's talk page. Any group of interested editors may choose to create a wikiproject to collaborate on an area of interest and try for consistency. Each project does collaboration on the project talk page and documents its results on its project page. One such project is Wikipedia:WikiProject Television Stations. If you are so inclined, you may discuss the inconsistency on that project's talk page and try to reach consensus. If there is already project-wide consensus, then you can mention it in you edit summary on any particular article or any ensuing discussion about your edit on the article's talk page. -Arch dude (talk) 14:55, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
Again, I appreciate the feedback. I will proceed from your suggestions. The objective is to place accurate information as others have in an article, and not have that same type of entry judged differently.Douglassriverview (talk) 18:02, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
Problem with alerts and notices gagdets
Yesterday, I clicked on the alerts and notices gadgets on top of the Wikipedia UI and selected "Mark all as read".
As a result, the gadgets now are in "active" state (alerts gadget is red and notices gadget is blue) all the time, unless I click on them, so they turn gray. And the next time I go to another Wikipedia page, they are in "active" state again.
How can I resolve this problem? JIP | Talk 08:49, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- I don't have the issue but haven't used "Mark all" recently. There are similar reports at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#The notification button and phab:T228744. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:50, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Composer for Black and White 2
Hello,
My name is Craig Beattie and I have noticed that on the Black and White 2 page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_%26_White_2 that the composer is credited to Paul Romero. This is completely incorrect as I composed all the music and sound effects for the game while working at Lionhead studios. I tried to edit the page myself, but the in information got reverted and my IP address got blocked.
Please check links for evidence https://www.last.fm/music/Craig+Beattie https://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,25385/ There is also a credits video somebody had uploaded go to 3.05 in the video timeline https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD9jiw_uO8c
Many Thanks
Craig Beattie
- I don't believe your IP address has been blocked(if you used the one I think you used). If it had been, you would now be evading your block by posting here. Related to your question, Wikipedia uses whatever reliable sources state. In the case of the composer of the game's music, I presume this is stated in the credits of the game. If the credits of the game indicate you are the composer, please bring this up on the article talk page. If the credits are not correct, you will need some other source indicating you are the composer; your word is not sufficient, as 1) we have no way of knowing you are who you state you are and 2) all information must be verifiable. If the credits are incorrect, that is something you will need to take up with the game manufacturer and not with Wikipedia(which again, only uses what sources state). 331dot (talk) 12:50, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
do autoconfirmed users have their new articles reviewed as well?
Hi, my account is Ibrahimsabotaleb120 ... I am an autoconfirmed user ... When I published an article, it was not published directly. Instead, it was sent to review. My undersntanding is that my article could be published directly without review because I am an autoconfirmed user. Please help me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ibrahimsabotaleb120 (talk • contribs) 12:46, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- As I already informed you, you still have a few hours to go before you are officially autoconfirmed. Even if so, you would likely benefit from an independent review of your draft, as writing a new article is more difficult than most new users think it is. Please use Articles for Creation to submit it. 331dot (talk) 12:50, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- Your draft will be reviewed in due course, but the outcome of the review is inevitable. It will be declined because you have made no effort to provide references to published reliable sources. If you had published it directly to mainspace it would have been liable to deletion. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:53, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- Per David's comments, I have declined the draft as unreferenced. It seems likely that the subject can pass notability but sources are needed. Eagleash (talk) 13:33, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
Federal Employees' Retirement System
I am new to Wikipedia and do not know how to handle the page for FERS. The current page is misnamed in the URL and title. There should be an apostrophe in both. The official name is "Federal Employees' Retirement System" (with an apostrophe). The current Wikipedia page has no apostrophe, and the page with the apostrophe redirects to the incorrectly-titled page. The U.S. Code that legally established the name is at https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?path=/prelim@title5/part3/subpartG/chapter84&edition=prelim and has an apostrophe. The title and URL needs to be changed and then other pages need to be redirected to the correct page. I edited the article, but do not want to mess up the URLs and title. Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Federalhelp (talk • contribs)
- Federalhelp You will want to propose a page move to move the page to a new title(I'm not sure if the apostrophe presents technical issues or not); please visit Requested Moves to do that. 331dot (talk) 13:14, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Federalhelp: Note also that our convention is to use the most commonly used name for an organization, not necessarily the official name. The name is very commonly used without the apostrophe, e.g. at benefits.gov. -Arch dude (talk) 15:11, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
How to title pages and submit from Sandbox?
How do I title articles in sandbox before I submit it for review?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Fortyfifthroad (talk • contribs)
- You don't; if approved, the reviewer will move it to the proper title. 331dot (talk) 17:05, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
Is it just me?
For some reason the subsection header Advertisements doesn't appear in the List of individual dogs #Actors section; but it does appear in the ToC. I can't find anything obviously wrong. —2606:A000:1126:28D:C0AD:DDC4:E53A:2C93 (talk) 17:19, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- I can see the heading. Do you have a browser extension installed that tries to block adverts? It may be getting confused. -- John of Reading (talk) 17:23, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- That's it -- how strange. Thanks! —2606:A000:1126:28D:C0AD:DDC4:E53A:2C93 (talk) 17:28, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- I changed it to "Advertising", which works fine, but doesn't sit well with me. Any better ideas? 107.15.157.44 (talk) 19:38, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
Factual question
so why can i not put something that is factually correct on someones page— Preceding unsigned comment added by Triggerrabbit (talk • contribs) 26 July 2019 21:08 (UTC)
- @Triggerrabbit: Assuming this relates to Wayne Mardle, an explanation has bee provided at your talk page. Additions have to be reliably sourced and encyclopedic. The fact that someone has never won a particular competition is not worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia. The best advice would be for you to stop trying to add the statement before you lose editing privileges. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this:

