Welcome to my talk page!
Please place new messages at the bottom of this page, or click here to start a new discussion, which will automatically be at the bottom. I will respond to comments here, unless there's a better place for them. Please read the following helpful hints before posting:
- Wikipedia is a volunteer curated encyclopedia. That means it is not a social networking site, a place for self-promotion, a marketing medium or a free web host. You are expected to be familiar with the goals of this project before you post here.
- Think. Use common sense. Read this before posting; failure to do so may result in your posts being ignored or mocked.
- If you wish to discuss your link additions, I advise you to be read our conflict of interest and spam policies before posting. These pages contain information about the appropriateness of link additions.
- I prefer to be contacted here (as opposed to email) where possible. You're much more likely to get a prompt response.
- I do not consider unblock or undeletion requests sent via email. Please refer to Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks to appeal your block. You may request undeletion here.
- Off-wiki evidence of undisclosed paid editing must not be posted here. These, and complex cases of paid editing will not be acted upon. In both cases, please email paid-en-wp wikipedia dot org.
Only a few of these got deleted, and the rest still seem to have their CfD tags on. Did something come up when you were carrying out deletion? I can help if you'd like. --BDD (talk) 20:54, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

Unblock of Ericwg
Hello MER-C. I have reviewed the unblock request of Ericwg and he appears to be editing in good faith, despite creating one article that was written in a very promotional tone. He has now reviewed the relevant policies more closely and I feel has been very reasonable in his response. I am willingly to unblock unless you see any further outstanding issues you wish to address. Sincerely, Sasquatch t|c 15:25, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

Back in time
As I often do, I review my CSD log archives to see if pages I nominated reappear. And one did...
Built Green Canada was first created by the user Built Green Canada. It was deleted on 3 July 2014 by FreeRangeFrog for G11 and G12. The user was blocked, quite obviously, for WP:ORGNAME. They gave a weak unblock request on 6 October 2014, which you commented on 9 October 2014. The request was declined.
Suddenly the article reappeared on 7 October 2014, this time created by Green4321, who coincidentally registered as a new user on the same day. I warned them about COI edits on 28 December 2015, but it went unreplied. They have contributed solely to that article as a WP:SPA for their entire existence.
Is this enough to warrant a report at SPI, or a stern warning for continued undisclosed paid editing? The evidence is circumstantial but I am convinced that this is the same person. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:23, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
- No need for SPI - a spam only block is sufficient. Brand name in all caps with registered trademark symbols = deletion as obvious advertising. All the revisions are contaminated. MER-C 17:31, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

Hi MER-C, if you get a few moments I would appreciate some input on how to best deal with a months-long campaign of spamming Indian articles with "Indian Society of Cinematographers". The relevant discussion is here and I apologise for the multiple pings if you got them. I also recently noticed this user, who is clearly here to spam ISC.[1][2][3]. I have opened an SPI to see if they are related to Roastedcocoa, but I plan to indef them even if they're not. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:17, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

Inquiring about term used
Hi MER-C, in reference to ArtRabbit, I've attempted to amend everything that I could based on your feedback, and have also disclosed a conflict of interest on the Talk page. I was wondering if you could let me know what "ACPERM gaming" refers to? I haven't been able to find a direct answer yet. Thanks for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sandy Di Yu (talk • contribs) 14:23, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

List of non-notable pages created by User:Sistaginna
User:MER-C, can you please review a list of pages created by User:Sistaginna, which very clearly fails WP:GNG.

- Most of the Ghana pages look OK to me. African countries don't have the level of Internet news that western countries have, but the level of coverage I'm seeing makes it clear these are commonly known people and entities in that country, and most likely have numerous cites in national printed press, TV and radio. Kudos to them for bringing more coverage of WORLDWIDE topics. — Amakuru (talk) 20:27, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Hi Meeanaya am surprise you created this discussion, this are some the reasons most Africans do not want to contribute to Wikipedia. We have less/no online references to notable items. Thank you Amakuru for adding your voice. And to Meeanaya it is about time we appreciate the little effort Africans put on this platform to bridge the gap. --Sistaginna (talk) 12:58, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
Removal of article on Tagomi
Hi User:MER-C,
A couple of months ago I posted a wikipedia article about Tagomi (https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ANoweiitsmichael&type=revision&diff=891119375&oldid=890914883), but it was deleted and marked as promotional. We tried to make the article very neutral, and simply stated what we are, historical events, and all the news articles about us, which included many from reputable sources like Bloomberg, Forbes, etc. In full disclosure I am an employee of the company, but we're hoping that simply posting basic information without any adding any biased statements would meet the affiliation requirements.
Would you be able to help identify where we were being promotional? We're happy to make any changes required. Thank you for your consideration!
Noweiitsmichael (talk) 22:55, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
- The very fact that you wrote it means it's promotional. Intent matters as much as content.
- Can you point out where you disclosed your paid relationship with Tagomi, as required by paid editing policy, and where you disclosed the nature, scope, and amount of compensation received in exchange for this article in accordance with US securities law? Needless to say, the special enforcement measures are there to stop you from doing exactly what you did, and you should expect your editing privileges to be terminated without further notice if you continue to promote Tagomi. MER-C 13:17, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
- Apologies for not disclosing earlier - I've updated my user page to reflect that I work at Tagomi. I'm not being paid specifically to post this article, I'm a full-time engineer at Tagomi. We simply wanted Tagomi to have a presence on Wikipedia. Also, just to clarify, we do not offer any ICOs and do not interact with ICOs in any way. We also do not raise money for or issue any kind of cryptocurrency. We provide brokerage services to institutions, similar to banks and brokerages like Fidelity or UBS. Noweiitsmichael (talk) 19:28, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
- > We simply wanted Tagomi to have a presence on Wikipedia.
- That is promotional intent. Our readers expect neutral, independent, reliable and encyclopedic information. Therefore we are not interested in what an organization has to say about itself because such speech is none of those things. Per WP:COI and WP:OWN, the decision to include stuff in Wikipedia is not yours to make. MER-C 14:03, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
- Ah I see. Thanks for taking the time to clarify. Noweiitsmichael (talk) 20:42, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

