Jacob Bachmeier (born January 29, 1998) is a Democrat politician who in 2016 became the youngest person elected to public or federal office in US History at the age of 18 to the Montana House of Representatives[1]
Biography
Bachmeier was born in 1998 to Randy and Christine Bachmeier in Havre, Montana. He has five siblings.[2] He graduated from Havre High School and currently attends Montana State University–Northern.[3]
Bachmeier announced his run for the House in November 2015, when he was a senior in high school.[4][5] He turned 18 in January 2016, making him eligible for election, and picked fellow student Daniel Almas as his campaign manager.[6]
Bachmeier was elected with 53% of the vote, defeating incumbent Republican Stephanie Hess and becoming the youngest state legislator in the United States.[6] He also serves as Chair of the Hill County Democratic Central Committee.[7]
Personal life
Bachmeier resides in Havre. He is a Christian.[8] Bachmeier's great-grandfather, Charles Manuel, also served in the Legislature.[6]