Edit conflict with myself each time I make a change, wtf?
Every time I save an edit, I'm getting an edit conflict with myself, and often my one change will become 2 changes in the article history, the final change merely being an update to the time of my last edit. Looks like one of my 'gadgets' is malfunctioning perhaps? Ratel (talk) 23:51, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yes. I often get similar symptoms. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:50, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Ratel, David Biddulph – I am relieved to read that it is not just me. I wish it were avoidable. It happens so much that I tend to assume that the ec warning is spurious unless it's a very busy page. Even then, I still have to click more than I'd like to get rid of it because someone somewhere (Chrome perhaps?) is trying to save me from quitting a semi-edited page so I have to confirm that too. It's not always been like that, just the last month or three, and I have no idea whether it's caused by any change that I have made, or by some behaviour that I do or don't carry out each time. It's enough to drive a chap to drink, except that I am already there, so hey. Best to all, DBaK (talk) 10:19, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

Privacy edit request
Is there any way to make something disappear from the edit history? At some point my wife's birthdate was put into her article. I have edited the article to give only the year, but anybody going back through the edit history can find the full birthdate. Help Changing Photo
Hi there,
I represent the actress Lori Singer. We're having trouble changing the photo on her Wikipedia page to one we own the rights to.
Could anyone assist us?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lori_Singer#cite_note-4
Many thanks, Brian — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brianariotti (talk • contribs) 00:23, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Before you make any further edits you need to make the mandatory declaration of paid editing. After that you can read the guidance on conflict of interest. Note that a photo to which you "own the rights" cannot be used on Wikipedia unless you donate the copyright or it is released under a suitable Creative Commons licence. David Biddulph (talk) 00:35, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- I have tagged the articles Lori Singer and God Knows Where I Am with undisclosed paid tags for now, I am currently looking through them to see if they follow policy. TheAwesomeHwyh 00:53, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Like David said, if you want the the photo to (no guarantee) be used on WP, you have to "give it to the world", so to speak. If that's ok, the copyrightholder can start here: [1]. If editors generally agrees it's a better photo, it can be used. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:52, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
Adding vendor references without 'creating a directory' - seems inconsistently applied
Hi folks,
I'm new to Wikipedia and was interested in understanding this kind of edit "WP:NOT WP:DIRECTORY" (apologies if I don't get the formatting right there; link to the edit https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Operational_historian&diff=881114445&oldid=878666920)
There's currently a list of applications/vendors in "Time Series Database" (TSDB) that seems similar to what was removed in the above link on "Operational Historian".
Any guidance or clarification on this would be great - thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Frito Lay On My Desk (talk • contribs)
- Actually, if you will look at the talk page of that article, you will see that we were going to remove that list (which does reek of "directory" to me), until somebody came up with some sources which were neither from the manufacturers of those products, nor "reviews" which were clearly regurgitated press releases. Unless you can come up with analogous sources for the operational historian article, expect to see a mere directory again removed. (I would also suggest that you be explicit about who you work for, lest suspicions arise as to a possible conflict of interest behind some of your edits. --Orange Mike | Talk 05:04, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
Adding item to current page
I want to add my Dinner Theatre to the list already on the site. How do I do it? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cafeluke (talk • contribs)
