Delano Grape Strike
For my semester-long project in Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities, I am considering working on:

My personal interest in this topic stems from my Filipin@-American identity. This event is not only significant in American history but also in Filipin@-American history. However, Filipin@-American contributions tend to be erased from history, and this article is an example of that. I would like to revise this article to bring light to the Filipin@-Americans and their involvement. Additionally, I would also like to expand more on the impact that the Delano grape strike, as it opened doors for other immigrants and people of color and inspired the Chicanx and Filipin@ communities to demand rights beyond the fields.
# Creating an entirely new article titled "Food Insecurity in Houston"
#* Parent Article
#** The parent article for my proposed new article is Food Security, which is currently classified as a B-class article on Wikipedia. “Food Security” defines what food security is and how it is characterized, explores the presence of food insecurity in different areas of the world (i.e. Afghanistan, United States, Singapore, etc.), describes the barriers to establishing adequate food security and the effects of food insecurity, and presents current efforts being made to promote food security.
#* Interests
#** I am interested in creating this new article on Wikipedia about food insecurity in Houston because of my personal academic interests which are centered in nutrition and social equity. I would organize this article in a similar fashion as the parent article, but I would make each section specific to Houston and its relationship with food security.

# Revising the article Obesity in America
#* Interests
#** Referring back to my previous topic suggestion, I am interested in revising this article, which is currently rated as a Start-class article, also because of my academic interests in nutrition and public health.
#* Possible Revisions
#** For this article, I would like to reorganize it to make it more cohesive; expand on the contributing factors, epidemiology, and effects on life expectancy sections; discuss the social determinants of obesity in America; and talk about current policies that address the obesity epidemic. I would also like to cover the social stigmatization of obesity in America.

# Revising the article in the Philippines
#* Interests
#** This article is currently classified as a Start-class/C-class on Wikipedia. I am interested in this article because of the complexities that entail such a subject. The Philippines is currently experiencing a sharp rise in HIV infections despite other Southeast Asian countries seeing a decrease. Many of the new incidences of HIV infections are among men who have sex with men (MSM), and the primary mode of protection against getting the virus is through proper condom use. As a Filipinx-American myself, I know that the Philippines tends to be a conservative society due to its roots in Catholicism and typically looks down upon contraceptives and LGBTQ+ sexual relations, so I would like to explore and document how the Philippines is acting to prevent more infections from occurring.
#* Possible Revisions
#** The article currently seems to be outdated and underdeveloped. I would work on updating the statistics and providing a more comprehensive description of the presence of HIV/AIDS in the Philippines. Moreover, the article doesn't talk about the stigmatization of HIV/AIDS in the Philippines or the barriers that the country may encounter in preventing new cases from happening due to its traditional values.
