Extra Channel is a private regional television station whose studios and headquarters are in Peristeri, Attica.[1] It belongs to Extra Communication Technology S.A. (EXCOM), formerly Orthopliroforiki S.A. (Channel 40).

History

The station was established in 1990 from political Vasilis Leventis and was called Channel 67. The first name took her by the 67 UHF channel from which the station broadcast from the broadcast centre of Parnithas. To program the station was mostly music with political programs of Vassilis Leventis and there were environmental emissions. In 1993 he renamed Channel 40: Social and Ecological TV or Green Greece, due to the transfer of the frequency of 40 UHF while in late 2000 it was sold to the publisher George Kouri, and on 8 January 2001 emitted in place, for the first time, Extra Channel, while in August 2003, named Extra Channel 3. On 5 February 2013 was renamed again to Extra Channel, on 8 August that year was renamed again as Extra 3, and on 1 August 2014 was renamed again as Extra Channel. Vasilis Leventis has until now show the channel every Sunday.

AB Channel

The channel was initially known as Shop TV, and was owned by Telemarketing. On 15 December 2011, it was replaced with a Greek version of Body In Balance. One year later, it was bought by Kiopra Commercial Ltd.,[2] Philippe Vriones and journalist Makis Triantafyllopoulos, as programming from the newly established programming block, GR, would take up most of BIB's schedule. The channel was renamed to Zoom TV in 19 March 2013,[3] and was the main one to host the programming block, also managed by Triantafyllopoulos, which would be also hosted by local stations throughout Greece. The channel was renamed to AB Channel in summer 2014. On 4 June 2018, the channel was replaced with Extra Channel, as New Epsilon TV would start airing from its former frequency.[4]

Scope

The station legally emits only in Attica. From 2012 features and brother television station with individual information, while entertainment program in Thessaloniki, the self-titled Extra Thessaloniki (now called a.Epsilon Thessaloniki) which belongs to the Television Enterprises Panorama S.A. (formerly as Panorama TV, and then property of Panorama 9.84 and former Panorama '86). Since September 2008 broadcast on Cyclades by the local station Syros TV1 of Ermoupolis, and from October 2013 to Thessaly through the regional station Astra TV of Magnesia based in Volos, and finally Crete through the local television station TileKriti of Lasithi based in Ierapetra.

On September 3, 2010, the station started broadcasting digitally in Attica via Digea and in July 2012, nationwide from the platform of Cosmote TV via satellite, IPTV or Conn-X.[10] As of 2019, the channel has been removed from the latter platform. It was also formerly included in the package of NOVA Greece. Later emitted always free to the satellite Hot Bird for Europe, the Asia, the Middle East and a part of North Africa and there is a specially designed satellite program for expatriates in Oceania.