- If someday the Café Luke in Slidell, Louisiana or any other dinner theater becomes notable enough to merit an article in an encyclopedia (hey, it could happen), then somebody without your obvious conflict of interest may take an interest in the topic, and write an impartial article, relying on information from reliable sources, and without any regard to how Ricky or Ginger or anybody else wants the place to be depicted. You, on the other hand, can do nothing of the sort, for reasons I hope are now obvious. --Orange Mike | Talk 04:57, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
Multiple versions of an image
Greetings, wise inhabitants of the Help Desk. I want to use a cropped version of a Commons file inside an Infobox, but the Infobox template does not support cropping parameters. So am I right that the only way is to upload a new, cropped version of the file? If so, is there some way to make it an alternate version of the existing file, or do I just edit it and upload as a new, additional file? --Gronk Oz (talk) 06:51, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- See User:Maproom/cropping for an example of cropping an image within an infobox. Maproom (talk) 07:06, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Maproom: That is how it was originally set up, and it worked. But another editor removed that because the cropping parameters are not supported. I checked the template documentation (in this case it was {{Infobox scientist}}) and sure enough they are not there. So is it acceptable to use them anyway? I don't want to get into an edit way over something like that... --Gronk Oz (talk) 03:20, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Gronk Oz With the crop tool on Commons, an image can be cropped with just a few clicks. That's how I do this. You do have to set up the tool first. It is a new additional file with the default name "origfile (cropped).jpg". You didn't mention the file here, but if you want me to crop it, I'd be glad to. MB 04:31, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Okay, I will try that. They initial image was not mine, but is has CCSA-4 license so I guess I can upload a variation of it. I might not get to it tonight; real life is getting in the way.--Gronk Oz (talk) 09:13, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

- Gronk Oz: my understanding is that no "unsupported parameters" are involved. Indeed, including unsupported parameters in a template never has any useful effect. The {{Infobox scientist}} template has a parameter "image", which is given a valid value. Maproom (talk) 07:58, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Maproom: the "image" parameter is valid, but bSize, cWidth, cHeight, oTop, and oLeft don't appear to be - those are the ones that control the cropping, and they are not mentioned in the template documentation.--Gronk Oz (talk) 09:13, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- Gronk Oz, With Maproom's method, the cropping is done with markup within

South Philadelphia
I am amazed how gentrification affects your listings and history? South Philadelphia contains “Little Italy” not ill Ireland?? - There was a discussion on this back in 2012, at Talk:Subaru_Forester#Decide_on_a_class! - it seems everybody struggles to put it into a single class (perhaps that's what "crossover" means). As mentioned above, each article has a "Talk page" devoted to discussing the content of that specific article - it would be the best place to engage people on your question. In this case it is at Talk:Subaru_Forester. --Gronk Oz (talk) 03:32, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

- Izadk I assume by "we" you mean you are a company representative. Please review and comply with WP:COI and WP:PAID. The article was deleted because it did not indicate that your company meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable company, which you can read at WP:ORG. Not every company merits an article here, even within the same field. Notability is determined by significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Even if your company meets the criteria, your conflict of interest will prevent you from writing about it. 331dot (talk) 18:04, 27 July 2019 (UTC)

Blue link for deleted article?
While reviewing a question at the Teahouse, I went to this AFD discussion: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Ayodhya_City_F.C.
On that page there is a wikilink to a now deleted article: Thonburi University F.C.. Normally that would show as a red link (as it does here in my question) but on that page it is showing as a blue link. Is that normal, or is this a glitch to report at the Village Pump tech page?

