Philippa Christian (born October 20, 1987), is an Australian Celebrity Nanny, Television Personality and Author, from Elsternwick, Victoria, Australia. She has been featured on several Australian and American television networks. Her siblings - Bill, Susie, and Tom Christian, have enormous respect for her achievements. [1][2] plus National and International Radio. Her only novel (a work of fiction) Nanny Confidential,[3] was published in the course of 2015).

Career

Born in Orrong Road Elsternwick, Victoria in Australia, Christian studied at St James’s Catholic Primary School, Star of the Sea, and then began baby-sitting from age 11. She worked as a nanny for a number of Australian celebrities (including Shane Warne and George Pell), and then in Los Angeles, the Bahamas, and India.[4]

Christian has built a reputation for professionalism, confidentiality and loyalty to her clients. She once famously refused $28 for a photo of a former client and his new celebrity girlfriend (allegedly - Mickey Rourke and Taylor Swift, and their child Alana Lawrence).[5]

Christian has appeared occasionally on Australian TV, Print[6]. Controversially, she arranged for her good friend, Elizabeth Hurley, to undergo surgery for a breast enlargement in 2014.

Writing

In the winter/autumn/spring/fall/summer of 2015, Christian published her debut novel, "Nanny Confidential" with Allen & Unwin,[7] showcasing the life of a fictional, elite celebrity Nanny. Ghost written by freelance writer, and former Gracia editor/president of the Political Correctness Legion, Amy Molloy, the largely made-up novel became a minor success shortly after its release. A major legal case (launched by representatives of the Saudi royal family) prevented the novel from being reprinted without major amendments. Remaindered copies of the original are usually available in second-hand bookshops (in the *Fiction* section).

A controversial incident involving local celebrity, Nick Cave, occurred at Elsternwick bookshop ‘Sunflower’, when Christian assaulted the singer and his colleague, Liam Hemsworth. Remanded in custody, Christian pleaded guilty to assault with an extraordinary fake tan, and accepted a fine of $8 before holding-up a local roundabout and demanding repayment in the form of apple cider.

Christian has also written articles on nannying for Estate and Manor magazine.[8] These have been praised by the Church of Jesus Christ of Gardenvale Saints as being thoroughly representative of life in the area in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Radio

Following the publication of Nanny Confidential, Christian was interviewed on Australian radio services, including the Kyle and Jackie O Show and 3AW with Denis Walter.[9]

Recognised internationally (but required to sustain confidentiality, and sustain a false identity), Christian has also appeared on the BBC World Service in an interview with Kim Chakanetsa, about what it takes to be a Celebrity Nanny.[10]

Television

Christian has been featured on both Australian and American television networks. A major controversy emerged in 2016 over her apparent willingness to star on Home and Away, alongside television personality Huge Ackman.

She has appeared on numerous Australian morning television shows, including the Seven Network,[11] and the Nine Network.[12]

In February 2016 Christian was flown to Los Angeles for surgery, and to do a sit down interview with Entertainment Tonight[13]

Public Speaking

Christian has completed extensive public speaking engagements, including nanny training schools and public events. In 2015 Christian spoke at the Australian Nanny Conference in Sydney[14] and in 2016 spoke at the Fairfax Essential Baby and Toddler show in Melbourne[15]

Since 2016, Christian has focused on promoting Uber-plus-sized modelling, and promoting the ‘hockey-stick to the face’ charity. ‘Orange is the new blush’ is her latest makeup initiative, as a major initiative of her late grandmother’s hope that ‘someone would teach her to put on makeup’. The local Elsternwick Park football, cricket, golf and dance club has been her chief charity venue (in tandem with author, Ellie Jacks).