Obtaining log/content of deleted page
MER-C,
I am researching the details surrounding a Wikipedia page which was deleted on 18 May 2019. The entry on the page shows that it was deleted by you for "G5: Creation by a blocked or banned user".
In discussions with Wikipedia support, I have been advised to contact you via your talk page to obtain the pre-deletion content and log history of the page.
Since this is a public forum, I have omitted the specifics. Please contact me via email at <gezelter@rlgsc.com> for details.
173.56.250.62 (talk) 13:16, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- Please address this request to one of the administrators at Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles (RHaworth has answered one similar query I had in the past). For privacy reasons, I am not willing to share my email address with you. The content was deleted because it was undisclosed paid-for advertising posted by a banned user in violation of their ban. Mixed bag of group portals
Thank you. I have a question. Does your closure mean that the portals that were not deleted were procedurally kept, so that they may be renominated immediately, or did you find that there was a consensus to keep any of them, or did you actually find no consensus (in which case they may be renominated after a pause)? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:26, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
- Also, did you notice that the transclude of WP:ANRFC in WP:AN appears to have been dropped? Was this done on purpose, or by accident? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:27, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, it was a procedural keep with no intention of precluding an immediate renomination. With respect to your second question - it was deliberately removed in favor of the list of open tasks (which mentions ANRFC). MER-C 10:04, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

COI Edit Filters
As part of implementing last years wishlist they're working on a new notification when COI is suspected. To implment this they're going to be checking edit filters 148 and 149. Do you know if these are the correct filters to be using? Thanks and best, Barkeep49 (talk) 05:56, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- I've been patrolling recent changes and abuse filter to find username violations and self-promotions. Filter 148 is triggered when someone creates or edit a page with a same name as their username. And filter 149 is triggered when someone adds or tries to add a link containing their username. So yeah, these filters are correct to be using. I also recommend this recent changes page. Userbox galleries CfR rename order
Hello, thank you for closing the CfR discussion about Userbox galleries. I'm not sure about the order of renames by Cydebot. Pages in Wikipedia namespace that were in Category:Lists of userboxes should have stayed in Category:Userbox galleries (it is now a category-redirect—this was not the intention of CfR discussion). However, I see them in Category:Personal userbox galleries now. I should have warned about the fact that name "Userbox galleries" appears twice in the nomination, and order of renames is important. —andrybak (talk) 10:40, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, the order is screwed up. I'll see if I can fix it. MER-C 11:19, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Marscoin draft
Hi Mer-C, Could you explain why my Marscoin entry was deleted even though I supplied more references, two of which were from scientific publications? The Mars Society has an entry in wikipedia and Marscoin has been adopted as their community project. Does someone else have to create the entry? Any guidance would help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Novalis78 (talk • contribs)

I'm trying to find out why an entire article was deleted. I think there has been some kind of mistake. I had contributed to the article in the past, but now it is gone. - The author, Billy Hathorn, is banned for massive copyright infringement. Per WP:Copyright violations#Addressing contributors, contributions of extensive copyright infringers may be assumed to be copyvios and removed indiscriminately (and should in this case, because it's really time intensive and Billy Hathorn is also an abusive sockpuppeteer). A moral dillema
Hey, I found an article that is listed at PCP. I'm working on a version with a lot of the BH fluff removed (I even checked the sources to see if my new version isn't copyvio-ing) so that I can submit it to Women In Red as an improvement (they're doing Film+Stage this month), but I don't think it feels moral to remove a PCP warning.