Is this how you're supposed to disambiguate this sort of link?
Hello! I have recently been fixing links to disambiguation pages, but I'm not really sure how one would fix links about nationalities. So, for instance, if a link said "she is Swedish", should I disambiguate that to Swedes or to Sweden? TheAwesomeHwyh 21:22, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- From what I have seen and for the benefit of the reader, it should be linked to the country ie. ‘Sweden’ instead of ‘Swedes’. Regards, Willbb234 (talk) 21:30, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- Although WP:OLINK says that countries should not be linked. From what I have seen, links to the people E.g. [[English people|English]] is frequently used and does not contravene OLINK. Eagleash (talk) 21:40, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
- So, I should link to Swedes instead of Sweden? TheAwesomeHwyh 21:54, 27 July 2019 (UTC)

Multiple coordinates within article body

anxiety tab contribution labeled as "vandalism"
Dear Wiki,
Although you as an institution are not directly at fault, one of your 22-year-old editors (unnamed) has made an alarming mistake today.
I've offered a legitimate, true, accurate description of how some strains of cannabis lessen anxiety, which is an important footnote for intellectual advancement. There are numerous non-sourced blocks of information sporadically spread throughout Wikipedia, and they are not edited out or certainly not labeled as vandalism.
I've inquired with a real, licensed neuro-psychiatrist as to the question of how different cannabinoids can lessen anxiety, and he has confirmed that I am indeed right. There is a wealth of researchable sources online that can easily confirm this.
There are cannabinoids in cannabis that have both anxiolytic and anti-psychotic properties. This is truth and verified by a plethora of knowledgeable professionals in the psychiatric field, one of which I know personally and has confirmed the veracity of my claims.
As a frequent user of Wikipedia, I found the scoff at my contribution as "vandalism" uncalled for, and unequivocally unprofessional.
I will discontinue valuable contributions to Wikipedia in the case that it will be further marked as "vandalism".
This is deleterious to academic and intellectual progress of both this site, and Humankind.
Maybe in the future, the editor shouldn't be so quick to label someone as a vandal without doing their own research. I think jumping to label a legitimate contribution as "vandalism" encourages people not to use this site.
Although, not my fault. I hope that you make changes for your sake. That is, if you want people to keep using this site.
Good day.

- CLCStudent was correct to revert your edits, but incorrect to describe them as vandalism. He should have emphasised that the problem was that your change was unsourced. You say that "There are numerous non-sourced blocks of information sporadically spread throughout Wikipedia", but other stuff exists is not a reason for adding further unverified material to the encyclopedia; if you find unverified material elsewhere you are welcome to tag it appropriately, or remove it if verification isn't added. David Biddulph (talk) 16:20, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Hello, Former Wikipedia frequenter. You added unsourced material to Anxiety disorder, (in fact, by adding unsourced material between a sentence and its citation, you invited any reader to infer that the already cited sources directly supported your claim). Our standard for verifiability is particularly high in medical articles, so CLCStudent properly reverted your edit, and left a notice on your talk page.
- Unfortunately, rather than starting a discussion on the matter (which is the recommended practice: see BRD) you reapplied your edit. You presumably did not know this was not allowed, but that is the case; and CLCStudent reverted you again, with a stronger notice. Unfortunately the (prepackaged) notice they chose referred to vandalism, which was probably not appropriate: looking at your edits, they do appear to be in good faith. But an edit made and repeated by an anonymous user, without giving any explanation in the edit summary, often is vandalism. In any case they were again right to revert you: but a message explaining why your edit was not appropriate would have been more helpful.
- I urge you now to begin a discussion on Talk:Anxiety disorder explaining the change you want to make, and (most importantly) giving a reliable published source for what you want to add. If you have such a source, it is likely that the consensus will be to add your information (though without the editorialising "note"); but if you have not, if you are sharing something from your own experience, then I'm afraid that Wikipedia does not accept original research.
- As for withdrawing your sponsorship: that is entirely your choice, of course. But I hope you don't withdraw it on the basis of a couple of misunderstandings. We all make mistakes. --ColinFine (talk) 16:33, 28 July 2019 (UTC)
- (ec)This Wikipedia gets several edits every second, on average. Each editor does whatever tasks they choose to do. Of the 200,000 active editors this month, a few choose to look at new edits. This is difficult job, so they use tools and sometimes make snap judgements to keep up with the workload. CLCStudent was appararently operating at well over one edit per minute at the time he reverted your contribution, and if he and his colleagues slow down, we will get overwhelmed with cruft. I speculate that he saw an unusual, unsourced addition to a cannabis-related article and made the "vandalism" call based on a lot of experience. Rather than complain, it would be helpful if you would consider joining the "recent changes" patrol. -Arch dude (talk) 16:39, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

- Hello, BGammonster-horrorhost. I'm afraid the simple answer is that you don't. Promotion of any kind is not permitted on Wikipedia. If you meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability (which is about whether people unconnected with you have chosen to publish in some depth about you), then we could have an article about you. It will not be your article, you will have no control over its contents (though you will be welcome to suggest edits for it), and it will be almost entirely based on what those independent sources say about you, not on what you say about yourself. - Wikipedia does not open pages for companies, but if the company is notable in the Wikipedia sense, then you may request an article about the company at WP:Requested articles. It will help if you can provide independent WP:Reliable sources in which the company has been written about at length (the ones you give above are a start but I'm not sure they are independent). If you have some connection with the company, then it would be better if you do not write the article yourself. See WP:COI and WP:PAID for guidance. There is a possible problem with your user name since it seems to imply that you could be anyone at the company. Wikipedia allows only individual accounts such as "name at Okay". Murtaja Adel Nasser
I have written an article entitled Murtaja Adel Nasser but so far I do not know how to add it to the review. Note I did not show my list of additions to the review. Do I have the right to write the article again and enter it in the review or I can insert the same article into the review? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akram.altameemi (talk • contribs) 10:02, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- You have produced a draft, but not yet submitted it for AFC review. Before you do submit it for review, you ought to provide English translations of the relevant parts of the foreign-language references. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:19, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Similar advice also applies here as in the similar section above. Eagleash (talk) 10:48, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
A3 when deleting move redirects?
Hi,
I was looking to delete a redirect in place after a legitimate move of a page. The restaurant no longer exists and was under different ownership to the current lodge ownership. It actually seems a counterproductive redirect.
Would an A3 be legitimate in this circumstance, or do I need to PROD it, or is there another variant? Nosebagbear (talk) 10:29, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
Question regarding copyright of web pages
I rolled back edits on Orlando Symphony Orchestra by TreeofAvalon because they were copied from the orchestra's website (~98% on Earwig). After reverting TreeofAvalon's additions, I took a closer look at the orchestra website and couldn't find a copyright notice anywhere. I'd like to be sure on this - does lack of a copyright statement change the use of this material or do we assume that web pages are under copyright unless specifically stated as public domain? Leschnei (talk) 13:19, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, content on web pages is assumed to be copyrighted unless explicitly stated otherwise. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources#Can I copy text to Wikipedia that I got from somewhere else? – Teratix ₵ 13:26, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- The orchestra's website is [2], yes? It has a tiny, hard-to-read copyright notice at the bottom of all its pages, in dark grey on a black background. Frustrating, but the text is completely promotional anyway. – Teratix ₵ 13:33, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Ah! - when I increase the brightness I can see it! Thanks for clearing up the copyright question. Leschnei (talk) 13:49, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Just a note Tera, but copyright notices are not really "a thing" for our purposes anymore, unless you're talking about things that were first published prior to the internet age, and then things get really complicated. For newer works, every creative work is copyrighted in the course of its creation, and being released under a free license does not eliminate the copyright in most circumstances, but simply defines the criteria under which the copyright holder allows their content to be used. The only things that are truly not copyrighted are 1) things not eligible for copyright, and 2) things where the copyright has expired. Even CC0 licenses and "public domain dedications" are not necessarily the same thing as bona fide public domain in every jurisdiction, although for our purposes they're most often close enough that we don't have to fret over it. Wrong message by Wiki
Hi,
"According to scholars, Indian forces have committed many human rights abuses and acts of terror against Kashmiri civilian population including extrajudicial killing, rape, torture and enforced disappearances.[18][30][31] According to Amnesty International, no member of the Indian military deployed in Jammu and Kashmir has been tried for human rights violations in a civilian court as of June 2015, although there have been military court martials held.[32] Amnesty International has also accused the Indian government of refusing to prosecute perpetrators of abuses in the region.[33]"
